ICly this is before the fighting has begun; but the matches have been made. The males will know who they are fighting.
The Queen stood proud as she stared at the banquet that the scanvengers had found for them all. It was not huge; modest in reality but for them it was a feast. She knew that the hunting had been hard, but she was proud of them. They had done well.
Her wounds had healed slowly, most of her wounds now gone except for those deep ones which had left scars on her fur, and the limp with which she now walked. She was not the best prize, she thought ruefully, but at least she was trying.
"Welcome - " She called out, her voice spreading out through the ground who had gathered around the food. "- to the feast of Champions! I thank each and every male who put his paw in for the challenge. I am honoured by your strength." It was an odd tradition, she mused lightly as she spoke. Really, she was nothing more than a prize in all this. "Tomorrow the battles will begin, and blood may be shed. I pray that no death will fall amongst our lands; remember there is strength in discipline, not merely brute force." Oh please, let no one die.
"Tomorrow is the day of the champions, but tonight, we feast to honour them. Those who have lived amongst us," she glanced at Ruffus and Katiti, "and those who have joined for this challenge." She glanced at Marichi, who she was really surprised had joined, allowing her eyes to drift to Myjahtan, Udevu and Kehinde.
"May the spirits watch over us all, and let the fights be fought with honour and strength." She smiled, a small gentle smile though her eyes were still sad. "Please, enjoy the feast."

Katiti nodded awkwardly as Vorona acknowledged him. It was weird; he wasn't entirely sure why he had put his paw forward. Perhaps just to prove himself. The pack had found him, taken him in and raised him. Perhaps this was his chance to give back. He yipped appreciation at the end of Vorona's speech but didn't move forward to eat until the Queen had moved in to eat herself.
He grabbed a chunk of meat (he wasn't sure of the species) and pulled it towards himself, unconsciously shielding it from those around him, as if afraid they would steal it.
Aleu stood at Vorona's shoulder, a bored look on her face as the Queen droned on about honour and strength, and blah blah blah. She shook herself out of it when she finished and offered the Queen a supportive smile. Sure, she hated all the boring stuff but she did like the Queen. She had nursed her back to health after all.
Pan'eira slunk through the crowd, eying the males with a look of interest. Oooh, there was so many handsome males around now, she thought giddily. Fantastic! That was what the pack needed, more muscle. She grinned. Well, if the Queen only wanted one of them, that left plenty of them left for her to make her pick! She giggled.
Kaneika eyed Vorona as she spoke with the eyes of a medic, concern lurking behind her gaze. The Queen was stronger now, but she was not strong. The wounds had taken her tole on her, and the starvation...well, that had been brutal. Kaneika really worried for the female; maybe finding a strong mate would be a good thing. He could watch out for her...
She sighed, and grabbed a small piece of meat for herself, her stomach in knots and stopping her from eating.
