Sandsablaze sucked in a deep lungful of air, lips twitching a little as the strong and tangy scent of salt tickled his nostrils. It had been quite some time since he'd strayed out towards the ocean. Too much time had been spent recently out in the desert areas. Or closer to the mountains while he wondered when his daughter would come and see him.
Ah, the pains of a child growing up. They left the coop and went on their own adventures.
And made their fathers worry themselves silly over them.
Chuckling at himself, Sandy picked up his pace from a leisurely walk to an easy trot. He could hear the ocean now! And the stallion couldn't help the almost foal-like giddiness that tugged at him, making him pick up speed until he was practically cantering towards the damp sand. He slid to a halt right at the waters edge, grinning stupidly as the waves lazily crept up to pool around his hooves.

Not too far from down the beach from the stallion, another soquili was heading towards the beach. But Teagan swam up from the ocean itself, having been exploring along just beyond the ocean's shelf. Nothing exciting had crept up yet, sadly. Well, there was that one crab that had been gimassive.
But Weed had scared it away with his grumbling.
Breaking the waters surface, the mini just floated there, gazing up towards the sky. It was mildly cloudy but she didn't think it would rain anytime soon.
"Heeeey, look, Weed!" She called, hearing sloshing water off to her right. "I think there's some flyin' folk up there!"
'Weed', as his unfortunate bonded liked to call him, let his red gaze drift up towards the sky with a snort. "Great. Just what I need."
As if being dragged around the coastline on some treasure hunt (he'd told Teagan there wasn't any shipwreck or sights of interest around here) hadn't been bad enough. Now he'd have to socialize with others.

Phrixis was having a bad day. A very bad day. It had started out sort of nice. Minus the accidental getting stuck in a bush earlier. But he'd met a beautiful mare after getting unstuck. She'd been very sweet and enjoyed listening to his retelling of his ordeal from that morning.
And then things went downhill when some bulky stallion started talking to him. Telling him some wild tale about a mysterious fire mare.
Oh it had sounded so intriguing, going on this adventure to see if the mare was real. The bloody stallion had weaved such a grand tale that Phrixis had almost fallen for it.
In fact he'd agreed to it. Traveling with the stallion for a few hours. Until something didn't sit right with his tale and the direction they were going. When questioned, the stallion had gotten rather upset. Phrixis had challenged him, calling him out on his lie.
That's when the stallion had tried to attack him, and force him to come to the fire mare. He was having none of it. And now was attempting to outrun Bastian. But he was tiring, and he needed help.
By chance, the wind stallion spotted movement in the water below, and without any other options being present, he dove straight towards the pair in the water, shouting for help.

"Faaaantastic." Seaweed grumbled, ducking under the water to avoid being smacked into as the flying soquili hit the water with a big splash. The alligator resurfaced with a growl on the other side of his idiot bonded.
"You are a bad omen, I swear it."
While her familiar was grumping, Teagan was wide eyed in awe as the flying stallion dove right into the water. Could winged soquili like him swim?!
"Uh... Weed can he swim?" She asked, frowning before not waiting for an answer and diving under the water to see the stallion spiraling in an uncontrollable way. The mini used her tail and picked up speed to grab on to a wing and spin him right side up before directing him to the surface.
He was gasping when his head reached above the water and it was clear that he did not know how to swim.
"Weeeeeed!"
There were some not so nice words uttered from the alligator before he dove under the stallions other side to help get him to shallow water.

He was sputtering and gasping for air as it seemed wave after wave tried to drown him again. His eyes stung and he couldn't see very well, but he knew the two he'd spotted in the water were helping. Once his hooves caught on the sand below, he dragged himself out of the water.
"T-Thank... you." Phrixis gasped, looking to either side to see who his rescuers were. And then he stared in shock.
"You two saved me?" He asked, suddenly feeling his hope for assistance in batteling Bastian plummet. The soquili beside him was tiny! Like the size of a foal.
But the alligator... now he could be useful.
"Please! You have to help me!" He begged of the alligator. "He's coming. The stallion- THERE! Oh gosh don't let him take me!"

This day had started out almost perfect! He'd found an idiot stallion to take back to Lux. One that had wings and would be so very useful! He was also gullible. Something his mistress would have so much fun taking advantage of.
And then the stupid stallion had grown a conscious while he was sweet talking him. Leading him towards the dead land the fires had burnt.
"Bloody good for nothing, stallion!" Bastian grumbled, beating his wings heavily as he tried to gain on the smaller stallion. He was almost close enough to knock him out of the sky-
"Noooo!"
The stallion suddenly folded his wings and dove. Right into the ocean. Bastian cursed his misfortune turning to try and spot the stallion. And spotted something dive under the water. It had certainly looked like a soquili...
Making a large circle, the clysdale watched as the idiot Phrixis was rescued by some small soquili and what looked like an overly large lizard. If it hadn't been for Maleńki, he wouldn't have recognized the smaller one as a mini. Which instantly delighted him! Oh to have another of those small stumps moping about while his mistress taught them to follow her command! He was going to take them both, yes. Or at least the mini, if Phrixis was now a lost cause.

"There is some sort of commotion, a little farther down the beach." The golden owl said, concern coloring his tone. "I think it would be wise for us to offer our assistance."
Guide wasn't sure what exactly had happened, but the stallion he'd seen plummet into the water had certainly been in distress. And the larger one that had been not far behind he was assuming was the problem.
Frowning as he looked first at his familiar and then in the direction the owl began to fly, Sandy took up a trot. "Is anyone hurt?" He asked, eyes narrowing to try and see down the way. There were shapes beginning to form. Soquili shapes. It looked like a couple came from the water. And another was coming from the sky. Maybe one of the fliers had inured their wing?
"Stay aloft, my friend. I want your eyes to take in all that they can." Sandy snorted, approaching the situation level headed.

Yeeeep. He should have just gone and found himself a nice sunning spot, hidden away from all these nuisances. Now he had some blathering feathered idiot begging him for help? What was it about soquili with feathers? Where they all idiots?
"Damned if I'm gonna do any- " Seaweed started to growl, only to be interrupted.
"Help with what?" Teagan tilted her head, then looked up as heavy wing beats announced the arrival of the stallion that seemed to be freaking out the one she and Weed had pulled out of the water. "Him?" She asked, not so quietly. Then turned her gaze on the large black stallion.
"Whatdaya want?" She squared her shoulders and held his gaze, not ounce of fear in her small body.

Was this little mare crazy!? Phrixis sucked in a breath that sent him into a coughing fit as he tried to spit up water that he'd accidentally inhaled. No! No no no. It was the alligator that was supposed to help! He had more teeth and was more frightening in appearance. Or at least he was in Phrixis' mind. The many toothed reptile definitely held more of his confidence.
And then Bastian was landing and the pale stallion scrambled to his hooves. His ears flattened and he stood behind the alligator while the little mare talked smack.
"W-What is she doing?! She's going to get herself hurt!" Or worse. And here he was, the big confident stallion always being a show pony, cowering behind the mini mare.
"We have to stop her!" He hissed more urgently at the alligator. "Bastian will take her too. He's a recruiter. For his mistress."

Now wasn't this just quaint? Bastian just laughed, staring at the little feisty mare. Oh she would be such a prize to bring to his mistress! But this one would have to be a full blown kidnapping, he suspected. There was too much personality to her. His smooth talking wouldn't work. And then there was that idiot, Phrixis. He'd probably already told them all about his lies. And Lux.
"Now, is that any way to speak to a stranger, little missy?" He said in a condescending tone. Folding his wings back elegantly, the large stallion approached slowly. "I am merely here to retrieve something that, I'm afraid is mine." Or soon would be. It certainly wasn't that stupid Phrixis anymore. Now, if only he could get close enough to the little mare without her catching on. Or that alligator getting a bite out of him. Now him, Bastian was a little wary of.
"I am certainly happy you saved my... friend there. He's been flying so long today his smaller wings must have buckled." An understanding sort of expression flitted across his face. The mare wasn't seeming to buy his story. But he was getting closer....
Unbeknownst to the little gathering forming on the beach, another was also approaching. But the kalona's intentions were not friendly. She had been in the area when she heard the commotion. And now, she was quite amused by the sight that was forming before her. How darling of the little mare. Sticking up for a stallion she'd just met! Not. Hayden felt her lips peeling back in a silent snarl.
Pathetic. All of them. It was just her luck to get stuck in this area with all of them.
However there was one among them that had caught her attention right away. One she had been keeping tabs on.
Bastian.
He was one of Lux's. If she recalled correctly, he was the halfbreeds favored stallion. The big idiot that did whatever she asked. And he had a little crush on his 'mistress'. Or some sickening thing like that.
So what was that big idiot doing out here? Surely these incompetent fools were beneath Lux!
Then again... Hayden snickered and kept to the shadows of the foliage for now.

Teagan just stared up at the big stallion. He certainly was one of them fancy talkers, wasn't he? She had one ear trained back on the feathered stallion they'd just rescued. So... this barnacle of a stallion was tryin' to force him to go somewhere? She tilted her head a little as if in thought while studying him. He was just a big ol' bully! And she did not like bullies.
"Yap, yap, yappity yap." The mini mare glowered up at this... Bastian? Is that what the other one had called him? "You sure talk lots. I ain't sure whatcha think yer tryin' ta do. But I don't like it."
And he'd called her 'little'. That was major points against him!
"Y'better stay where yer at." She warned, angling her head enough to have her little horn pointed at Bastian. So it wasn't really big enough to do any damage to the stallion... but there were some decent sized rocks and pieces of wood she could move with her limited magic.
Why wouldn't they all just shut up? This was so annoying. And the stallion that Teagan had made him rescue would not stop whispering at him. Like he cared. Which he did not. At least... he pretended he didn't.
But the grumpy alligator was listening. And he was not liking how close this larger stallion was getting to his little mare. Red eyes narrowed and he ground his teeth.
"You heard her," he said in a bored sounding tone. "Don't move any closer."

His eyes narrowed slightly, glancing between the little mare and her pet lizard. He still eased himself a little closer before stopping and giving them both a wounded look. Like they'd greatly offended him in thinking such a thought!
"I'm beginning to think you are not a nice little mare." Bastian commented, tossing his head. "Or you're just very rude. But please, do tell me. What has Phrixis tried to lie about?" He rolled his eyes heavenward. "Did he tell you how mean and terrible I am? And that all I tried to do was help him? I even offered him a place of sanctuary!" The stallion shot an ungrateful look at Phrixis. "Perhaps I shouldn't have bothered to be so generous. He just went and started all these nasty rumors about me."
Taking a deep breath, Bastian moved closer to the mini mare. "It's just me and my lover, you see. And we've been thinking of expanding. Of starting a herd and maybe a family." He lied easily enough. "I was hoping to surprise her with someone so like minded-" But he never did finish his sentence before he was interrupted.
"...And then I grew so tired of waiting and just had to come find you myself." Hayden said with such sincere emotion, she almost believed her own words. "That is so sweet of you, my dear Bastian! I can't even find the... words to describe how I feel."
The opportunity to make Bastian sweat and foil anything to do with Lux Flamma had been too great. So she'd stepped in to throw piranha into the placid little lake of a conversation.
"Can you believe how wonderful he is?" She said with a seductive lilt, leaning towards the mini mare and glancing up at Bastian. Her eyes sparked with fire and a very subtle bit of magic was directed towards those closest. A little bit of unease and sickness might make things more interesting!
