It had been some time since Jayashri had first discovered the trove of unicorns. Well, mostly unicorns. She had met a bright white stallion in the middle of the night, who'd told her of an attack on the herd, and of his brothers. But unfortunately, he'd also told her about their diminishing bloodline. His brothers were taking non-unicorns for mates, the elders tended not to breed, and she had yet to find someone as interested in healing and fighting as she was. Of course, she hadn't much talked to anyone other than Orion, but it seemed rather odd that they'd be so haphazard about their breeding. Love is love, but she'd always promised her father that she'd find a pure stallion to take as a mate in order to keep the line pure. And how was the princess to disobey her father? She walked quietly through the herd's territory, not looking to do anything in particular. She was mulling over the idea of whether to stay or move on.

Qiyam wandered through the forest, looking for objects to leave at his little altar for the spirits. He tried his best to find something of value at least once a day, but with his new charge it seemed rather difficult. She always had questions that needed answering, plants that needed identifying, and she was rather persistent in her need for knowledge. The stallion sighed. What had he gotten himself into? He still did not tell his brothers about the little flutter mare, as he was afraid of what they would think. Sure, his brother had taken a kalona as a mate, and another had sired foals to a clawed mare, not for love but for politics, but Qiyam was a purist at heart, and it pained him to think that he'd brought a non-unicorn into the herd. Even if they didn't know it yet. While on his rounds, he spotted a mare in the distance. What was this? He squinted. Another unicorn? His tail flicked as he examined her. She must be the one Orion had been talking about. "Uh. Hello there." He wasn't horribly social, but if he didn't at least find out what she was doing in their territory he'd have felt rather guilty.

The sudden voice startled Jay and she froze. Upon collecting her wits, she turned to face the stallion. "Oh! Orion, it's strange to see you during the day!" Upon further inspection, though, it was not the stallion she was accustomed to. She blushed and made her way closer to him. "I'm so sorry, I just thought you were someone else." He certainly looked similar. She wondered if the stallion was a brother to the male she'd met already or one of the elder herd members. "You do look very alike, anyway."

The stallion felt at ease when the mare called him by his brother's name. Yes, this must be her, then. He cleared his throat before speaking again. "Yes, I suppose we do. All of us brothers do, really. Save for some hairstyle and accessory choices. Plus Orion's got the birth mark." He smirked a little. It wasn't often that he made a joke, but he felt that this one was worthy. To him, pointing out the differences between the sextuplets was funny because they had so few. Almost immediately after the smirk appeared, though, it was gone, and Qiyam's normal stern expression returned. "I am Qiyam, the oldest of the brothers. I've heard of you, but I'm afraid I haven't a name."

Jayashri smiled at the stallion's odd sense of humor, not wanting to be rude when he was being so kind so far. "Oh, my apologies again. It's wonderful to meet you, Qiyam. My name is Jayashri, you may call me Jay if you'd prefer, though." She smiled politely and nodded, unsure what to make of the stallion's serious, sullen expression. So far she had only met Orion, but everything about this herd seemed rather out of the ordinary. But then again, it wasn't particularly often that you found an entire herd dedicated to the same cause as yourself. "So what is your place in the herd, if you don't mind me asking? I understand Orion is a night guard, but he hasn't exactly told me of the other roles in play here. I hope you don't see my curiosity as an intrusion."

"I will call you Jayashri, if you don't mind. It seems more proper and more fitting for a lovely lady, as well." He did not smile. To him, this was not flattery, just a fact. As she went on, though, the unicorn had to think. Qiyam hadn't really expected such a question to be asked of him so soon. "Oh. Well, while I certainly do not mind such things being asked, it's still a little hazy as to whom does what around here. For example, one would assume, since I am the eldest of the brothers, that I would be the leader of us. That is how things work in most hierarchies, but not here. It is actually one of the youngest, Vira, who chose to fill that role. I am but a spiritual leader and healer for or group. I hold blessings, keep the spiritual altars well attended to, and heal those who come to us injured or in poor health. Specifically, I specialize in healing herbs. There was nobody around to teach me to use my powers properly as a foal, so they are limited, but I know of many plants with healing properties."

"Of course I don't mind. You are very sweet." She blushed gently. Most of the places she had been, she was not often complimented, as the individuals she was attending to generally did not welcome her at first. It was almost as if she had forgotten that she were comely at all, though she'd always been too humble to see herself as anything particularly special. Jay listened intently to the stallion speak of the herd and his role, and soon became very interested. "Oh? Healing plants? I know of some, but my knowledge on such is very limited. I was taught to use my powers to heal, however." Suddenly, a thought struck the little unicorn. "Please tell me if I'm too bold, but I feel as if we could be of some service to each other. I'd be absolutely content with teaching you how to use your powers more effectively, but do you think that perhaps you could teach me of plants?" It was a fair trade off, but she was unsure if the stallion would see her suggestion as offensive or alarming.

Qiyam furrowed his brow at being called sweet, but instead of informing the mare that he did not intend to be, he allowed her to think whatever she'd feel best about. He wasn't sure what to think of the sudden offer to exchange skill set knowledge. He already had a charge learning from him, and did not know when he would be able to fit this new mare in. Thinking for a few moments, he nodded. "I feel as if this could be beneficial for both of us. But I do already have--" He cut himself off, as nobody else knew about his teaching Eilidh. Should he tell this mare and she leak word to one of his brothers, he felt it could be detrimental to his student's well-being. "I currently have previous commitments, but I feel that if we talk about it further, we can work something out? Boldness and eagerness to learn should not be confused, Miss Jayashri."
