Coming, coming...
They were so close, he had seem them. Flickering in and out of the shadows, under the cover of darkness. Every now and then he had heard their soft paw steps and the seductive whispers. They knew where he was now, they had finally caught his scent and they were closing in. He didn't have much time left, he knew this now, but had he put enough distance between himself and his family to ensure that they didn't find them? He wasn't sure, and for that reason it was in his best interest to keep moving.
Head bowed and eyes weary, he hadn't slept in more than a day. His paws ached, and legs made their objections known as he pushed them further than was appropriate...but he was doing the right thing, he was sure of it. Even if he could make it just a little further, it would be for the best...
Still, he probably looked a bit of a sorry mess from a distance, someone to be avoided for sure given his bedraggled appearance... But no sleep, and running through various terrain, would do that to anyone.

Paranoia had a way of heightening one's senses - for better or for worse. He had heard Viher, and worse, he could hear him coming closer. The lion's body tensed and he paused midstep, perhaps to consider his next move. On the one hand he could spin round and deal with the approaching being now, thus rendering one spirit as harmless... or, he could make a mistake and hit an innocent, albeit foolish creature, who might have come to inspect what was nearby. Afterall, there were social creatures in this land, and more often than not they came near to have a conversation.
He'd never understood that...
Far too dangerous.
Still, his caution won out on this occasion and he set his paw down, turning his head slowly in the direction of the approaching paw steps. It should have come at no surprise that when he spoke, his tone was less than inviting and filled with suspicion.
"Who goes there?"

They always said that, they always said they were harmless... But he knew better. He knew better than to believe kind words, or gentle whispers, as genuine as this hybrid might have been, they had always been very good actors. They would creep up on him if he let his guard down, thus he could do nothing more than regard Viher with caution. It was through no fault of the mint leotah's, but there were just some things that the lion was incapable of doing and trusting happened to be one of them.
"You shouldn't be here," he said at last, his lips pressing in to a thin line as he regarded the leotah more closely. He seemed genuine and harmless, but perhaps he would also become an unfortunate victim - collateral damage and all that.
"You'll get hurt, they'll come for you. Only a matter of time, better to escape while you still can."
He paused.
"You won't survive long without your skin."

If Viher had never heard crazed laughter before, he was now graced with that opportunity. At his offer to shelter Spectre, the white lion game a ghastly laugh that was soon broken up by coughing. Now if there was one way to guarantee the death of the innocent it was to shelter amount them - they would be crushed under foot, then the best would be made into pretty clothes. He'd seen how the beasts worked and for all Viher's offers, he knew that the hybrid's pride wouldn't stand a chance.
"I always move, I always run," Spectre pointed out, his speech patterns rapid as he pressed his paw to his own nose. "I can always see them," he added. Perhaps Viher could take comfort in the knowledge that since Spectre wasn't moving right this moment, he was safe? Who knew, but the lion seemed to be particularly insistent that he make haste as far away as he could...
If only he was able to give a proper description, then maybe Viher might know what to avoid!
"Keep your friends safe, your family safer," he murmured and narrowed his eyes.
"Keep the white ones hidden, yes... very hidden," he pounced forward and narrowed his eyes. "Change them to black if you can, only way to save them!"
...Well Spectre certainly was a ray of sunshine, Viher really was finding all sorts out here.
