Personality

Lorata is an odd little seadweller, one filled to the brim with both curiosity and an imagination as vast as the ocean she lives in. She practically lives and breathes stories, and there’s nothing dearer to her than a great and epic heroic tale. This is thanks in large part to the statues that her lusus has come into the habit of finding and placing all around her hive, each depicting some unknown troll in varying impressive poses. Dismayed to find that time and seawater had stolen away any potential trace of the trolls’ identities or any sign of what they might have done to deserve such great monuments, Lorata made a hobby of filling in the blanks of history herself.

It never took long at all for any of her heroes to get their own names and personalities and great deeds, but though she loved each and every one of the stories she’d come up with, they always left her craving more. Her first solution, then, was simply to literally make more statues. She converted a room of her hive into a sort of studio, found lots of big rocks to put in it, acquired a chisel set, and got to work at sculpting new heroes all her own. Unfortunately she wasn’t as immediately talented at her new hobby as she thought she ought to be, and the end results of her attempts were just…smaller rocks.

Clearly there was a problem here, but as she was a seadweller and surely inherently talented in all sorts of things, the problem couldn’t be her exactly. After some brainstorming, she decided that she simply didn’t have a clear enough mental image of what new heroes ought to look like. What she needed was inspiration, and then she’d be making all sorts of statues just like that! She knew already, from living here so long, that there weren’t really any other trolls near enough her hive to go visiting, at least she hadn’t seen any around yet!

There was, however, a great deal going on up above the waves, so she gathered up some traveling supplies and set out to meet other trolls, looking for the right kind of impressive to achieve her noble quest. She’s discovered that it’s a bit hard to find since most everyone on dry land is a lower blood, but luckily she’s always been good at imagining things. If she just tilts her head and squints a little, she can pretend a lowblood has fins right there on the sides of their face, and that makes it much easier to deal with them!

Thanks to this little trick, she tends to treat trolls of all castes with a fair share of friendliness, though the lower they are on the spectrum the more often she has to pause during interaction and stare at them very hard. To save herself the trouble of having to imagine every little possible better trait, though, she's found it makes things much easier to make at least some of them real traits. She's got plenty of beetles to spend on whatever she wants, so she doesn't mind using them on the needs of the less fortunate, so long as it makes them better candidates for inspiration. Heroes, to her thinking, have a certain look to them, and sometimes even just buying some poor little troll a whole new outfit can go a long way towards achieving that look!

She is very certain in the fact that is she doing great work at this, but it's inevitable that some trolls just won't take well to be being told they'd be so much better if they were just a little less themselves. Lorata doesn't like being contradicted in the least, she's at the top of the hemospectrum after all so what could they possible know that she doesn't, and is quick to revert to a complete brat if she doesn't get her way. If someone doesn't want to be better, then they can just be culled for all she cares!

Strengths and Flaws

        Strengths:

Self-Assured- When Lorata decides she can do something, that's it, end of discussion, she's going to do it. She doesn't bother doubting herself, because there is no possible world in which she doesn't eventually get exactly what she wants. Appropriately, the mindset gives her enough persistence that she often proves herself right eventually.

Imaginative- Lorata's imagination is endless, and her mind is always fast at work weaving fascinating scenarios and possibilities. Nothing is plain or simple in her world, there's always a story waiting to be seen, and she just can't wait to see them all. Even beyond filling her with optimism about the state of the world, a willingness to think about all the ways things could be comes in handy when a situation calls for an unexpected solution.

Generous- Though it's done for her own selfish reasons, Lorata is more than happy to help the lower classes better themselves. Thankfully her status affords her more than enough resources to make this possible! Need more impressive clothes, tastier food to get your strength up, a better weapon with which to get up to heroic hijinks? She's got you covered.

        Flaws:

Blame Shifter- Sometimes things go horribly wrong, but if Lorata is sure of anything it's that there's no possible way it could be her fault. Completely unable to accept that she might be wrong about anything, she will shove all responsibility for problems on others and expect them to deal with it. As such, she doesn't tend to learn from her mistakes.

Judgmental- Lorata expects everyone she meets to be an inspiration of some kind, and is very very aware of every little way people fall short of that expectation. She tends to make others aware of it as well, unafraid to just out and tell them how they could be better.

Spoiled- It should go without saying that Lorata's high blood color has assured she's never been left wanting for anything. She's used to getting her way and expects her wishes to be catered to. She doesn't take well to being told no at all, and is given to throwing tantrums when it happens.

Home and Lusus

        Home:

Ocean- Lorata’s hive is built on the ocean floor, surrounded by various colorful coral beds. It’s a big hive, bigger than it really has any right to be, full of rooms built simply to hold all the jewels and knick-knacks that being highblooded allows her to get at any time she wants. One of the lower rooms is a studio, full of different sized chunks of rock for her to chip away at with her chisel sets. Because she has in no way gotten the hang of sculpting yet, it’s really just a room full of rocks. Outside the hive is where the real statues are. They stand, tall and imposing, all around her hive, depicting various adult trolls in heroic poses. They are old and worn, with no names to identify their subjects and no paint left to signify caste, but MeduMa assures her they’re all purplebloods to be looked up to. Which she guesses makes it pretty strange they don’t all have fins, but maybe they fell off over time?

        Lusus:

Meduma is a gigantic jellyfish, many many times larger than her troll, with live snakes for tentacles. Each snake head has its own voice when the lusus speaks to her charge, and they don't always have the same thing to say, though the majority tend to. The result is often a chaotic and blood-chillingly hissed jumble of whatever her main point is plus several tangents and always with a few whispered horrible things below everything. Because those lower sentiments are usually the hardest to pick out and put together into understandable words, the effect is that Lorata is sometimes unsure whether she really heard what she thought she did at all.

Whether lucky or not for her troll's sanity's sake, the lusus tends more towards silence, drifting along and quietly watching all. She spoke most when Lorata was very young and still needed to be taught about the world, telling her all about Alternia and the Hemospectrum and how her blood was so much better than all the other trolls in the world. Except, of course, for their great monarch, but some of her many voices had whispered that as if even it was debatable. As part of those lessons, MeduMa began her collection of old, abandoned statues of purple-blooded heroes for Lorata to look up to.

Now that those lessons are mostly learned, MeduMa has gone back to being a silent presence. Always there, looming protectively (even amazingly, out of water, thanks to a mysterious ability to levitate), and sometimes hissing wordlessly to make small points, but ultimately silent unless asked a direct question. All in all, MeduMa seems content to sit back and go with with the flow of whatever her charge wishes to do.

Relationships

Aerona: She's gonna be a hero one day thanks to me!!!

Alifax: He's not very enthusiastic about it, but he's pretty cool too, right?

Odette: Don't think I've forgotten that sabotaged game!

Psykgi: Kind of an odd lowblood, but nice! Maybe she's got potential?

Adamaz: How polite! Isn't it weird how tiny lusii can be, though?

Elidae: Ahh, she's so cute and nice! We didn't solve the mystery together after all, but we should meet up again!

Trusci: I have a bobblehead of her! At least she appreciated my skills.

        Vremea: Ugh.

Hazmas: Tried to pretend he wasn't, but he was obviously on Chiara's side even though she was awful to him. Hmph, he can just look after himself then.

Kursha: A real true hero! The Captain is definitely the best!

Poeias: I wanted to teach him more, but I lost track of him at Bloodfest. Maybe one day...

Hemera: Seemed nice, but wandered off to deal with that horrible blueblood. What a weird choice.

Chiara: Awful. Me and MeduMa taught her a lesson, though. Maybe she'll be smart enough to remember it.

Leeroi: Ughh, what a horrible horrible troll. I can't believe Elidae got all googly eyed over him after what he did.

Sarcel: She was really cool during the investigation, but when we were running, she let go of me and I almost...

        Zeffer: scary monster

        Dictys: Hmph!

Regina: The Queen! She's got to have so many great stories, but I guess they're all classified. It was so cool seeing her fight though!!

Maneki: Augh, I can't believe he tricked me. I'll show him civilized next time!
