"Not just cute, tasty too," that glint of hers took on a mischievous look, almost as if she was testing the boundaries of this new girl she'd just ran into. The absolute trusting and, arguably, ditsy nature of this angel really had to be commended to have worn down the naiad's generally suspicious nature towards strangers.

That said, as she shifted the contents in her arms, she didn't make any further motions to move towards the swamp's edge.

That was outside of her territory. Plus, it'd been incredibly long since she'd last ventured to the surface; what worse way to make an impression than to lose your sea-legs beneath ya! How absolutely embarrassing that would be!

An awkward moment passed in silence, her face somewhat contorting into an uncomfortably forced sort of smile.

Now what?

Several moments passed watching the girl with her treasures. What would they put those i-! A jerk in her spine caused her head to pop as the idea hit her head on. "Oh I'll go get something to put that in! Be right back!" Flying up she started off before pausing and looking back, "Please don't leave!" Then turning she flew home excited to collect the items.

Zofie didn't ask any questions as Kara retrieved a large pot and a cutting tool from the kitchen with permission. It was a shame her brother was out working with the alpaca otherwise this would be a great way to get them to meet. Corazon didn't deserve to know, yet. Oh the look on her face when she found out!

Grinning wildly she took off again zooming towards the marsh eager to see her new friend again.

Asrun visibly shirked back at the sudden movement, her arms coming closer to her body and a few of the tubers threatening to fall back to the depths below. She blinked, hardly having the time to comprehend the girl's speech before she was off and away.

Well... okay then...

As Kara's figure disappeared into the distance, Asrun was left with one question.

Now what...?

Slowly looking from side-to-side, the naiad carefully traversed the distance towards the marsh's edge. As would be expected, rather than a defined edge, the water disappeared into the brackish mud below moreso on a gradient. Reeds along the edge helped to hide her red form as the twisted and threw herself out of (most) of the water. From there she flicked her tailfin into the air and held it in the sunlight. Little time was necessary before it began to split into two pairs of long, willowy legs. Asrun made a face at the sensation of her lower half changing; it felt even more disgusting than she'd remembered. It took about all of her willpower to keep from changing her mind and dipping the newly-formed toes back into the water. Soon enough, her thighs had become defined and she could bring her legs in to sit cross-legged.

She looked down and wiggled a toe, her face contorting again; feet were so creepy. Ugh...

Maybe this had been a bad idea after all...

Returning to the water edge with her borrowed pot with a happy hum. This was amazing secret! Dancing her shoulders back side to side as she flew, Kara stared as much into the pot as her way to the marsh contemplating her success.

Well it would only be one if Asrun was stil-- The pot dropped between her own legs as she gasped. She had legs! Pitched way too high, she celebrated this discovery "You can come on land?! Your amazing! Oh you have to meet the family you can stay with us and meet the alpaca!" Only by nearly breaking her own toe did she remember her pot.

Picking up the item she approached her new friend and presented it, the biggest smile on her face, "I brought this!" The ability to swim like that and walk on land, was there anything cooler?! Well besides her brother and the animals, okay Alma and pip were pretty cool too. Chal was as well, now that she thought about it.

Where was she going with that?

The loud sound coming from behind her was startling enough despite the dampening effect of the vegetation below. The high-pitch and quick speech that immediately accompanied it was enough for her to drop most of what was in her arms. Thankfully, due to her being ashore, they just fell on her thighs and were rather easy to retrieve, if now a bit dirty - well dirtier - than they had been.

"Bless Alu's Spring... You just 'bout scared the scales right off..."

Exhaling in a more-than-slightly exasperated way, the naiad glanced away and played with her limp braid. "Well... Yeah... Ain't that normal for naiad...? Though we can't..." her voice trailed off as Kara proceeded to injure herself and then rush over with the pot. As it was presented, Asrun blinked twice before remembering where she was at an continuing as she placed the items - turtle included - into the pot. "...we can't be out for more than a few hours at a time though... Hurts like the Dragnid if'n we do..."

Not that she intended to fully reject her invitation, not after going through the effort of gathering these items and getting her legs about her anyways, Asrun just didn't want the girl getting the wrong idea and forcing her to do something wholly unpleasant.

Maybe for a friend, but they'd just met...

With enough decency to feel somewhat embarrassed, Kara rubbed the back of her head before bowing it, "I am sorry about that." Nervous chuckle wavered as the attempt at laughter worked to chase away the embarrassment. There were more important things at work, like the fact she had legs!!

With a shake she remarked, "I didn't know that! I mean my brother used to have a tail when he was younger it went away as he grew. He has wings and is a little webby." She motioned under her arms, common teasing of her brother aside. "I just though he was unique. Maybe hes like you?" Well, that was more interesting. Was it something with the wings that let him keep his legs all the times?

There wasn't anyone else that was tailed like her, maybe the two had more in common?

This just made her want to introduce them even more! "You have to meet him! If not now then soon, it would be so great! Maybe you'd get along swimmingly?" No shame this day, she laughed at her own pun.

Flopping down on the ground she watched her new friend fill the pot excited to share a small meal while plotting how to get her and her brother to meet.

"Ah..."

By brother she must have been referring again to that kid that seemed to come by so frequently; he'd used to have fins too? Rather than interesting, she thought it was kind of creepy that he had "grown out of them" so to speak. Was that what happened if a naiad was raised in a place without water?

Must have been a painful process if it was. And to think that these guys seemed to cheery about ...

Bless that kid's heart.

Raising her hands in front of her, palms outward, Asrun laughed lightly as she glanced up and away. "Well..." she couldn't look her in the eye, not when she was so bubbly like that. "...how 'bout some other time then... Maybe..."

She wasn't going to comment on the bad pun.

Willfully pretending she didn't hear the maybe, Kara trucked right along, "He doesn't swim much, none of us really do. That could be fun?" Her brother had fins at one time, swimming just seemed like something would have been a part of him if he hadn't be born on the ranch. Maybe it was still there?

Perfect date material!

Another day, accepting that part she looked to the pot and asked, "Is there anything else we need?" Water probably to cook it. Aloiki always purified the water, or they boiled it pure. Probably what this would do? Head tilted she looked to Asrun waiting for her next comment. For the moment, she was still and attentive.

"I dunno..." Asrun continued to look away, giving her non-answer with an awkward pause following the end of it. There was something about the way Kara had spoken that make a slight shiver run up her spine, a feeling that this could, and likely would, end poorly.

Looking down at the pot, the naiad crossed her arms and nodded. "Not much; probably some water and somethin' to heat it with. You can add 'nything else ya want to it as seasonin' or other parts." Nodding again, confirming she was good with her thoughts, she flexed her toes and looked back at the marsh.

"Well..."

She skooted a bit closer to the edge. "...I guess I should be goin' now then. Y'all have fun with that."

Picking up the pot with a smile unfazed, she said, "I'll bring you back treats from the kitchen, things you can't get in the marsh. I am really glad to have met you!" Bowing with a big pot in one's hands is hard but she tried to show her excitement.

Looking back to the marsh, then eyes going back to that twisted forest with a shudder she added, "We are neighbors, if you need anything let us know?" Stepping one step back, guardian of the Ranch waited. She wasn't going until Asrun did not wanting to be rude. Well, ruder.

Scratching her cheek, Asrun's eyes wandered as she gave a non-committal, "Yeah..." to Kara's thanks and offers. Honestly, she wasn't sure she would take her up on any of that in the future; it had been a whim of hers that any of this was currently happening in the first place. Who was she to say what she would or wouldn't feel like doing tomorrow. She let the silence linger a bit awkwardly before looking back to the marsh and moving a bit closer.

Well...

She stuck her toe in.

"Bye."

At that, she moved her legs back into the water and jumped into the reeds, aiming to more-or-less disappear into the dense vegetation and murky waters below. While she had some intention of maintaining a degree of connection with the village and her newfound 'trading partners,' she could have never imagined what future lay ahead for them all...

Once her new friend vanished, Kara turned on her heel and zoomed back home.
In her hands the pot with the new gifts as well as the proof she was not making this up. Just wait until Aloiki heard about this!
