Miyuki felt relieved when she heard Kaneq's words. She felt like a weight had been lifted from her heart. She had been so torn between her duty as a healer and her emotional ties as a sister. She had feared that Kaneq was not adjusting to life in the eastern mountains. She still feared that part of him was still suffering from his friendship with Zenobia. She had heard him remark several times that Zenobia had treated him like a guard dog but still some part of him must miss the female. It did not seem like they had a romantic relationship or a relationship built on lust but they had formed some kind of companionship. Kaneq seldom talked to anyone in the herd about Zenobia, which worried the healer intuition inside Miyuki. It wasn't healthy that he seldom talked about Zenobia. Miyuki hoped there would come a time when Kaneq felt comfortable enough with her to speak of his past. He would fully heal his emotional wounds when he was able to speak of old wounds. She was glad he was talking about his grandmother . She knew how much it hurt to lose family and loved ones. Her family had lost so much but at least they had each other. Her cousin Xue Fang had been alone for a long time before they had found him. He was not the same stallion he had been before the attack by the fire herd. His loss and being alone for so long had brought a feral aspect to his character. However Xue Fang was a master at hiding the beast that raged inside him. She knew that her sister and her reappearance back into his life had mellowed the feral beast inside of him. He was her heard leader so it was difficult at times to help him settle his emotional pain. Everyone in the herd had nightmares and struggled with the past. However as time went on some wounds were slowly healing. She wanted to help kaneq, Xue Fang and her sisters but she had still not healed her own wounds. However she had to at least try and she couldn't dwell on everybody's pain at least not at once. She was a healer but mental pain was many times harder to deal with then physical pain. Most of the time the body healed faster then the mind or the soul. She knew that she needed to focus first on Kaneq and while he said he was managing well in the herd lands he still needed justice. She knew her sister Kukiko needed to apologize to kaneq and make amends towards him. Miyuki glanced at Xue Fang, as if willing him to pass a verdict that would be both just and right.

While he was relieved that the unrest in the herd had settled itself smoothly he still needed to acknowledge his part. Xue Fang addressed Kaneq, "I need to apologize, I have let you down . If you were not a member of this herd I would offer you a boon, but since you are a member of this herd it is my duty to protect you as your herd leader. Kukiko has made the biggest mistake and I have yet to hear her apologize to you. Kukiko has the next few weeks to both apologize and to make amends. The two of you can discuss between yourself how she will make amends."

Kukiko's ears were pushed back as her mind tumbled filled with emotional turmoil. She was sad, ashamed ,embarrassed and she felt humiliated. She had been avoiding kaneq for weeks and she couldn't yet look in his eyes. When she herd her herd leaders decisions she wanted to go hide herself in a cave. She was not yet ready to talk to kaneq . However she knew she could not hide from her responsibilities especially now that Miyuki had brought forth the issue and her herd leader had made his proclamation. Kukiko eyes gazed out towards the mountains. If she had planned her hunting journey earlier she would be out in the woods far from the herd. She could have waited for emotions to cool before she ended her hunting trip and came back into the eastern mountains. However she had not left earlier on her hunting trip and she was now presented with the problem of how to make amends to Kaneq. Besides she knew she needed to apologize to him at some point. She would rather fight an elemental fire soq, one of those crazy viking bears or even a walker then apologize. Her avoidance of kaneq was cowardly and Kukiko could not stand cowardly behavior. She disliked it when other soq showed coward like tendencies. She absolutely hated it when she acted cowardly and she knew her avoidance of kaneq was the behavior of a coward. She knew she had been wrong to take him in the first place no mater how she justified it by saying she acted like her ancestors the yuki-onna of the past. Kukiko feared little but she did know fear and even though it scared her she needed to apologize. Kukiko stared into kaneq eyes for the first time a part of her noticing that his eyes looked were a brilliant blue like the sky clear of all clouds. She bowed her head," I acted in a dishonorable way. Freedom should never be taken away and I took your choice away. I was impatient and I did not think I could talk to you freely with the pumpkin witch guarding your every move. I should have taken the time to set up camp and waited to you were alone to try to talk to you. It would have been wise of me to slowly tell you the stories of the snow spirits and our ancestors the Yuki-Onna . I could have warned you that a hot environment made those with our blood weak and caused us to age faster. I could have done some many things but I got impatient and I picked a path that was the easiest for me but the hardest and most painful for you. I took away your freedom and your right to choose. If you want I will escort you down the mountains I will no longer bother you. If you want to stay I will seek to make amends since I owe you a favor. I am sorry, "Kukiko said bowing her head low.

Kaneq gazed at Kukiko a frown creasing between his brows as he gazed at her in contemplation. He had never seen her act so broken or heard her speak in a humble manner. He was surprised that she had apologized, he knew she had seldom said the words sorry to any soq. He had never expected to hear her apologize to him and he doubted few in her family had heard her apologize or speak in a humble manner. He hoped she was sincere in her apology but she probably was sincere at least in this moment. Kukiko's personality was a puzzle that Kaneq never seemed able to solve. She was like a personification of wildness, raw and unfettered. He admired her free spirit and while he was not particularly found of Kukiko he did enjoy looking at her. Her wild nature was very beautiful and compelling. However her depressed face was not very appealing especially when he knew it was caused by her actions and behavior towards him and her families disapproval. .
He sighed, "I don't want you to feel like you owe me. I would like to have you as my friend. "
He looked at Kukiko waiting to see if his words would reach her. However her eyes still seemed dull and lifeless. He was not sure she was even listening to him at this point. He was feeling very frustrated by this whole situation and by her behavior. Intellectually part of him knew that her silence was probably due to shock at her sister and cousin's disapproval or that her mind was probably trying to make sense of the situation.. However the emotional side of Kaneq was frankly pissed off. He was tired of this mare's disrespect towards him. While the rest of her family warmly welcomed him, she avoided him and after she was the one that forced him to come here. Kaneq was not used to being angry, he was usually a mellow guy who took life in stride. However being around Kukiko was enough to test the Angeni of patience or the Angeni of saints if one existed. . Kaneq felt all his frustrations start to tumble out and he bit his lips trying to keep the hateful words that were tumble around his mouth sealed. He did not want to let his words fuel more frustrations within the herd . However he was starting to feel like the words needed to come out at some point. He would let Kukiko know about his pain but he would do so when he was not feeling so hot tempered. He needed to vent however he would not do so with so many herd members around. He would tell her of the pain she had caused him, in private or with Miyuki acting as a intermediary . Until then he would find a private sot in the eastern mountains and shot out all the angry words he held inside so that nature would be the witness towards his struggles.

Kukiko was surprised when she heard Kaneq words. She had never expected that he would ask so little of her. She was grateful that he had not asked much from her but at the same time she felt a sense of guilt that he had not asked for much. If she had been given a boon over another soq she wasn't sure what she would ask. She might not accept a boon from another soq as a matter of pride but since she had never been placed in a situation to receive or give a boon she was unsure what the proper protocol was. Kukiko rarely overthought anything, she was more of a reactor then a deep thinker. Usually her heart and emotions won over her head. If a soq or animal was a threat , she killed it . If she wasn't sure over the nature of a traveling soq wandering through the Eastern Mountains, she observed the soq until it left her heard's territory. Unless of course the soq was a fire elemental or her herd deemed the soq dangerous. Then they would try to chase the soq off of the herds land, kill the soq, or help cause a dangerous accident that would harm the soq. There was usually a reason towards these actions and while they required some thought, they were actions that occurred several times throughout the year and were expected. Kukiko did not have to reflect on those actions. However now Kukiko was on unfamiliar ground and she was not emotionally prepared. How was she supposed to act? While she was grateful that Kaneq seemed willing to forgive her, his actions didn't relieve the burden that had been placed on her heart.

Xue Fang stood in the background as Kaneq and Kukiko discussed the boon. He was happy that kaneq asked so little but as herd leader he needed to set clear rules and boundaries. Kaneq was a gentle soul and it wouldn't have occurred to him to ask for much. However Xue Fang was the leader and he could make sure that Kaneq received a fitting boon. The role of leader was difficult and one Xue Fang had never expected. Leader's in the Snow Spirit tribes were generally picked because they had a stronger connection to the ice. Xue Fang physical manifestation of clouds that circled him was an indication in his birth herd that he had a strong bloodline and a special connection to the elements. However leaders had been for the most part females. Few males were born to the herd and a female leader was to expected. A few other herd members had a physical manifestation of elemental power and with the exception of him all other contenders were female. He had not received special lessons from the elders to take the mantle of leadership. Instead he was taught by the old warriors the skill of war . His mind and body were drilled in all military details that the old warriors possessed. It was expected that he would become the leader of the Snow Spirit fighters. Xue Fang still thought it was a dishonor that he was still alive. During the fight with the fire tribe all of Xue Fang fellow warriors had fallen. Yet he still lived, his emotions were tangled. Had he dishonored his fellow warriors by surviving . He had been knocked unconscious in battle the mist that surrounded him had given him cover . When he woke up to the devastation, he had been in shock. Blood was smeared all over the ground and the deceased were covered in burns. The smell of cooked meat permeated the air. A few snow spirits were on their death throws and Xue Fang had not been able to help them. He only had the most basic healing abilities and no unicorns lived near his tribes territory. He did what he could to offer them comfort during their last moments. For some months he trailed after the fire herd. At every opportunity he would kill any fire herd member that strayed to far from the others. The fire herd started referring to as the Ghost. A being that killed without mercy and disappeared into the mist. Few in the fire herd thought Xue was a living being most thought he was the ghost of a fallen snow spirit warrior bent on revenge. In the beginning the fire herd tried to hunt him down but as time went on most of them believed he was no earthly creature. Eventually the Fire Herd grew fearful of the ghost who was killing so many of them, that they left the land they had stolen from the snow spirit tribe. Once the fire herd was far away, Xue Fang left the snow spirit lands and traveled throughout the soq lands until he settled in the Eastern Mountains.

Kukiko shot Xue Fang a startled look. She did not feel like owing anouther soq and part of her felt like she should make amends to Kaneq. However the irrational part of her was screaming out . She held back her violent words of protest and her tears that threatened to fall out . She did not want to cry, crying was a sign of weakness in her eyes. She shot her sister a look, a part of her had felt betrayed by her sister's inference. She knew she had done wrong and her actions had hurt not just kaneq but the whole herd. Her sister acted in a way that was appropriate for her profession and Kukiko knew her sister had done the correct thing. However some emotions were not practical.

Miyuki signed, she felt so torn. It felt like her heart was been ripped to pieces and she felt physically sick and mentally tired. Still a part of her approved of her herd leaders decision. Her sister would not learn from her mistakes if she did not take responsibility for her actions. In many ways Kukiko was the most mature of the sisters. Kukiko was the eldest and she felt a strong burden over protecting her sister and seeing that they were provided for. However Miyuki wondered if Kukiko needed time to develop her own character free from her duty as the elder sister. Was the act of stealing Kaneq, some kind of unconscious act at rebellion?Kukiko had acted as the sister leader after the attack by the fire herd. The sisters had been visiting a allied herd when the attack happened. They were far away from their herd's territory and they did not arrive back home till a month after the attack. All sister had lost loved ones and even Kukiko had been in deep pain she stepped up and took the reins of leadership. She had protected them and driven them across the soq lands because of rumors about one of their kind having been seen travling toward the eastern mountains. Kukiko was strong but now Xue Fang had main responsibility of acting as their protector. Miyuki wondered if the mission of finding Xue Fang was what had kept Kukiko's emotions at bay. Now that Kukiko did not have a mission was Kukiko feeling a great depression. It seemed that she was. Miyuki knew that some individuals experienced a numbing of the emotions during stressful situations. When the individual felt safe they would let their barriers down and the grief could consume them. Miyuki felt that she had left her sister down and had not seen the intense pain residing inside Kukiko until Kukiko had acted out. Even the strongest mountain could fall and Kukiko was used to putting on a mask of strength. Kukiko never liked to appear weak in front of her sisters it was a point of pride for her to always been seen as strong. Miyuki knew her sister had lost someone special during the attack. Someone she had loved deeply, a soq that she let see her vulnerable side. However Kukiko would not share her secrets with Miyuki. Someday Miyuki hoped that Kukiko would find a healer or Shaman to confine in. Better yet would be for Kukiko to gain a friend that lived outside the herds territory or even a lover. Kukiko needed love desperately and not just romantic love but any and all forms of love. She needed to have other soq to be her pillars of strength. Kukiko would always have her sisters but they weren't always enough. When their youngest sister left the herd, she had her ideals of a strong family connection shaken. All the sister and Xue Fang had felt betrayed but Kukiko felt the betrayal the strongest. It was what had toppled the walls Kukiko had used to block out her grief. Their sister's betrayal was the major reason Kukiko had captured Kaneq.

Instead of feeling relieved at Xue Fang words, kaneq felt pressured. He needed to think and for that he needed to be alone. He needed to find a sense of peace, so he could slowly process his feelings . He was surprised at the turn of events. He had voiced his opinion freely but it did not seem to matter. Emotions ran high within the herd. He could see the herd starting to fracture from within. He was not reasonable for the fractures that were forming. After living with the herd for several months he had pieced together that one of the sisters had betrayed herd laws. However herd members hardly talked about the missing female and did not know her name. It was difficult to believe that a female he had never meet had drastically affected his life . A female he did not know the name of was reasonable for making Kukiko emotionally unstable. The unknown female disappearance was what had caused Kukiko to become grief stricken and had put Kukiko into a state of shock. Kukiko was still reasonable for her actions, but he could understand
why she had kidnapped him. Understanding her made him feel less anger towards her. Instead of just seeing her as a villain, he was starting to see her more as a broken doll. Kukiko acted tough to try to hide how vulnerable she was. For all her bite, in both her words and actions she was just trying to survive. She probably felt like the word was crushing her with a continous cycle of grief and responsibilities. Kaneq had deeply grieved when his parents had died due to an accident. However he had his grandmother who was kind and warm of heart. He shared his over his parents death with his grandmother who had listened to his words and who had comforted him. When his grandmother passed away he had been so lost, but her passing had been gradual. Over the years she had gotten weaker and weaker. It had been especially hard for her when the months turned warm. The warm months sapped her of vitality and eventually her body could not cope with the changing of the seasons. Kukiko had lost her herd suddenly and without warning. As the eldest sister, she had guarded and protected her family to the best of her ability and when she was betrayed by one she had sworn to protect, her self identity was shattered. The pain from his grandmothers death was still fresh in his mind. Kaneq knew that grief was a powerful emotions it could cloud any soq's mind and make them do things they wouldn't normally do. He after all sought companionship of any soq that reminded him a bit of his grandmother. That's how he ended up in the questionable care of Zenobia a half mad female that treated him as her pet.

Xue Fang knew that some herd members might disprove of his decision. He had let the situation erupt into chaos. His inexperience in matters of leadership was inexcusable. He needed to step up and act as a true leader should. While he had been torn by different loyalties the situation had not be addressed. Xue Fang knew that the fault was not just because of his eldest cousins unethical decisions but had also been because his denial over his own responsibility. From now on he would wear all aspects of the mantle of herd leader. Instead of viewing the girls firstly as his cousins they would be viewed firstly as herd members. They were his responsibility and burden. It was starting to look like all his energy would be channeled toward being the herd leader. He was beginning to think that it might be best if he didn't take a mate. Xue Fang had grown up in the Snow Spirits Warriors camp it was expected that someday he would be the leader of the warrior fraction of the Snow Spirits. Since his power was strong his blood line would be desired and he would be expected sire at least a couple foals. However the Elder warriors had told him that few in the warrior fraction had Mates. Their family was their fellow fighters. When he first traveled to the Eastern Mountains his heart was too broken to accept love from another. At the time all he felt was hopeless despair. Now he could be honest with himself and admit that he originally traveled the soq lands to die. His kind did not do well with heat and most places in the soq lands were warm all year. He had originally headed towards the mountains because he had heard that a desert was on the other side of the mountain range. He had thought to quickly die in the desert. However once he had arrived in the Mountains he knew he had found his new home. Ice and snow gave him life once more and slowly over time he healed. With the arrival of his cousins he was able to slowly regain his spirit and his will to live.
Now though a small part of him longed for a romantic connection for a companion. He knew that few soq would wish to live in the Eastern Mountains but he thought maybe he would be lucky enough to meet such a female. Now he realized that he would have to give up the dream that he was just beginning to have. Being herd leader had to be his number one responsibility. He would not be able to commit much energy to a relationship but he refused to give up the idea of once having his own offspring. He wanted to have his own foals at some point. It would not be soon, as he needed to smooth out the many problems and negative emotions residing in the herd.

Kukiko turned her head from side to side as she gazed at all the herd members that were present. Does the boon have a time limit, she asked curiously. She strongly hoped it did as Kaneq didn't look like he knew what to ask for and have an unpaid obligation was frustrating . She rather thought it was like a sword hanging over her head, it could drop at any moment or it could be hanging over her head for years. The anxiety and suspense would be difficult for her to tolerate. She was a spirit of action and waiting around for kaneq to make up his mind would slowly kill her. Plus a devious voice in her mind whispered that perhaps if kaneq didn't decide on a boon in a timely manner she would not be responsible. She did not like the way her mind was already whispering to get out of her responsibilities. She was confused about what to do. Her natural instincts were fighting together and her head was racing with different thought. She just wanted to escape to a place where she could forget this whole mess. A week alone traveling the mountains would be wonderful. Time alone would be perfection, she needed solace to make a decision. Usually she would just wonder off into the mountains, but she was on thin ice with her herd leader. This time she would ask permission to leave the herd's territory. Her sister and her cousin would probably feel relieved that she was gone. When tempers ran high it was best to have a degree of separation to let emotions cool down. At least that was what Kukiko was telling herself. She simply needed to go into the mountains to calm her ragging thoughts . She was not going into the mountains because she was retreating from a volatile situation. She was also not wanting to journey deep into the mountains to escape responsibilities and perhaps get out of owing Kaneq a boon. Kukiko sighed loudly and a bit dramatically though she didn't realize the way her sigh sounded like to her sister, cousin, and Kaneq.
The Eastern Snow Spirit herd was a complex herd made of unique individuals. Most of them had grown up with each other so they were deeply familiar with each others personalities. It was hard for them to keep secrets from each other as they were very familiar with each others facial expressions.
Kukiko didn't realize that her sifting emotions were quite viable on her face. Even Kaneq who had not know her long could see that there was a part of her that was cunningly thinking about escaping from the promised boon.
Kukiko did not realize that her feeling were transparent on her face. While her herd members watched her face carefully Kukiko remained oblivious. Currently she was dwelling on her desire to roll around in the snow. It was the first task she charged herself when she was able to wonder into the mountains by herself.

Miyuki looked at her sister. The glint in Kukiko eyes worried her. She loved her sister but she admitted to herself that Kukiko could be quite manipulative. While Kukiko was deeply responsible toward her sisters and toward herd traditions, Miyuki wasn't sure she could trust Kukiko regarding her responsibilities toward Kaneq. Kukiko had handled the whole situation badly. There was something about Kaneq and Kukiko relationship that was just odd. Kukiko just always lost her rational thoughts when Kaneq was concerned. Miyuki pursed her lips in thought. She wanted to dwell on several possible reasons but she needed more time . It would be best if she watched the way Kukiko acted toward Kaneq when Kukiko was less emotional. An idea was starting to sprout in Miyuki thoughts. She wasn't sure if her sister would thank her but it might be time for Kukiko and Kaneq to be left to short out their own problem. Miyuki walked up to Xue Fang who tipped his head so she could whisper in his ear. Her cousin and herd leader did not seem surprised that she wanted to tell him something secretly. They were a similar age and snow spirit foals were brought up differently then other herd. Snow spirits believed it took a herd to raise a foal and foals were raised communally. Perhaps the reason why was many generations when the Yuki Onna blood was running thin, herd members did not birth many foals . At the time the Yuki Onna's decided to allow new blood in and even though their powers thinned new foals started being born. They called the new generation of mixed bloods Snow Spirits. Foals were sacred and protected within the herd. To a foal all elder herd members were called Aunt and Uncle. While all foals of the same generation were referred to as cousins. Xue Fang was related to her distantly by blood but since he was of the same generation he was her cousin. Her parents had also acted as parental types to him and his parents acted as parent types to her and her sisters. Of course it was hard for a foal to make mischief when they had so many parental types around. However it meant that all foals had a warm loving extended family. No one in the snow spirit herd would allow a foal to be mistreated . To be a foal in a snow spirit herd meant you were lucky indeed. The old herd had even adopted a few members by accepting mistreated foals that had asked for refuge or finding abandoned baskets. Though fire soq and pure un-charmed walkers were not allowed within the herd's ranks. As both were not believed to be trust worthy.

As Kukiko whispered to Xue Fang she could see his mouth turn in thought before his eyes started to twinkle. He seemed to be seriously considering her proposition.

Kaneq had a lot to think about but for now he wanted to let the matter end. He wanted to find a isolated spot and reflect and settle his thoughts. The mountains to the west were calling out to him. He had not yet spent time away from the herd. He wondered if he would be granted the freedom to explore the mountain range by himself. It would be wonderful to be alone enjoying the peace the mountains brought. As he was slowly gaining the courage to ask for some leave time Xue Fang suddenly addressed him.

" I believe you might need some time to decide on your boon. I see from the way you keep glancing at the mountains that you need a change of scenery. I will grant you time to explore the mountains. You will find them beautiful but dangerous especially at this time of year. Since you were born on the flat lands you have little knowledge of how to survive the treacherous mountain paths. You will need a guide," Here Xue Fang paused mid speech. Xue Fang turned and looked at Miyuki. He tipped his head in her direction and she smiled brilliantly at Xue Fang.

Kaneq was dazzled at Miyuki's smile. She didn't often smile but her smile was like the sun after a storm. It was a wonder that Miyuki was still single. She was intelligent, honorable, beautiful and most importantly kindhearted. Kaneq couldn't fathom why some mare hadn't yet captured Miyuki heart. Kukiko on the other hoof..well it didn't surprise Kaneq why she was single. She was every bit as beautiful as her younger sister but her heart was not as kind. Miyuki was cultured and ladylike. Kukiko was fierce and feral . She was the time of female that no male ever turned their back on.

While Kaneq was lost in thought brought about by Miyuk's bewitching smile he had not paid attention to Xue Fang next set of words.
"Kukiko has often traveled many of the mountain paths as part of her duty as lead hunter. She will act as your guide during your travels away from the herd. I hope the two of you will come to terms with one another during your journey. "

As Kaneq finally payed attention to Xue Fangs words his mind went into shock. He would have to spend time alone with Kukiko. Sure he was now a bit more understanding of her behavior but he still didn't trust her. So far she had been avoiding him at every opportunity but the journey would throw the two of them together. She could no longer avoid him and perhaps they could talk. Kaneq had a lot he wanted to talk to Kukiko about. What he most wanted was a sincere apology. He did not think her earlier words of apology were fully heartfelt.

Miyuki felt her lips lip up in a smile. She didn't quite realize it but her smiling face and sparkling eyes were a bit cat like in appearance. In other words she appeared to be both contented and a bit smug. Like a contented cat with cream still on it's whiskers. She did feel like she was betraying her eldest sister but sometimes Kukiko needed to be pushed. Miyuki realized that her sister had many emotional scars . Part of the reason Kukiko wore a mask of haughtiness was because she didn't want to show her venerability. Kukiko pain was strong but as a healer Miyuki needed to push Kukiko. Since Kukiko was trying to avoid Kaneq that best thing would be for her to interact with him on a regular basis besides if he was going to be a regular herd member the conflict between the two of them needed to be resolved soon. Maybe she should tag behind them when they went off on their journey. It might be best to watch them for the first few days, just to make sure that they could handle being around each other. Miyuki needed to make a decision about following the two. She was torn but in the end she decided she would not follow the pair. She needed to give some respect to her eldest sister. Her sister might have her faults but she had a strong honorable spirit. Kukiko was currently walking a path of bleakness and her sister needed to unburden her sorrows and once again feel happiness and joy. It was quite painful to watch her once joyful sister retreat behind a persona of coldness. Kukiko was trapped in her bitter memories of her past. They all experienced the same horrible experience but Kukiko never shared her pain. Instead she bottled up her emotions and tried to hide her pain from the world. She seemed to have never left the war and she seemed unable to leave a battlefield mentality. Miyuki wanted to slowly chip away Kukiko defenses. However the task of slowly healing Kukiko heart was to big a burden for Miyuki to handle alone. Miyuki would have to ask all members of the herd to help heal Kukiko emotional wounds. While having a battlefield mentality was necessary during times of war the herd did not want to continue to battle with fire herds. The hatred towards those herds still existed, but they needed to move on learn how to once again live a peaceful existence. Xue Fang had made the fire herds landscape run thick with blood. He also had his own emotional battles but he seemed to be emotionally stable now. The mantle of herd leader had greatly healed his spirit. Miyuki wanted the herd to become more peaceful for both his and Kukiko sake.

Never did Kukiko imagine that she would have to act as a guide to Kaneq. Her longin for a trip into the depths of the mountains was to have some alone time . She wanted the cold and ice to surround her and invigorate her. Instead the mountains would act as the shackles that connected her to kaneq. She would have to protect him and to teach him how to survive on his own. Under her lashes she took a quick glance at him. He appeared stronger and more invigorated now. His was gaining muscle wait clearly the mountains were working magic on him and she felt a bit relived. Was it horrible that seeing his body fill with strength made her fell less guilty. She believed that she trying to justify her actions because she did in fact feel a guilty about her past actions. After all that was the reason she had avoided Kaneq for so long. Looking at him made her heart hurt. His snow leopard marking also reminded her of a dead snow spirit male who had been important to her. In her dreams she could still see the males silhouette but his features had slowly become bleary. She still remembered the beautiful glacier blue eyes he had. He had a low voice that used to send shivers down her spine. He used to be amused by her strong reaction to voice and if she coaxed him he would on rare occasions sing to her. She remembered the first time she saw he silhouetted against the mountains of her birthplace. He was so elegant looking as he watched the clouds move swiftly across the sky. Soon twilight had fallen and Kukiko had realized she had watched the male gaze at the sky for half of the day. Entranced with his elegant figure the hours had seemed so brief. For the next four days she came to the same spot to watch the male. He seemed to know she was there but he didn't acknowledge her presence until the fourth day when he turned around and gazed at her. His lips lifted up slightly as if amused and Kukiko toke that as permission to intrude on his solitude. In the beginning they were sky watching companions and they watched all the wonders of the heavens in silence. Over time they gradually starting speaking a few words to each other now and then. Their existence to each other became more and more important and what started out as friendship soon became love. The pain of losing him in the initial fire herd attack was more then she could handle. Her heart ached all the time and her loneliness consumed her. He had been the other half of her soul and now that he was gone she had become a shadow of what she once was. The first time she had seen Kaneq with his snow Leopard spots she had thought he was a mirage. For a few seconds she had thought she had seen her lover but he walked the soq lands no longer. Instead Kaneq stood there with his snow leopard spots that tugged at her heartstrings and brought forth her past memories.
