Summer Raaven

It had been exactly three days, six hours, four minutes and twenty three seconds since she had seen her mother. Three days, six hours, four minutes and twenty three seconds of peace. She was certain that Raelle had gone off with Sariel on some kind of adventure - so she wasn't worried - and it was extremely nice not to have a random "Let's fly to the mountain top, Emera!" thrown at her. Especially since Emera did not, in fact, have a set of wings.

It was equally nice to not have random snow storms appear surrounding her with the phantom sounds of bells.

Oh, don't get her wrong. Emera loved her mother - Raelle had found her as a basket and dutifully took her in and she was grateful! - But she was also a lot to handle sometimes. Emera preferred quiet contemplation and walks beside the rivers or still lakes. She preferred introspection and solitude and while Raelle may have done the solitude thing for long enough that it had made her a little antsy (a little?), Emera was not as long lived.

And thankfully she wouldn't be.

The mare stopped her walk in front of her favorite spot beside the lake, looking at the quiet water where fish hadn't quite started to spawn yet. The water was more like glass without the tiny tell-tale ripples and she couldn't help but smile.

This is what she lived for. Right here. Finally alone

A little alone time never hurt anyone, right? Independence was a good thing! Time away from responsibility and life seemed simple enough! However, a lot of alone time well, that was a different story. He couldn't count to the number of minutes and hours he had spent alone now, and he wouldn't help but admit it was starting to get at him. His parents were both pretty independent themselves, as were all of his siblings so 'family time' didn't really exist. Family time - what was that, anyway? The concept had always alluded him. Did it depend family to family, just how much time was spent, or what was done? Oh! Sometimes he wished he had a family that did those kinds of things.

And yet, solitude was his best friend. He had always been a bit of a loner, and liked it that way. Call it a comfort-zone if you wish, but that was who he was, and always probably will be! A loner; doomed to travel the world alone, for all eternity. When he was younger, his parents had always tried to make the children (Ranger and Iona, his siblings...who...well, he hasn't seen in forever now) as close as possible. But they couldn't be more different if they tried. Iona was adventure and bubbly - as girly as a young lady could be. Ranger, a bit more like Westley, preferred the quiet life, but much more shy and reserved than him. Ranger, as far as he could tell, wanted more but was too afraid to go after it.

Or perhaps he had found what he was looking for. Meh. Westley hadn't been able talk to him to learn the truth, so who knows anymore, right? Their older siblings - the ones that their parents had a long time before Westley, had been long gone - all off on their own adventures that life had to offer. So that left Westley - alone. This was who he was, and there was really no changing it.

So complaining about it did nothing. A bird couldn't change it's feathers, could it? Westley couldn't change his life - couldn't change his family.

He'd be lying if he said he didn't wish for a different change of pace, however. Every time the thought came to him, it made him feel even more empty - in the giant world he was just him, and him alone. Ah well, emptiness was who he was!! Traveling endlessly through the lands, he searched for something to help him, but well, if it didn't happen, there was no use crying. This was the life he was given.

Today he slept under a large tree that overlooked an equally large lake, finding the peacefulness of the quiet that the lake brought rather....comforting in his desperate search for who he truly was. Alone or not, quiet was still comfortable. Well, that was until the ground rumbled beneath him, telling him someone else was nearby.

Opening one eye, he braced himself for whomever it was. Maybe they wouldn't bother him.

You're fine! 8D I haven't RPed in about a year so 'scuse my dust haha

Alright. So. Maybe not alone, then. As seafoam eyes traveled across the lake, taking in the peaceful surroundings, they caught on to a bright patch of blue and white that was most assuredly not a grouping of flowers. No, that was one giant lump of horseflesh, likely trying to get their own slice of quiet solitude.

Well, if she didn't get solitude neither did he.

Sorry, Westley, your wish was not her command this afternoon!

"I've never seen you here before," Emera said as she made her way toward the other loner. She canted her head to the side, watching him for a moment. He was one of her favorite shades of blue. Like the sky on a sunny, warm and cloudless day. It wasn't something she was likely to forget. "I came here for solitude, but I suppose that's not going to happen, so we may as well talk." It was a brief moment of boldness. For a shy, quiet mare talking first was generally out of the realm of possibilities.

Like, apparently, the odds of her alone time.

He couldn't tell exactly, from where he was, who or what the figure walking toward him was until she opened her mouth to speak. Groggy from sleep, and unwilling to open his eyes completely just yet, he yawned as she got closer, and gave a little huff in response. So whomever it was, was NOT going to give him some alone time - alright, fine, that's fair. It was a world full of different Soquili with all different kinds of motives and personalities - he couldn't expect everything from everyone. But as she paused in her speech, allowing time for a response from him, Westley quickly realized he was probably being rude just staring at her, eyes half open.

With another yawn, he took in the presence of the mare in front of him before he responded. The first thing he noticed about her were her eyes - they were a pretty shade, very warm and soft, unlike his bright yellow orbs. As pathetic as it probably sounded to him, they reminded him of his family. All of them had such soft eyes.

"The same can be said for you, but I don't stay in the same place for long, so I'm not familiar with much. This your spot? I'm sorry to have intruded," Westley mumbled in one breath, standing up as he did so, to level himself out with the mare. He was a bit small in stature, for a male, so he didn't exactly tower over the mare. In the lull in conversation, his mind wandered to his chosen location of sleep; what had been the initial attraction? The size of the tree they were currently standing under had probably been what convinced him to stay there, but did he honestly go into it thinking he'd be alone? Ah, well too late now to second guess himself....

"Alright, and talking we are," the stallion laughed, noting the fact that she had made her way over to him. If she wanted to talk, she wasn't giving him a whole lot to work with. Best to make the most of this! "Do you normally not get alone time?"

Well, there was the problem. Emera had used up her boldness on crossing over to the stallion and now she stood there mildly awkward in a lull of quiet, unsure what else to say or do. At least until he spoke, and she felt some bit of relief. Good. He was putting in effort. She wasn't going to be doing this one sided thing! Hooray!

"Not so much, no, surprisingly enough," she said with a laugh. "I don't get down from the mountain often - it's a hard climb for one without wings. So I'm always with my mother. Who is always cheerful and doesn't know when to stop talking, and the congregation of others who just don't care to take the journey down."

Emera herself only took the journey down the mountain when she wouldn't have her mother fretting over her the entire time, anyway. Sometimes she was convinced Raelle still saw her as a foal. She supposed to an Angeni she was.

"No need to apologize. The earth cannot truly be owned by anyone. It's usually just unoccupied, and so I was surprised. I'm Emera. And you are...?"

Please don't let another long silence lapse. She wasn't built for that kind of suspense.

Westley shifted his weight as he woke his body up, continuing to stare at the mare without any sort of facial expression giving away his thoughts. He waited, and then, listening to her words, he noted that she had the opposite life of his own. How...peculiar. "At least you've got a home to go back to...," he trailed off, very much aware of the words that slipped out, and very much hoping she didn't inquire further. He couldn't open up to a total stranger, well, for one, because it was stupid, and two, he didn't....know how? All his life, secrecy and solitude were his crutches, and his comfort zones - opening up seemed...difficult? Scary? All of the above? And something he'd never admit out loud, certainly.

Silently, Westley also wondered what life on the mountains would be like; it seemed like the ultimate air of solitude, didn't it, at first glance? Ack, well, he wasn't willing to make that trip, that was for sure - you couldn't just up ad decide to do something different one day, it was too careless.

"....," a pause, as Westley contemplated a response, unaware of the awkwardness that surrounded the pair of them as he paused, staring. He was...just simply...unaccustomed to familial ways of communication, perhaps? Or rather, he just didn't talk that much so lulls in conversations didn't phase him.

And he didn't realize it phased the poor mare standing next to him. Oh well. You can't win everything.

"That is true, I suppose. Maybe it's a sign. I'm Westley, and it's a pleasure, Emera, you seem like good company," a grin had accompanied his last words, and he truly did mean it, as he was fully awake now and taking in the situation. Maybe this was a meeting meant to happen.

SORRY FOR THE WAIT /sobs quietly

Emera frowned briefly. No home to go back to? That sounded...simultaneously awesome and awful, and she wasn't sure which one was going to be in the forefront of her mind. Since he did not elaborate, and seemed rather uncomfortable with the topic, Emera decided to take the graceful way out and not address it at all outside of a small nod. Just to acknowledge if he needed to talk about it, she was willing to listen.

"Perhaps so, Westley," she said, a note of cheer in her voice in an attempt to lighten the mood. "And a pleasure it certainly is. I'm not sure about the quality of my company but it's offered nonetheless. Would you be okay with me sitting?" Since he looked so comfortably nestled on the ground there. "And tell me something about yourself while I'm at it, if it's okay, since you know far more about me already than you probably are interested in!"

Westley shifted his body weight over so to make room for her under the big tree, making sure to give her space so they weren't too close. The last thing he wanted was an awkward situation, and well, judging by his track record, this could very well turn into one. "Uh, of course, make yourself comfortable," he nodded gently.

Something about himself? Him? The most boring, uncomfortable stallion in history? Was she in need of a nap? He chuckled to himself, thinking about all the ways in which he could very well put her to sleep. But...she was so formal, so open when she bumped into him, and it was only polite.... "Something about me? I suppose it's only fair, isn't it? Hmmm...."

"I'm not much for conversation, but I'm sure that's the understatement of the day." Another laugh, but this one full of life and meaning, as he looked at her seriously, warning her she knew not what she was getting herself into. But, neither did he...right? He's never really had a conversation last before, so....all the ways in which this could go were plentiful. Something about himself....hmmm, he pondered, thinking almost immediately about his family; his sister, whom he missed, dearly...his parents, whom he felt neutral toward....all of them, and more. "Let's see; I come from a large family full of love, happiness, and togetherness, yet...I've never felt like I belong?" A sheepish grin, and, "......Too much?"

Oomphf. Yeah. What a way to scare a pretty mare off. Westley frowned, shaking his head as if to say that was not what he meant. It wasn't, he had...not intended for those words to flow. But, they did. "Let's try that again, forget I said that. Oh, I know. I kind of always wished I could fly...if there was anything in this world I could do, it'd be that." The stallion smiled at the thought, kind of lost in the dream as he finished speaking; it would be relaxing, gliding through the sky, above the rest of the world. Plus, wings were a handy thing to have when escaping a less-than-pleasant situation.

What in the...his mind lulled, hoping that whatever words he just spoke were satisfying to the mare next to him, but...what did he just say? His words felt like they came from someplace else. Someplace....of truth? What he said was indeed a fact, he did want to fly, but...had he ever admitted that out loud before? He blinked, staring at Emera in anticipation for her response.

Maybe this talking thing wasn't so bad after all. Or maybe she had this....unnatural and uncanny ability to draw it out of him. He didn't even know her! How was this possible!!
