Whatever the Kraken had expected, it had not anticipated the ferocity of the Soquili and familiars alike that fought to save the underwater village. With their combined strength, they had harried it. The god had never felt pain before, not from so many quarters, and even the little pinpricks that they could manage sent its tentacles coiling tighter and tighter. Perhaps it could have destroyed them all, but expending the energy to effect the whole of the coastal waters was taxing. Exhausted from its fight, and with its food putting up such a fuss, the Kraken retreated to the murky depths from which it had sprung.
A great surge burst out from that place below, sending the Soquili back up to the shore, or further out to sea if they were aquatics. Where the many tentacles had once waved, there now lay a single mer Soquili. The creature was trapped once more, although it was unclear of how it had freed itself from such a cage to begin with.
Chaos reigned in the forgotten village, its denizens milling about. Their leaders had surely perished, and they found themselves without protection. While many had feared the Kraken, they had also worshiped it, and found themselves bereft of the clarity its dominion had given their daily lives. Suddenly free, they were lost. Those who had survived grieved their dead, and a great cry of loss went out among the villagers, for they had seen their numbers dwindle nearly by half.
