Coming, coming...

They were so close, he had seem them. Flickering in and out of the shadows, under the cover of darkness. Every now and then he had heard their soft paw steps and the seductive whispers. They knew where he was now, they had finally caught his scent and they were closing in. He didn't have much time left, he knew this now, but had he put enough distance between himself and his family to ensure that they didn't find them? He wasn't sure, and for that reason it was in his best interest to keep moving.

Head bowed and eyes weary, he hadn't slept in more than a day. His paws ached, and legs made their objections known as he pushed them further than was appropriate...but he was doing the right thing, he was sure of it. Even if he could make it just a little further, it would be for the best...

Still, he probably looked a bit of a sorry mess from a distance, someone to be avoided for sure given his bedraggled appearance... But no sleep, and running through various terrain, would do that to anyone.

User ImageThe more he spent away from his family and pride the more he wanted to know. Yet, at the same time he also wanted to be back where they were. For there were some things that just didn't make a lot of sense to him.

But that is the way the world works after all. You can only control so much and the rest is up to fate or divine intervention or whatever it is you believe in.

Viher on the other hand was just walking around in the dark. He couldn't sleep, he thought he had heard something so he had gotten up to walk around and see if perhaps he was just imagining it.

He was about to turn around and head back to where he had decided to rest for the night and realized that there was someone else out there and he appeared to almost glow in the darkness. What a peculiar coloration.

He HAD to check this out.

Paranoia had a way of heightening one's senses - for better or for worse. He had heard Viher, and worse, he could hear him coming closer. The lion's body tensed and he paused midstep, perhaps to consider his next move. On the one hand he could spin round and deal with the approaching being now, thus rendering one spirit as harmless... or, he could make a mistake and hit an innocent, albeit foolish creature, who might have come to inspect what was nearby. Afterall, there were social creatures in this land, and more often than not they came near to have a conversation.

He'd never understood that...

Far too dangerous.

Still, his caution won out on this occasion and he set his paw down, turning his head slowly in the direction of the approaching paw steps. It should have come at no surprise that when he spoke, his tone was less than inviting and filled with suspicion.

"Who goes there?"

As his curiosity grew he stood up and made his way towards the luminescent silhouette he had spotted in the distance. Sure he had seen some uniquely colored species in his travels but nothing quite like what he was seeing this evening. As he approached he heard the lion speak out in a somewhat questioning manner. He slowed down slightly and cleared his throat as he got closer to the male and attempted to give him a reassuring smile.

"My name is Viherminttu. I don't mean any harm." He said trying to let him know he didn't want any trouble, though it appeared to him that he was almost afraid and he almost asked why, just because he wanted to make sure he had nothing to fear as well but he kept his mouth shut. It was impolite to assume things of others and he wasn't going to assume the male was afraid, even if it appeared he was. "Is everything okay?" He asked hoping to lighten the mood a bit or at least find out why he seemed so on edge.

They always said that, they always said they were harmless... But he knew better. He knew better than to believe kind words, or gentle whispers, as genuine as this hybrid might have been, they had always been very good actors. They would creep up on him if he let his guard down, thus he could do nothing more than regard Viher with caution. It was through no fault of the mint leotah's, but there were just some things that the lion was incapable of doing and trusting happened to be one of them.

"You shouldn't be here," he said at last, his lips pressing in to a thin line as he regarded the leotah more closely. He seemed genuine and harmless, but perhaps he would also become an unfortunate victim - collateral damage and all that.

"You'll get hurt, they'll come for you. Only a matter of time, better to escape while you still can."

He paused.

"You won't survive long without your skin."

He was officially a little freaked out by this lion but was doing his best to just roll with it. Perhaps what he was saying was true? Though he could be crazed. Either way he wasn't going to take what he was saying lightly.

"What about you? Shouldn't you be on the move then too?" He said with a hard swallow. At the mention of not surviving long without one's skin he felt his fur go on end. "Whatever they are or who they are don't sound very pleasant from the sounds of it. Perhaps we can travel together? I could keep you safe in my pride if you want?" It was an offer, if the lion told him no he totally understood.

He just believed it was safer in numbers most of the time.

If Viher had never heard crazed laughter before, he was now graced with that opportunity. At his offer to shelter Spectre, the white lion game a ghastly laugh that was soon broken up by coughing. Now if there was one way to guarantee the death of the innocent it was to shelter amount them - they would be crushed under foot, then the best would be made into pretty clothes. He'd seen how the beasts worked and for all Viher's offers, he knew that the hybrid's pride wouldn't stand a chance.

"I always move, I always run," Spectre pointed out, his speech patterns rapid as he pressed his paw to his own nose. "I can always see them," he added. Perhaps Viher could take comfort in the knowledge that since Spectre wasn't moving right this moment, he was safe? Who knew, but the lion seemed to be particularly insistent that he make haste as far away as he could...

If only he was able to give a proper description, then maybe Viher might know what to avoid!

"Keep your friends safe, your family safer," he murmured and narrowed his eyes.

"Keep the white ones hidden, yes... very hidden," he pounced forward and narrowed his eyes. "Change them to black if you can, only way to save them!"

...Well Spectre certainly was a ray of sunshine, Viher really was finding all sorts out here.

While Viher had never met someone who was 'mad' before he was fairly certain this lion was, or had to be. His laugh alone sent chills down his spine and he suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable around the male. Rubbing his left leg with his right paw he started to think of reasons why he might have to leave soon.

"Well, moving is definitely one way to make sure you're never found." He added to the lions chatter. Swallowing as he pounced, shouting about changing white to black, he looked around wishing he wasn't alone. Well, Alone with Spectre. Maybe he needed herbal remedies? He wasn't sure if the male was making up everything or if he had gone mad from being alone or something else entirely.

"Well, if it's not safe then perhaps we should be off. Or perhaps I should be off. You know, so as to keep safe." He figured that sounded reasonable enough.

"Yes," Spectre agreed as he started and shied away from the hybrid again. "Yes!" he added with much more enthusiasm as if to emphases that Viher had the right idea. He should run, he should run very far away and sincerely hope that he was never graced with the presence of a lion like this one again! At least he could now say he had official met someone unequivocally nuts, but that probably wasn't one of the most useful tidbits of information when you were having a discussion with your friends... Or someone new.

"Hide them, hide them well," he added and then, without further explanation, seemed to decided that he needed to move. The peculiar lion had already picked a direction and was padding unsteadily towards it. Where this was going to lead him was anyone guess... But at least he wasn't asking for company on this occasion. Viher would have just loved that!

Suffice it to say that if the green hybrid wanted to escape, now was the ideal time!

This is finished =]

Listening and watching carefully the lion seemed to want to be on the move as well. Giving a look around he stood up. "I wish you safe travels." He said with almost a heavy heart. He felt like the lion wasn't someone he would be seeing again, it was just a hunch really.

As he watched him begin to wander off he took the chance to head off in his own direction as well.
