Another late day. Halim stared into the darkness of his den with a heavy sigh. If he didn’t get moving then NyAsha would be around to beat him until he did come outside. When they had originally arrived at the Pride Lands the lioness was all about letting him have space to relax and recover, but after a week’s passing she had gotten so worried that harassing him was all she knew to do. At first she had tried pushing him out earlier today, but had given up after the huge lion rolled back over several times. He felt guilty about it yet his body refused to cope with him.

After losing so much it took so much effort to move anymore.

Finding NyAsha torn up had given him strength to carry her home here to the Pride Lands, but now that he knew she was safe in the pride the lion had found sleeping easier than trying to socialize. He knew no one here and all his mind was filled with was echoes of the past. Of companions he had lost and of a love severed…Halim shook his head. No, it’s best if I don’t linger on that. Sighing he pushed off from his paws to venture outside into the midday sun. For NyAsha’s sake he should at least see what the sun looked like in these new lands.

A soft smile did escape him then. The sun was so warm…almost like a forgotten embrace. Why had he shunned it for so long now? Halim’s wise gaze looked around slowly almost as if he was trying to wake up from the fog of sleep. This place…could indeed be called beautiful. If he would only open his eyes and give this new life a true chance. But should he?

Stretching her legs with a large yawn, Makaneo shook out her fur and headed out of the den. Slowly, it was becoming more and more empty there as her siblings found friends and mates. As for herself, she was more focused on the hunt. She wanted to be able to provide for the pride, and to prove her worth to her parents and herself. With a proud mother and a skillful father, she would be devastated if she couldn't eventually be as good, if not better, than they!

With the days cooling as fall approached, Maka felt a little more awake to hunt during the day. Some days it was easier to hunt when everything else was lounging around, and other days... not as much. Still, she was training herself to be ready for whenever the need would come.

So, she was off again, hunting on her own to find a prize.

The lion walked without much purpose save to suddenly stop in his walk to gaze at something that would catch his eye. Some gave him strange glances as it was the first true time the lion had actually ventured out. His strange walk and manner made it easy to see that he was truly a new comer to the pride. It was strange to be out in the open without NyAsha bouncing at his side though. Halim both missed the bright ball of energy from the lioness yet at the same time enjoyed having quiet so that he could just enjoy the day.

Currently he was sitting ontop of one of the larger rocks in the pride surveying everything that he could from the height. Honestly though with the warmth on his back the lion was finding it hard to not just linger in the sunlight. Stretching out Halim crossed his large paws before him and with a sigh laid his head down. His teal gaze stayed open though as he continued to watch everything around him. It really was a quiet and peaceful day...

Prowling away from the pride, she caught sight of the new male resting on one of the high rocks. Oh, she'd heard about him. Brought someone back all beat up or something like that. Admirable, but what would he do now?

Shaking her head, Maka continued on her way. It wasn't any of her concern.

Yet, something about him made her look back again. Ugh. "Hey, you." She turned back and looked up at the male expectantly. "I'm bored, and you don't look much better off. Make yourself useful and hunt with me."

Honestly Halim was so lost in the clouds that hearing another's voice startled him. Blinking the lion slowly moved his gaze to look down towards the female, "You're bored?" Moving to his paws he gracefully slid down the rock to land on the ground near the lioness, "Shouldn't you hunt for need not boredom?" Surprisingly the tease was light on his tongue, but his gaze still stayed deep and dark.

"If you need help then I suppose I can assist you." He tilted his head studying the other. She seemed capable enough, but he was just startled at the sudden demand for company, "I should though." He had honestly been staying here long enough without hunting. The pride deserved him to do something for it after all. It had taken care of him the past few days and had offered him a new home...he wasn't a lazy lion after all. He was one of honor and duty...

"Lead the way then and I'll follow you, huntress."

Ear twitching, she smirked slightly and nodded. "Well, there is also need, of course. When is there not need for such a large pride when it comes to hunting?" Looking back at the pride, she smiled slightly. A large group, to be certain, but it was nice how everyone tried to look out for each other...

Turning her gaze back to the male, and inclined her head for the male to follow. "Thank you. I appreciate the assistance. My name is Makaneo, though me may call me Maka, as the hunt may require something quicker to call." Her tail swayed as she walked, eyes scanning the horizon as she decided on a spot to begin the hunt. "And what am I to call you?" She glanced back at the male briefly. "You're new here, aren't you?"

Halim actually let out a soft laugh, "I suppose then that is true. Here though I feel like the land never runs out of plenty and the hunters are always busy." Hunting was relaxing here, not a life threatening situation like he had experienced before. The memories of the roguelands and the struggles that he had experienced there still tended to haunt him. But more so the memories of those he had been separated from...the lion shook his head.

The lion just nodded at her thanks, "As you said there is a need for such a large pride. I'll always gladly help those who took me in." His gaze glimmered just slightly for a second before returning to its cold mirror, "Maka then? I'm Halim...not really any way to shorten my name. If you find a way then I suppose I can accept it."

Walking along he paused, "I'm that obvious?" The lion chuckled, "But I'm supposing for a place that you've lived in a while that a new lion is always easy pickings." After all the lioness seemed so comfortable here. Most likely she had been living here most of her life if not all.

Maka shrugged lightly. "It's just the way things are around here. More lions come, more food is needed, more cubs are born, and even more food is needed, which means more of us need to practice hunting regularly to be successful and feed all those little mouths and our own."

She gave a pleased nod. "Good to hear. Nice to feel appreciated~" she said playfully. Her tail flicked about curiously. Halim... "Well, there are ways to shorten it, but I can't say I'd be fond of any of them, so, Halim it will stay."

She laughed when he paused, glancing back at him with a grin. "Very. Don't take it personally though. This area of the pride has been my home my whole life. I know when there's a new body here." And what a nice, new sight he was... Oh, such a silly thought!

"The circle of life definitely is prevalent here." Halim nodded, "It's good though to see a pride thriving so well out here. After wandering around in desolate lands this is very refreshing." A well deserved rest for his weary soul...one that allowed him to numb out the pain of the past. Still though it was hard seeing the beauty around him with closed eyes.

The lion tilted his head thoughtfully, "I'm sure. I guess Hali wouldn't be the best either or Lim or even Ha for that matter." He actually laughed softly, a rare sound from him anymore, "Maka..." Halim said her name quietly in practice, "Alright, hopefully I can say it correctly when we hunt."

"Your whole life then?" The lion smiled, "Must be nice then to have been in a land so long you know it like the back of your paw. I definitely had no chance of tricking you then~" Once he had known a place like that...but wars and famine had turned that land to desert leaving him nothing but his own paws to wander with. Even they had seemed foreign to him at the time...but now...here was a land that he was hoping he could become comfortable with.

Her ears perked with curiosity. Desolate lands? Which were those? ..Well, perhaps it didn't matter. This was home for her, and perhaps now for Halim. Now was important; not then.

She giggled and nodded in agreement. Saying his whole name was much nicer than the shortened versions. Her ears twitched again as Halim laughed, brow knitting curiously. His laugh.. sounded a bit like her mother's; like it wasn't used enough... Though, maybe she was just imagining things. "Speaking of the hunt, what do you have experience chasing down? We can afford to be a little picky with the prey we choose this time."

Maka looked at Halim with a proud grin. "Born and raised right here! Where're you from, if you don't mind me asking?"

Halim smiled, "Wouldn't you rather chose, huntress? But I'm experienced with many types of prey even those who swim in deep." He had traveled far and wide after all.."Though I wouldn't complain for some antelope myself." Something tasty that put up a bit of a fight yet wouldn't have them running all over the lands.

The lion only shook his head with faint amusement, "Sounds wonderful then. Me?" Blinking the older lion frowned slightly, "From a place far away from here and long deserted. But come let's focus on the hunt now...I smell antelope nearby."

Turning the lion started moving quickly towards the hunt...far away from any memories of an old home long lost. Maybe one day he could look as proud as the lioness brimming with life and energy. Perhaps...just perhaps he could begin to truly wake up here in the Pridelands and live again.
