Y1-> Y2 EXAM STUDENTS ONLY

Welcome to the official Y1 > Y2 EXAM DUNGEON

An exam is necessary to pass from Y1 to Y2 but the exam can either be this self-run dungeon, or you may post for an NPC run exam here if you would prefer NPC interaction! Whichever you choose is up to you, but you must complete at least one in order to grow / post for growth art!

  • This exam can be taken either solo or with a friend or two!
  • This exam is taken entirely at your own pace! You can take a day, a month, a year, whatever you want!
  • Have fun with it! This is meant to be a good opportunity to delve a little into your character!
  • You can only do this exam if you have met the necessary RP requirements. This is not a take-anytime-and-use-later dungeon!
  • You do not need to pass this exam, you just need to complete it (and meet the 800 word count requirement) for it to count!
  • You must still post for your exam here; just note that you are doing the exam dungeon!
  • GMs will still check to make sure you've completed your reqs, so make sure you've got everything ready!

Again, an exam for passing onto the next year is mandatory, but now you have the option of doing a self-run dungeon or requesting an NPC run exam! Best of luck to you all!

THE EXAM: HOUSE OF HORRORS (Y1 > Y2)

Each student ready to move from the first year to the second would find a nice, neatly printed letter taped to their door inviting them to participate in a "Non-Mandatory-But-Highly-Recommended-Anyway Test" (or NMBHRAT for short). A location was provided at the bottom of the note (a section of the grounds, just near the forest), and beneath that the words "Come at anytime."

Upon arrival, you would first notice that a peculiar house has been erected. It's not large enough to overshadow any of the dorms by any means; in fact, it seems rather tiny and shabby in comparison, with the door half stripped of its paint, the windows cracked and smeared with dust, and everything looks as though the merest touch will make it collapse.

At first you wonder if you're in the right place at all, but then you notice a little box sitting just outside of the house. Closer examination would reveal a note, written in a loopy handwriting perhaps familiar to some:

Welcome welcome to the House
Please be quiet as a mouse
The House will tell if you are good
The House will tell if you are bad

Think you're up to face the thing?
If you pass it, all will sing
Do your best, oh fair student
I hope your deaths you do circumvent

THE EXAM
THE HOUSE OF HORRORS

The smell is what gets your attention first; like smoke and old wood, it wafts across the air towards you, enticing you onward, pulling you forward, and you reach the little shabby house and the door half hanging off its hinges, practically begging you to come inside.

A sign posted outside reads "Welcome to the House."

At first, you're mildly concerned but upon knocking stepping inside, you realize that the house in question appears deserted.

Well, that's just creepy. But trying to go backwards only results in failure - the door has locked behind you. You're trapped inside, and now you must figure out how to get through the house in order to continue on your quest.

--------------------------------------------

TO GET THROUGH THE HOUSE:

There are THREE MAJOR ROOMS to the House of Horrors. In order to successfully pass through the House and receive your exam credit, you must navigate through all three rooms until you reach the exit, located after the very last room:

  • Cutthroat Kitchen

To get through the Cutthroat Kitchen, you need 10 steps. Roll 1d4 and add up the amount of steps you take (i.e. you roll a 3, that's 3 steps forward). You must get at least 10 steps. If you go over ten, that's fine, as long as it's at least 10.

Each number of steps rolled has it's own consequence:
1 - You open a door in the kitchen looking for the exit and promptly find yourself dunked by a bucket of icy water. Who left that there?
2 - You trip and fall into a vat of what looks like melted chocolate.
3 - You step in a pile of what looks like sticky glue on the floor and therefore get it stuck on the bottom of your foot/shoe for the rest of your trek through the House.
4 - For some reason, there is an entire bin of tiny bones that you somehow manage to knock over, which, of course, makes a terribly loud sound.

  • Lurking Library

In order to get through the Library, you'll have to find the right combination of books in order to find the combination. Roll 3d6, and follow the guidelines below:

      - 1,1 OR 2,2 as two of the numbers - Looks like you've found some sort of...oops better put that back quickly before a certain cranky Librarian sees you looking at por - (try again)
      - 3,3 OR 4,4 OR 5,5 OR 6,6 as two of the numbers - You pull out a book, and then another, and to your relief you see that the door beyond swings open for you to slip through! (success)
      - 1,2,3 (doesn't have to be in order) - Somehow you get entangled in what looks like a long rope made of paper and spend several moments trying to break your way free, when you notice that in the process you've actually fallen out the door into the next room. How convenient! (success)
      - 6,6,6 Is that a giant spi - quick run for it - (start back in the first room)
      - 1,1,1 You try climbing a bookshelf, rather than pull books trying to find the secret switch, and wind up tumbling over the side rather ungracefully. But hey, look, the...nope, just a shadow (try again)

      - If you didn't roll one of these numbers, it means you didn't find the right combination and have to try again! (reroll)

  • Bloodcurdling Bedroom

The Bloodcurdling Bedroom requires only one thing - picking the lock successfully to get through the door on the other side. Roll 1d100. You must get above a 65 to have successfully picked the lock. If you roll below, then your attempts were unsuccessful and you have to keep on truckin'.

Upon their exit from the house, a certain mischievous Trick or Treater can be found lounging in a tree on the other side, looking as happy as a pig in mud. He smiles down at you, his grin terribly self-satisfied, and tosses you a rolled up piece of parchment. Opening it, you see a certificate of Exam Completion.

"Congratulations," he says brightly, and flashes you a wink. "You're now a Knob."

On route back to her dorm after a nice lunch was when she found it. The note attached to door inviting her to participate in a test. Lute had enough knowledge to know that anything wasn't what it seemed around here. Which meant not mandatory could mean mandatory! It could even mean it wasn't a test...

Starting down at the designated meeting place she frowned a little. Wasn't that near the forest? What else was out there? Not much that she could remember, of course it had been awhile since she had been that way. A second to think it over and she was heading into her room. A minute to get ready, hide a pen in pocket and then she was out the door. Ready for this not a test could be a test maybe not mandatory whatever!

It took only a few minutes to get to the location and when she was there the letter was looked over again. This was, it had to be a mistake right? There was no way this little weird shack was the testing area? Lute stood perplexed for a moment before heading up to the door of the peculiar little house. Just before making it to the door a small box was noticed and picked up. Lute only prayed it held more instruction than the letter.

"That is not helpful.." Lute sighed to herself before placing the box down on the ground. Not helpful but at least it explained that she was suppose to go inside. Heading up the steps to the door the strong odor of smoke caught Lute's attention, filling nostrils as she raised a hand to knock. Nothing. But that just meant she could go on in right, on a wrinkle of nose she pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Lute jumped as the door swung shut and locked behind her, frowning as she tried to settle a racing heart. Well there was no going back so forward it was, on a sigh she was at least grateful it didn't smell as bad now as it first had. "Here goes nothing..." She spoke softly, mostly to ease the anxiety of the quiet house. Part of her excited, the other part panicked as her first few steps lead towards another room.

4/10 Steps

Moving further into the house brought her to what appeared to be a kitchen. It at least smelled like one. Pink orbs floated around the room from object to object looking for a sign of anything she might need to pick up and read.

This of course not really the best idea since it left her unaware of what her feet were doing. As she moved through the kitchen inspecting things at eye level her feet hit something solid. Knocking it over with a loud clatter, startled she jumped back.

Tiny bones now laid scattered all around hooves, it was a mess. What kind of bones were these!? Lute bent to inspect them and as best she could tell they were either sometime of small food or maybe mini bones? Either way, nothing she was interested in!

On a frown a path through the bones was kicked clear and she proceeded.

Lute hadn't second guessed her bone clearing attempt until she was sliding across the floor after hoof connected with a bone. Sailing on a flailing scream right into what she could only hope was a vat of melted chocolate. "No no no!" She screamed, but it was to late, the entirety of her body was now covered in a brown slightly sticky mess.

"This is.." Lute groaned while pushing herself up, stumbling a bit and falling back in for a double dip. She felt like a freaking ice cream cone by the end of it. Dripping a mess onto the kitchen floor and turning red in the face with frustration.

10/10 steps

Of what of the 'chocolate' she could shake off laid in a mess around her in the floor, the rest still dripped down from clothing. Needless to say that after Lute regained her calm and started to advance from the kitchen to another door she had a slipper trail to battle.

Slippery enough to send her into yet another bin of bones. This time though she didn't jump, not even a flinch as the loud noise clattered in echo around the room. She did furiously kick the bones and send them sailing far away now though. This giving her more than enough space to make her way to the door on the other side of the room.

A library? Lute looked around and tilted her head to the side, frowning a little. This wasn't exactly what one would expect to find in a house. But it wasn't the worst thing she could have found!

Lute liked libraries as it was so this place did well to calm her down more. Although she was hesitant to touch anything with how covered her hands had gotten. Taking a moment she looked around to see if there was anything to wipe her hands off with.

It wasn't the best thing but she settled on an old minipets term book. After all minis really had no value to her outside of being cute so why a whole book on them? Sneakily putting the book back she moved on to browse the shelves.

Maybe there was a clue in the spines?

Herbs herb of Halloween, no. Who's spine is it anyways, what? The Little Engine That Got Derailed In A Graveyard And Died, ....that brought back childhood memories. Lute giggled at the books she passed but chose not to pull at any to flip through.

Skinship? Lute had to admit a curious tug at the book just for the title alone. Was it something to do with patchworks? She pulled the book down and started to look through it with wide eyes. Oh my. This wasn't what- A glare was felt on back and caused her to turn, only now noticing the Librarian.

WHAT?!

Lute instantly put the book back, turn red and quickly moved away from the section all together.

Wandering along she regretted not asking the librarian what was going on in here. Though this was an exam right, or not, either way help probably wasn't encouraged. That being said she didn't want to risk failure after being double dunked in gross.

After awhile to wander she came across a section of books that looked out of order. The sheer annoyance of it caused the girl to start pulling them out one by one. As she did the last of them a sudden creak of door opening sounded. Lute turned inspected the door and then promptly sat the books on the floor.

"Well..." Go me she praised herself while heading for what she hoped was an exit. This hadn't been so bad! Not nearly as annoying as the stupid kitchen! Lute never wanted to see another one of those again, at least not until lunch time.

Bloodcurdling Bedroom

Upon exiting the library brought her to a rather interesting bed room. It was hot and smelly, perhaps where that smoke smell was coming from. It made her nose wrinkle as a sleeved hand went up to cover nose. "Ugh.." She sighed and glanced around, there was another door in the room.

Maybe this part was simple then, just walk through before something happened?

Getting to the door proved easy enough, nothing jumped out. No one came and yelled so it seemed fine. She frowned and looked over the lock now noticed on the door. Was there a key? A glance back over the room and Lute sighed.

She really didn't feel like looking for a key! Not when she was so messy and and this was a stupid room! The lock was picked up and shaken violently for a moment. After all the frustration was vented she let it go again to fall back against the door.

"Ok Lute.." She tired to coach herself, moving a hand up to her sticky hair. Fingers produced a bobby pin and then curled around the lock. She had read about this type of thing working for other people, so, so maybe she could pick it?

Lute learned fast that picking a lock would be much easier if not for chocolate rolling down your arm. The slippery lock was released and she turned promptly. Moving to the bed the sheets were torn up and used as a towel to get what chocolate she could off. Taking a slither back to the door the lock and her bobby pin were also cleaned.

"Ok..lets try this again," She spoke to herself if only to hear something aside from the weird and slightly off putting scream now in the room.

"You stupid.." She hissed as her fingers slipped and sent the bobby pin sailing across the floor. This was terrible! How did creeple actually do this! It had to be a trick! Growling she ghoul was back at the door and trying again.
