Eoana City Guard || Aldaine De'Fraye
[Where:] Fogteeth Mountains [With:] Varys, Mysterious Figure and Gerot [Feeling:] Calm, focused [Outfit:] Cloaked Light Armour [Masked]
[OOC:]
╔═══════════════════

Aldaine had just bore witness to something he neve thought he would in this lifetime. Gerot. Injured. During his time under the assassin’s wing, he had never seen a wound inflicted upon Gerot, not once. Yet, here, he saw Varys send the levitating sword flying into his former Mentor’s arm. At that moment, Gerot dropped his knife, he was unarmed. The time was now, when Gerot was vulnerable. But, Aldaine couldn’t be careless, as he knew Gerot wouldn’t go down without a fight. Readying his longknife, Aldaine charged at Gerot’s back while the mysterious figure approached from the old assassin’s front. It was as though they were so close to ending it all here and now, when suddenly…

    -Click-

Gerot had raised his hand and clicked his fingers. The result was a resounding, near unbearably pressure of pulsing soundwaves, causing ear-piercing ringing as well as violent vibration to travel through Aldaine’s mind and body. What the hell?! What had just happened? Aldaine had just then covered his ears in a desperate attempt to drown out the noise, feeling the protruding blood from inside his ears as the sound and pressure was enough to rupture his eardrums. He grunted and screamed in pain momentarily before managing to stand his ground and raise his gaze at Gerot, a fire now burning in his eyes. “Damn it…Gerot…you b*****d!” he through to himself as he growl aggressively, doing his best to advance forward to the old man. He wouldn’t submit. Not now. There was no way he would just allow himself to be defeated. With that, he struggled forward doing his best to knock himself out of his dazed state and ignore the pain. Gerot..he couldn’t let him escape… However, as he slowly moved, he would cave and drop to one knee letting out a venomous hiss…

    “Grrrgh…Gerot…”

Cyrus Marshall & Sarai Kuuma
~ Fogteeth Mountains ~
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.User Image

Cyrus was glad to see Sarai was okay - ignoring the obvious injuries of course, but as she began to strategise, the Tiger would listen carefully to what she had to say before voicing his own concerns.

"Well, she's already ahead of us," The Tiger Shifter didn't want to play Captain Obvious, but as they'd paused to assist one another, the Black Hooded Soldier had moved on ahead of them, leaving the pair at a disadvantage to the fact she would have gained enough time to find a hiding place ready to launch another assault...

Sarai and Cyrus are not in a good position. The black hooded soldier had time to recover and retreat. She is most likely waiting for them and is prepared to kill them both as soon as they are close enough. A direct assault is suicidal, and splitting up put Sarai in a disadvantage the last time. However, catching her by surprise and closing in is the only way they are going to win.

"If she is hiding, then we have to flush her out. However, neither one of us can be too far away from each other. You are faster than me, so you can close the distance quicker, which means you will most likely be targeted the most. Hopefully she will underestimate me and I can use that opportunity to strike, but she cannot see coming at all."

"I doubt we'll be able to gain the element of surprise again..." His assault from behind had worked the first time, but as the deluge of blades had rained down upon him, he knew that if there was any chance she saw the pair coming, he'd be struck down before he could even lift a claw. "...Unless..." He pondered the thought for a moment before turning to the Lieutenant, "It might take us a little time to get into position, but she'll no doubt be waiting for us to just run into her trap, right?" There was no time to pause for dramatics, so he continued on, "If we can get around the back, then rush her from both sides, perhaps we might actually catch her off guard...?" The move would obviously depend on Sarai's thoughts towards the plan, but if the Tiger could draw the Soldier's gaze for even a moment, it might just the Lieutenant enough time to bring their enemy down for good.

Cyrus's plan is a sound strategy, except it is similar to what Sarai tried before and she won't be able to move as quick as she normally can due to her injuries. The latter she can deal with by toughing it out, but will this fool the soldier? Maybe it can work since it is Cyrus she is working with instead of Kendricks. Cyrus's speed will give him an advantage, and seeing that he is the newest fighter in this battle, the soldier will focus more on him..

"My concern with that plan is that I tried something similar with Kendricks before and it didn't work. I doubt we can fool her again unless we can remain out of sight as we make our move. If we can get behind her without her noticing, then we can approach her from two different sides. My right leg and left shoulder are in pain, but I'll keep it together until we win."

Of course...with her injuries, Sarai wouldn't be able to get into place swiftly enough...which meant they would have to compromise... "I may have an idea - but I'm not sure you'll like it..." It had been a long time since he'd allowed anyone to use him as a means of transport, but if he was able to get the Lieutenant safely into position and then continue on his route past wherever the Soldier was hidden, he might be able to draw their target's fire just long enough to allow Sarai to spot the Soldier and hopefully take them out... "I can drop you off a little ways from the Target, then continue to run onward - drawing their fire just enough for you to spot them and attack from behind?" He knew not how she might take that plan, but would waste little time in taking on his Shifter Form should she agree...

What Cyrus finished telling Sarai is unorthodox. He just told her that he is willing to drop her off into position before he strikes first and brings the soldier out into the open, therefore, giving Sarai the chance to strike. If Sarai is understanding what Cyrus is suggesting, then she will be hitching a ride on his back while he is in his tiger form. Awkwardness is not what she was thinking regarding what he said to her. In a battlefield, there is no room to let odd feelings to get in the way. Whatever that needs to be done for the sake of victory is all that matters, and Sarai believes that this will work so long as the soldier is unaware of what they're doing. At the very least, perhaps seeing Sarai riding on a tiger's back will catch her off guard..

"Lets do it lieutenant. Move in as quick as you can and when the time is right, we make our approach and hopefully end this battle as soon as we can. Surely the others will need our assistance."

With a nod, Cyrus transformed - time was of the essence and even though what they were about to do was definitely not anyone's initial choice, the Tiger knew they needed to do something if they were going to at least catch their opponent off guard.

As soon as Sarai was ready, the Shifter would start off at a swift pace - As agreed, speed was of the essence and Cyrus knew he could do little more than play his part and hope that as the Lieutenant finally made her dismount, their enemy's focus would remain upon the Tiger just long enough for Sarai to deliver the final blow...

Of course, there were always factors that one couldn't account for and as soon as the Tiger - now free of his rider - broke out into what would no doubt become the line of fire, he would suddenly find himself struck with a sound so painful to his ears that it threw him widely off kilter. Stumbling, a stray root swiftly sent the Shifter into a forward roll which, after narrowly avoiding a collision with a nearby tree ended with him landing in a heap on the ground... There was no telling from where it had originated, but as disorientation and a high-pitched throbbing resounded throughout his body and ears, the Black Tiger would flail for a moment before awkwardly trying to right himself and staggering away... To remain in one place would be fatal.

[~ @Sarai / Cyrus ~]

Just as soon as her targets came into sight, the Black Hooded Soldier readied her chakrams, praising her luck as they neared together, she was just about to release a new storm of blades upon them when Sarai suddenly dismounted in the middle of the sprint, splitting up from the Tiger. Ticking her teeth lightly, she focused her attention on the Tiger, however just as she was about to unleash hell a sudden loud explosive sound resounded in the distance. The boom was loud enough to startle her, and she felt a bit of pressure wave past her as she looked in the direction of the sound. A split second later she looked back at her targets, and quickly snapped out of her hesitation. The Tiger had already started moving, and Sarai had moved into the tree line, likely to try and flank her. The Soldier would have to be quick. Watching the Tiger carefully, she didn't aim for where the Tiger was, but where the Tiger would be, creating copies upon copies upon copies of her chakrams and lauching them at the Tigers presumed positions as she ran parallel to him, getting on the move so that Sarai wouldn't be able to sneak up on her.

Bringing his hand down by his side, Gerot's eyes narrowed once more as he watched the effects of his powerful raiment's surprise take hold of all three of his enemies. The Figure was the first to drop, the overwhelming pressure of the soundwave released by Gerot's snap making his body loose and unable to hold itself. Varys and Aldaine managed to remain standing, through Varys' concentration was quickly broken as the contents of his stomach was unable to settle. Lastly, Aldaine, who had stood his ground initially finally succumbed to the effects of the loud permeating soundwave. Just as Aldaine's knee touched down, Gerot suddenly shot forward reaching down and grasping the blade that he dropped earlier while charging at the Mysterious Figure. It had only been a couple seconds, and his body was still being affected, it would likely be a few more seconds before he could even move, never mind effectively defend himself, and a few seconds was more then enough time for Gerot. With his blade brandished, his charging steps swift and precise, it would be the end of the Mysterious Figure, for there was nothing he could do to stop it.

Watching in the distance as his stomach grumbled, Varys happened to look up just as Gerot started to charge forward, his eyes catching the movement toward the Mysterious Figure before going wide as he realized what he was trying to do. "N-no.... N-NOOOOOO!" Varys would start to yell out as he tried to run to them, his body also numb and unresponsive. When he realized that he wouldn't be able to reach them, the seconds counting by slowly as Gerot closed the distance, Varys reached out his hand to try and grasp him in anyway he could. His first instinct was the Figure's weapon, grasping one of the blades he pulled his hand back in an attempt to yank the Mysterious Figure away from Gerot, but this ultimately backfired, as the blade on his back slide out of its scabbard, and launched back through the air off to the side of Varys.

Varys' panicked then, his eyes going wide as Gerot closed in, ten feet, eight... five feet... "NooooOOOOOOOOO!!!! Varys would yell out as he brought his hand forth once more, praying that the supposed Mysterious Figure, his closest colleague and best friend had something on him that he could grasp. In the last seconds, just as Gerot dove forward to strike the Figure down, Varys felt the pull of the chainmail around the torso of the Figure, and he grasped it with all he was worth, and pulled his hand back as hard as he possibly could. "REEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Varys would scream out as he suddenly yanked the Figure back, his body being pulled back like a rag doll by the very chainmail he was wearing just as Gerot's blade swung out.

As the Mysterious Figure was pulled hard and came flying towards him, Varys reached out with another arm, and took hold of the shield he had dropped earlier, launching it directly at Gerot as he slide to a stop after completely missing the Figure. Gerot was able to quickly bring a foot up, stepping up and kicking off of the shield as it launched forward, his reflexes as sharp as ever. The shield pushed him back immensely, launching him back towards Aldaine unwittingly as he kicked off and rolled on the ground. Gerot slide to his feet once more, and the sounds of the panting, grunting and breathing that came from behind him caused him to turn subconsciously. Instinctively, his body moved on its own to the presence felt behind him, and turned with the blade in hand to quickly dispatch them. As he turned however, he now came face to face with Aldaine, and he stopped himself before plunging his blade into his throat. "A-al..." The lightest of breaths would come out of Gerot as he started to speak his name.

As skilled as Aldaine was, or any of them for that matter, there would have been little they could do to stop Gerot's swift blow, and if it was anyone other then Aldaine, they would have likely perished on the spot. But it was Aldaine, and Gerot's eyes went wide for the briefest of moments, revealing not only concern, but seemingly relief that he had stopped himself from finishing the deed. As gruff and calm as Gerot normally was, it would be the first time that Aldaine would see such an expression, and it would last only a moment before Gerot shook his head and quickly backed away. Looking from Aldaine, to the Figure and Varys, and back to Aldaine. Gerot would release a heavy breath as he felt the dribble of blood that had started to flood his wounded arm, the sounds of droplets hitting the ground. Without anymore hesitation, Gerot would suddenly turn and retreat into the tree line, the sounds of his footsteps as he reached the trees suddenly dividing and echoing in different directions, as if there were many running in all directions through the forest. It would only take a few moments more, and Gerot would vanish altogether into the forest, just as the remaining combatants finally started to regain their grasp of themselves and calm their bodies and their nerves.

    "N-no.... N-NOOOOOO!"

Stunned from the effects of that monster of a raiment, he was so disoriented that he hardly registered the immediate danger until he heard Varys’s shouting. Lifting his head up, he could only watch as Gerot moved in toward him. Swiping up the knife he’d dropped before, Gerot’s target was him. Gritting his teeth, he panted hard but pressed past the pain. Reaching up to grab the blade at his back, his eyes went wide as the sword flew out of the scabbard. A moment of panic hit him as he realized that he didn’t have time to reach for and draw the other brilliant blade at his hip.

    "NooooOOOOOOOOO!!!!

There wasn’t any time for hesitation, but with the enemy charging at him head on and with his weakened and lower position, he knew damn well that this was the worst possible situation he could find himself in…

    "REEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Before he could even move to dodge Gerot’s impending attack, he felt a force seemingly pushing and pulling him at the same time. Gods no matter how many times he felt it he’d never get used to it. Slave to the power, his body went rag doll and was thrown off to the side. Landing hard on the ground nearly a dozen yards from where he’d previously been, he rolled as best he could to cushion his fall and lessen the bruising he’d get from it. As he rolled his hood ripped back and a harsh grunt escaped him before he came to a stop, his head hanging as he braced himself up on his forearms.

Brilliant red hair. Dark pointed ears. Features the Mysterious Figure had kept hidden for a reason were now fully on display. Lifting his head, he looked up to see Varys not too far away. Panting a bit, he turned his emerald gaze to Gerot as he seemed to hesitate. He had an open shot on Aldaine, but Gerot hesitated. Gaze narrowing, Reynard growled low in the back of his throat.

Even as he sat up and staggered to his feet, his stance a bit shaky, all he could do was watch as Gerot retreated into the woods, footsteps seemingly echoing in all directions. It was suicide to run after him. In the woods, with the tree cover and that raiment…the assassin would pick them off one by one and that would be the end of it. For now, Gerot had won and his prize was his life.

Looking around him, Rey knew that his cover was blown. If Varys’s shouting of his name hadn’t done it, the unveiling of his hair and ears did. Reaching up, he pulled his face mask down, panting a bit and shaking his head. “Dammit, I thought we’d had him.” He growled as he looked to Varys and extended his hand. “Thanks for saving my a**…that landing was a bit rough though.” Rey said with a smirk, knowing his friend would have a few choice words for him now that they’d been officially reunited. He also knew that Aldaine would likely want to rip him apart, but he’d cross that bridge when he came to it…

As Aldaine’s hearing gradually returned, he would hear Varys screaming as Gerot dashed to finish off the mysterious figure. Looking up, Aldaine’s eyes went wide as Gerot closed in. He did his best to move, but, it was futile, too slow. “No…Gods no please, not again!” his mind would scream as he would try to stand and dash after Gerot before he got to the mysterious figure. However, at that moment, Varys screamed again…a name Aldaine would never have expected to hear…

    “REEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

At that moment…Aldaine felt him self freeze. It was as if the name had caused him to become catatonic…unmoving like a statue. “W-What…? N-No…it…it couldn’t be…” The jaguar’s train of thought didn’t last long until he noticed Gerot kick away Varys shield and, as if on instinct, turned to thrust his knife into Aldaine’s throat. Aldaine felt a surge of energy at this and quickly tried raised his arms in a desperate effort to counteract it but then…he noticed Gerot hesitate…and right then and there…their gazes connected…

It was as though Aldaine felt his anger melt away automatically as he gazed into what he expected to be the cold, remorseless grey eyes of his former mentor. Instead…all he saw was…

    …Concern…

    “A-Al…”

Aldaine heard Gerot start to speak his name. For the first time in his life, Aldaine saw Gerot, the man who trained him in the ways of combat, the man who he had outright feared during his childhood…hesitate… What was it? This e wasn’t like Gerot…why was he looking at Aldaine like that? It was then, after much hesitance, Gerot ran off towards the tree line, his footsteps seemingly echoing in all directions as he disappeared into the shadows… leaving Aldaine, now broken out of his trance of confusion and steadily regaining his ability to stand. However, while strength returned to him, all Aldaine felt like he could do was kneel there and stare to where his old mentor had disappeared… “…Gerot…” he would feel himself say.

Reality would return to him as he would here a familiar voice…a voice that had teased him in the past…a voice that enstilled hope…a voice that had consoled him…as it belonged to the same man who he had thought died trying to protect him… Looking to his left, there he saw it…a set of black ears, brilliant red hair and those distinguishable emerald eyes… Reynard Balgaire was before him…

Standing and regaining his balance and picking up Rey's sword…Aldaine approached slowly, as if he were terrified of what he was seeing. The truth was, he felt a great deal…confusion, joy, rage, sorrow…a myriad of emotions were occurring all at the one time, leaving Aldaine expressionless, save his widened gaze, as well as with a shaking right hand. Stopping a bit of a distance from them he spoke…his voice low and in a sense…disbelieving…

    "R-Reynard…”

After a successful dismount, there is no doubt that the black hooded soldier would target Cyrus. Between him and Sarai, he is the quicker of the two, therefore he will be more heavily targeted than she will. That does not mean that she can drop her guard. She has to approach cautiously and try to catch the guard by surprise, or at least manage to get in close enough for the kill. Then something happened that caught them all off guard. An explosion in the distant made heads turn, including Sarai's. She was most likely thinking the same questions that everyone else was thinking. What happened? Who caused the explosion? Are my comrades in danger? Despite having these thoughts, Sarai had to continue with her assault. The black hooded soldier is making her move, clearly attacking Cyrus first. Sarai needs to be swift, and as soon as she was in a good position, she charged toward the soldier ready to thrust her with her sword. From this point, Sarai had to trust Cyrus will do all he can to help her.

The Tiger had little doubt that the Black Hooded Soldier would launch an assault the moment she laid eyes on him - but rather than thrust her weapons directly down upon her enemy as he passed beneath her, she instead appeared to focus her attention on the path he chose to take, practically forcing him down her own dangerously influenced route and further away from his comrade as he tried to evade the shower of sharp projectiles which threatened to shred him to pieces...

In the back of his mind, he had planned to lead the Soldier in a wide circle so they would eventually find themselves heading towards Sarai's position rather than away... Feeling that the Lieutenant's injuries might make it difficult for her to maintain her pursuit at the speed he was running, it became imperative that the Tiger came up with a plan to somehow break free of this little cat and mouse chase and head back - he just needed to avoid the ever present Chakrams and also make every effort not to run point-blank into a tree...

"The Trees...!" With each turn, the forest thickened with obstacles and with the barrage consistently altering his path from above he knew it would be only too soon before he either faltered, or became cornered and cut to shreds...He needed to act now.

Another dodge and the large spruce became almost unavoidable...but with his rushed plan in mind, Cyrus suddenly put on a burst of speed. Aware that with a determined direction, he risked falling beneath the Soldier's cascade of blades he knew he had to at least try - but how many more scars would prove too much? Now wasn't the time to concern himself with vanity however and so, narrowing his Amber eyes, he charged on, leaping towards the bark and planting all four paws on its surface before twisting on a sixpence and using his back legs to push himself away and back the route he had come...

Watching as the Soldier's Circular Chakrams came within inches of his vision, the Tiger sailed backwards before landing all four feet back on the ground... His body was aching now, but he had to press onward - he just hoped Sarai was ready...

The Tiger was much faster than the Black Hooded Soldier could've guessed, even aiming preemptively, the Tiger was still able to adjust his speed and dodge the chakrams coming towards him. The Black Hooded Soldier was frustrated at first but started to feel the thrill of the hunt, and she continued to chase the Tiger reassessing her aim and adjusting to the Tiger's speed. As she got closer and closer to hitting him, she slid to a stop when he started heading towards a thick brush of trees. Thinking this was it, he wouldn't be able to evade quickly there, she brought her hands up to release another wave, and then her eyes went wide when the Tiger suddenly pounced at a large tree and turned on a dime, charging back in the other direction. A bit flustered, but ready to continue her advance, she brought her hands up once more just before hearing the footsteps over another charging in. Without a thought, the Soldier looked up just as Sarai charged in to strike, and she just barely brought one of her chakrams up to parry the blow. The attack was fierce, however, and her chakram went flying out of her hand as Sarai struck. The Soldier couldn't help but back up at Sarai's advance, and she only had one weapon to defend within close range, something she would remedy immediately. As Sarai continued to attack, the Soldier would once more copy Sarai's sword and use it to defend, blocking and parrying as she got into a close quarters melee fight with Sarai for the first time. The clink and clank of the blades striking each other would echo through the tree line, and the Soldier would regain her bearings before smirking and taking up the offensive once more. As she fought with Sarai, she started to form copies of Sarai's sword in the air high above them, high enough for Sarai not to see them. She formed one after another after another, as if she was setting a trap, and waited patiently while drawing Sarai back to lead her into death's zone.

Breathing even harder now that he had forced the use of his power, Varys buckled over for a moment after Gerot had darted into the woods. Varys knew then and there, they had lost him. Even if they did somehow gather up the strength to pursue him, with raiment like that, there would be no catching up. They would likely end up lost, following the echos of nothingness, or worse yet falling prey to an enemy without even knowing he was there. Varys understood immediately why Aldaine fretted so. Looking up from his hunched over position, Varys calmed his breath as best he could as he looked at Aldaine. The soldier from Trendel that was their goal. At least... Was it truly?

Varys was a bit confused at what he saw. Although it might not have been the best case scenario, the extremist Gerot had every ample chance to finish his mission. Lord De'Fraye had stated that Aldaine's return was ordered 'dead or alive', and with the absence of his master De'Fraye, this was the chance to complete that order. So why did he stop? A man like that does not hesitate. Varys knew from the moment he saw him in the meeting hall those months ago. Looking over at Aldaine, Varys' eyes narrowed once more as he stood and tried to regain his bearings. He was about to step over to Aldaine, questions starting to fill his mind but the familiar voice of Reynard echoed over his thoughts and he was overwhelmed by different emotions altogether.

                                  "Thanks for saving my a**..."

Reynard would say, and Varys would let out the deepest sigh of relief as he reached out and grasped Rey's extended hand. "You keep this up and I'm going to start a tab..." Varys said jokingly, the friendly familiar humor between them shining through even during this terrible failure of a mission. Before Rey could pull back, Varys pulled his friend forward, casting an arm around his shoulder and hugging him. "Thank you... Rey... my friend... for not dying..." Varys would say with a lump in his throat, the guilt that had been eating at him these past months still filling his heart. He didn't know if Rey could hear the pain and regret in his voice, but he did know that Rey had already seemingly forgiven him, he had always been quick to figure things out, but even so. "I didn't have a choice, Rey... I didn't know what else to do..." He said as his eyes started to well up once more. Even though he knew that Rey already understood, Varys couldn't help but feel like he needed to explain, he needed to tell him why, he needed to apologize again and again, and beg for forgiveness. He was about to continue, to apologize for what had happened at the docks, but another voice called out low from the distance, and Varys quickly let go of Rey as Aldaine stood off to the side, in disbelief at what he was seeing.

Varys looked to Aldaine as well, his head nodding subconsciously as he took a step back, letting them have a few words, letting them regain their composure as he tried to regain his own. There would be plenty of time to ask his questions on the road back to Eoana. Sighing lightly, Varys looked over to his scattered weapons and brought a hand up to take hold of them when the sounds of blades clashing in the distance rang through and reached them. The other guards were still fighting, this mission was not over yet. Looking to the two of them, Varys nodded with another sigh, "We should finish this, we can talk when it's done," He said before lifting and bringing both his lance and shield to his arms once more and charging off towards the sounds to help finish the fight, and end the mission.

Rey grinned at Varys’s words. Back during the war, Rey had said the same thing to Varys after he’d saved his best friends a** during a particularly hard fight. It was amusing that his best friend was giving those words back to him now. He’d known that Varys wouldn’t just accept a simple handshake in greeting – no, they were too close for that. Hugging his friend close, Rey pat his back and held tight. The emotion in Varys’s voice told him everything that he’d already known; Varys had had no choice. He’d killed him to save him. Over the last few months the Lord Marshall had feared the worst – that Reynard Balgaire had actually died that day. If it hadn’t been for the love of his life, Diane, finding him in that seaside cave and nursing him back from the brink of death, Rey would have passed on to the great beyond that day.

Holding Varsys close, he nodded. “I know, brother. I don’t blame you and I forgive you.” In truth, there was nothing to forgive. Varys could have killed him outright as ordered, but he’d given Reynard a fighting chance – throwing him off that ship had saved his life. It’d hurt like a b***h and had left more than one very nasty scar as a memento, but he was alive and breathing thanks to Varys’s quick thinking.

‘Don’t. Die.’ Those had been the words Varys had mouthed to him just before he’d thrown him through the window and Reynard had taken them to heart. There was so much to say and explain, but as Reynard released his tight hold on his best friend, another voice reached his ears; Aldaine’s. Looking toward the jaguar shifter he sighed a little. “There is much to say Varys…and we will go through it all, I promise.” Reynard said as Varys stepped back to give him and Aldaine a moment.

Stepping forward, Rey knew that Aldaine would have many questions and a hell of a lot to say to him about everything. Sadly, there was still fighting going on and until everyone was safe, they didn’t have time to hug and punch it out. However, they did have time for one very important moment.

“Aldaine…” Stepping forward, Reynard reached down to unbuckle the sword sheath on his hip, taking the blade in hand, he gave the shifter a small smile. “I believe that this very lovely blade belongs to you…” He said, holding Radiance out for him to take. “I’m sorry I kept her for so long…”

Aldaine simply watched Varys and Rey speak nonchalantly, as if the attack on the city had not happened, as if the last four months were merely a dream. What was this? What was going on? How could Reynard be alive? Who else knew? Did anyone else know? If that were the case, why in hell had no one told Aldaine?! However, the jaguar found himself shaking his head at all the burning questions in his mind as Reynard approached him and offer him...Radiance...a sword Aldaine thought lost to him. Looking up at Rey, then down at the sword in his own hand, Aldaine wiped the blood off and made the exchange between them.

Aldaine felt a brief warmth at the fact of having Radiance, the sword of his departed love back at his side. However, such a feeling would soon dissipate as he met Reynard's gaze, his own darkened and expressionless. He spoke quietly before following the Lord Marshal and his former Captain, "We'll discuss this later. Let's go."

Rey hadn’t expected a warm welcome but hell, he’d expected something. Sighing just a bit, he took his blade back from Aldaine and sheathed it at his back. Nodding a bit, he moved to scoop up his other blade – the one that Varys had used to fight Gerot. Sheathing it at his hip, he grabbed his daggers and moved to follow his best friend. It was clear that Aldaine was upset with him – he had kept his survival a secret after all – but Rey had to wonder, once they dispatched the enemy, would Aldaine show relief at his return or contempt. Only time would tell…

“Lets end this…” He said with a nod. Gripping his daggers and following Varys toward the remaining battle. Rey knew that with all of them charging in the last extremist wouldn’t stand a chance – not unless Gerot showed up to help.

Aldaine followed Reynard and Varys lead. His own dumbfounded confusion at to Reynard's return could take a back seat. Right now, they need to deal with this black hooded soldier. Aldaine drew Shade from his back as they closed in on the final extremist. Aside from the deep-rooted subconscious feelings of relief and happiness at the return of Rey, his former captain, his brother, he felt anger, frustration and utter rage fuel his veins. His enraged golden gaze fixed itself on their target, the remaining extremist, as his thought to himself bitterly, "Time to remove you from the equation, you meaningless parasite!"

The thrust attack was more successful than the last prior surprise attack Sarai did at the start of the battle. Unfortunately, she did not strike her target. The black hooded soldier managed parry to blow with her chakram. It was not a perfect parry since she could not hold on to her weapon. At least Sarai is in close quarters combat with the soldier now. This is more of her comfort zone when it comes to fighting, and she cannot afford to mess up this opportunity. Maybe she won't be anything more than a distraction until Cyrus can come in close and help her finish her off, but at least the soldier will be occupied with two attacks from different directions. Each swing of Sarai's blade clashed with a copy of her blade made by the soldier. She did force Sarai to act defensively eventually, but it will only be a matter of time before Sarai finds a hole in her stance that she can exploit. Little did she know that the soldier is setting up trap consisting of multiple copies of her sword forming above them. For now, she is keeping up with her defenses and watching her opponent closely.

With Sarai having drawn the Soldier's attention back towards her it would be imperative that the Tiger used every chance he could to plan another attack of his own...Slipping through the undergrowth, he shadowed the pair as they fought, keeping out of sight as best he could before waiting for that opportune moment where he could lunge at his opponent and take her down...or at least cause a glancing blow that would give the Lieutenant the upper hand...

As the Black Hooded Soldier began to push Sarai back onto the defensive, Cyrus would pick his moment, lunging from the undergrowth to strike - there was no telling how their enemy would react, but the Tiger didn't doubt for a second that the Soldier had completely forgotten about him...

Slowly but surely, the Black Hooded Soldier would start to gain the upperhand, not for the guards lack in skill, but for the simple advantage that the Soldier's raiment gave her. Sarai was a competent fighter, but seemed to be disadvantaged completely by her raiment. Even so, the Soldier knew she could drop her guard, not just because of Sarai, but because of the Tiger that she knew would be joining the assault any moment. It was why she had started with this makeshift trap, forming tens of hundreds of blades in the air high above them, ready to strike once the moment was right. She was on the verge of reaching the limits of her raiment when she finally felt the very ground tremble under the weight of the Tiger's powerful pounce. The moment she was waiting for, the moment when she could strike at them both at once. Just as Sarai attacked, just as the Tiger pounced, the Soldier brought her hand down fiercely, to direct all of the blades above to rain down upon them like a torrent.

Nothing would have been the sweeter, finally making her move and taking the two out so that she could move on to help the others, but nothing even remotely close to what she had imagined would happen, as nothing would come raining from above. In that moment, it was a stale air and the vision of Sarai's blade swinging forward while the full weight of the large Tiger came upon her, clawing at her back as pushing her into the ground so forcefully that her collarbone shattered and she shoulder snapped as she tumbled to the ground dropping all of the weapons she was holding. Unluckily for her, the Soldier hadn't noticed the three powerful guards charging her way. She didn't notice the aid that quickly came to them, and now she would lay face down in the dirt mangled and broken, under the weight of the Tiger.

In the distance, Varys had charged forward leading both Reynard and Aldaine just close enough to see the fight with Sarai and Cyrus, and from their vantage point they were able to see what Sarai and Cyrus could not, the huge massive cloud of blades forming above them. Just as the Soldier made her move to make it rain, Varys dropped his shield and lance, and brought both of her hands up to take hold of the entire cloud of blades. As if he was literally holding up a massive weight, Varys' immediately started to grunt in pain as his veins popped out of his neck. He had taken hold of hundreds of blades at once, keeping them from falling upon Sarai and Cyrus just as they struck out , giving them the chance they needed to finish the Soldier. As soon as the Soldier his the ground, the copies of Sarai's sword in her hand, as well as the hundreds of blades in the sky all faded and disappeared into thin air, and Varys felt the weight lift off of him before falling to his knees and taking a massive breath as if he had been holding it the entire time. Blood started to fall from his nose, and Varys leaned back lightly while looking to his men. It was obvious that he had overused his raiment, but he was content as the Soldier was now in the paws of the Tiger, and their mission was coming to its end.

Arriving on the scene, Reynard blinked in surprise at what he was witnessing – seemingly hundreds of weapons, in the air. Seeing them poised and ready to fall upon Sarai and Cyrus, he felt his chest clinch in alarm. Varys, ever the resourceful and quick-witted one, immediately went into action, dropping his shield and lance and raising his hands to use his raiment to hold each and every one in the air – preventing them from killing their comrades.

Cyrus didn’t even hesitate. The tiger-shifter pounced on the woman so hard Reynard heard the snap of bone. Seeing that Cyrus and Sarai would be able to handle the last extremist with relative ease now that her raiment had been thwarted, Reynard rushed to Varys’s side kneeling beside him, his hand grasping his shoulder tightly. “Varys! ********> He cursed, reaching into his pockets quickly to grab a cloth to place at his nose. “You’ve overexerted yourself, my friend…a small price to pay for victory, but still dangerous.” He chided. It wasn’t the first time Reynard had to scold his best friend for pushing himself too far. However, to Varys the ends justified the means and Reynard couldn’t argue that his raiment had turned the tide for the skirmish, saving several lives in the expanse of a few seconds.

“Hold this at your nose. Last thing we want is for your pretty clothes to get soiled, Lord Marshall.” He said with a teasing smirk. Varys would need a good long rest to recover but he’d be alright. No doubt they’d all be exhausted the next few days after trekking up into the mountains, battling the extremists and trudging all the way back to the city.

Standing back, Reynard kept his eyes and ears keen – Gerot was still around and it wasn’t a good idea to let one’s guard down when an enemy was still lurking about. Keeping close to Varys, Rey was well aware of Aldaine’s silent presence and the fact that any moment his former colleagues would see him and realize that he was very much alive…
