She hadn't meant to dose off in the small glade, but the weather had just been so nice. And the little glade itself was well hidden in the forest near the mountainous region. It wasn't that far from her cave either, which was reassuring. She was still a little hesitant to leave this area. It was the only place she knew and felt comfortable in. But it wasn't quite 'home'. No, home no longer existed. And Nia was not completely certain her sisters survived. Which was the main reason she'd not gone searching for them.
The mare blinked slowly, flexing her talons before rising to her feet gracefully. She had, she admitted, tried to discover the whereabouts of her harpy sisters before. And rumor had it, there were flocks. But Nia couldn't bring herself to go seek them out. She dearly missed those that were lost to her. However, since she's spent time on her own and explored these lands, she'd grown to like her freedom. She had even raised foals without having to worry about what would happen to her handsome son!
Nia's lips twitched. H'ren was quite the stallion and was so eager to go out and find his own path to walk. It had made her heart feel heavy, watching her son leave the 'nest'. But she was happy. He needed to discover things, as she had, for himself.
Stretching once more, Nia looked up towards the sun that had been shining when she'd first nestled down on the grass. Clouds had rolled in, the scent of rain hanging heavy in the air. It made her hair stand up on end, hinting there would be a good storm to be had.
Heaving a sigh, Nia started to head back in the direction she'd originally come, planning on returning to her cave to wait out the storm. Hopefully it didn't rush in and let all hell break loose before she got back. Her pupil-less eyes gave the trees around her a stern look. If there was lightning, she did not want them being incinerated while she was stuck under them for cover!
After only a few steps, Nia found herself slowing to a stop, a frown forming on her face. Something was... amiss. Different. Her nose lifted to the air, sniffing, ears flattening. Someone was nearby. Someone she hadn't met before... which was fairly easy to accomplish, as she didn't know many individuals. There was something familiar about the scent that she couldn't quite put her talon on. Curiosity and caution urged her to hide. To wait and watch, see who was venturing near her territory. She turned swiftly and eased herself between some bushes, eyes scanning the area slowly for any sign of movement.
