(HP: 50 Weapon: Sword (1d6 no modifier) Intermediate Dummy: 40 HP (3 dmg per round))
"You want me to use a what now?" Mal perused the weapon table for a long minute. A crossbow would probably be the best choice; a projectile weapon was what he was used to.
Well, no. A gun was what he was used to. But there were no guns on the table, nothing with moving parts but longbows and crossbows and -- at least a sword was a little like a baton. The grip felt okay in his hand.
"I don't suppose there'll be a gun eventually?"

"At least I know which way the pointy part gets aimed toward." Mal frowned at the dummy. This may not have been the best choice; probably he should have stepped upward, done one of those weaker dummies first... but no choice now.
His first blow was half-hearted, more a flick of his wrist than anything with power behind it.

"Alright," he huffed, and pushed his glasses up higher on his nose. This time he swung from the elbow, got power behind it; a lot of power, to his surprise, as the sword hit the dummy hard enough to really do damage.
The stinging return from the dummy made him made a face and take a step back. He hadn't expected it to feel quite like that.

"Damn." The stinging threw his balance off, ruined the next swing. It came from the wrist again, not the elbow. He was learning, though, and he could feel that he was learning.
The grip felt less okay and more comfortable, but the second sting made him rock back on his heels. It was annoying.

It was going from annoying to infuriating, but Mal wasn't quite there yet. The next flick of his wrist took a little more off of the dummy, another good piece out of it. But not nearly good enough, and now that was irritating, too.

The sting this time was infuriating. It'd hit the edge from irritating and annoying to a full on -- Mal wasn't sure entirely what happened. Not from the elbow but the shoulder this time, and with force of fury behind it.

(Mal: 35 HP Dummy: 0HP)
Mal studied the spread of remains from the dummy and looked at the sword in his hand. It fit comfortably now. Probably another few sessions and it would be just as easy in his hand as his gun was. Probably he would be just as comfortable doing what he had to with it.
But that level of rage-- he could still feel the impact up his arm, up to his elbow, jarring and uncomfortable and -- weirdly nice. It had felt good to hack the dummy to pieces at the end, let the fury go where it wanted.
Scary good.
The kind of good that had given him cases-- in his old life. The life before that tap tap tap-ing, and the booming voice from something that could not, could never, have produced it. There was no way to not believe that. No kind of cynicism or disbelief could last past that booming voice, the stale air in his face from lungs long dead.
Mal took a deep breath, and settled his shoulders as he put the padded sword down on the practice weapon table. "Cheers."
