Appearance:
Tais has soft brown hair in feathery light folds usually brushed back behind his ears. He's a short man, barely at 5'5ft and not likely to grow much taller, his hands are calloused and developed from kneading and lifting pots for scrubbing, but he doesn't have much of a physique, more like a softer, lithe profile. He has soft, sweet blue eyes and tends to look more girly than manly, there is definitely a sense of the effeminate about him that gives him a very innocent sort of style and definitely makes him hard to imagine with any degree of self-confidence or pride.
He has long, defined lashes and pale, northern skin; since he spends most of his time indoors, he doesn't get out much and he doesn't tan so much as burn when he does.
Usually seen with his sleeves rolled up in too-big fitting clothing, there's a look to him that people assume he's got no endurance or lasting power. He's typically dusted in flour and wearing an apron from the kitchen, or seen carrying around trays of sweet rolls through the hungry Weyr. Tais has a sort of upbeat energy that adds a lot of vehm to his step and he always seems cheerful or smiling, except when people get in his way in the kitchen.
Personality:
Innovative and experimentation - Tais is a creative thinker, only instead of paints or the harper's words, he thinks about pastry and how to best serve klah. His main focus is on cooking and he has a curious approach to that- his attention is very fixated and strong on culinary arts. For Tais, cooking is a true artwork, and it is important to him that he is acknowledged as master baker. He really enjoys the look of pure bliss on someone's face when they take a bite of good food on a bad day and lose all their stress in that one succulent stripping of flavour.
Focused: His dedication scares some who don't find as much joy in their crafts, but it is that dedication that often sets him above other artisans. He often carries around a small wher-hide booklet in which he will jot down flavour and recipe ideas. But his creativity isn't really limited so much as focused. It's frightening the kind of headway he makes in tasks when he applies his mind to them. He approaches all roadblocks and stops as mere obstacles to be overcome and his confidence helps see an otherwise sketchy plan through. Sometimes he over-dreams himself and goes too far, but usually he gets there.
Would he rush/skip his chores and risk punishment to sneak into the kitchens? Yes, and he'll stay up late to get alone time if he's busy during the day, or rise early to. Cooking is a passion for him and he's dedicated to that passion.
Candidate, Weyrlings, and riders are all pretty busy doing their Candidate/dragon thing. Even volunteering for the kitchen, he's bound to be forced to do other chores from time to time, and if he Impresses he'll have very little time to spend in the kitchen (hatchlings are big, demanding babies). Considering how much he loves cooking, how does he feel about that? For Taisuld, cooking is a calling, and as a candidate that isn't weyr bred he doesn't understand the emotional bond that emerges from Impression; he thinks that he can treat it like a job, like a few simple chores. Although the emotional fulfillment from bonding to a dragon would do a great deal for some of the wounds that Tais carries, he would become as fussy and passionate about his dragon as his art. The two are not mutually exclusive for Tais' (although he may not yet be aware of this eventuality) in the same way that a great artist can also have interests outside of their art. Tais uses his 'art' as an emotional crutch and lets it define more than he strictly needs to.
Self-assured: Tais is not just confident of what he wants, he deserves it too. There is a flair of arrogance to his otherwise unassuming person that most people find surprising. He often gets what he wants by sweet words and a smile, but when he doesn't, well he's just as wont to take it.
Spoiled arrogance: This is something of a darker side to him in many senses because he's always being spoiled by older figures around him. As a child he was adored and given sweets and cakes with a few bats of his eyelashes, and women will often try to curry his favour by doing things for him; but as an adult he has a tendency to get his way and expect it. There is an arrogance to his nature that is somewhat uncompromising by changes or differences in the world around him. Oh, he hides it behind his sweet exterior, but he knows what's going on and he wants it to be to his favour.
Beguiling and petty- Tais believes in the adage "you catch more wherries with sweet grasses than shouts." He is generally a fairly easy person until you start messing with his kitchen-- stealing his experiments before they're ready or generally trying to bully him; Tais knows that most think of kitchen staff as little more than drudges but he won't settle for being treated as such and his lessons usually involve 'self-learning' for the offender. When he brings pastries to share, and one child hogs them all for themself, he starts getting... creative. The sort that will have you running to the latrines every meal and wondering where that rash is coming from. Or he'll wonder if you've noticed any symptoms after eating his creation? What kind? Oh, people say that its a poisonous flower, the one he put in there; but if you like it, have some more!
Yes, he can be a little devillish with revenge or those who get selfish. And he isn't afraid to be so, when someone oversteps in the first place. That being said, Tais doesn't hold a grudge as much because he vents fairly healthily as a result. Basically, he doesn't get angry, he gets 'generous and charming' while he gives you indigestion or knocks you out with fellis juice lacing his concoction. Generally his winning personality keeps people from seeing this side to him, but sometimes people realize the honey is just there so others don't see the thorns.
Bully: Taisuld can be as much an emotional bully to others as the sort that shakes younger children down for spare coins at the start of the fair. He's the sort that gets his way and if that means stepping on some toes, he's okay with it. Taisuld doesn't like to resort to strong-arm tactics, he prefers to negotiate with people before he starts trying to force them, but he's more than willing to do what's required for them to see things his way. He will manipulate others without much care for the emotional hurt at being betrayed- again, he'd rather be friends with everyone, but sometimes that just isn't possible and when its not, he is quite a beast. He's not above petty tactics, but for something small, he'll take the conflict over everyone's head and paint the other person as the aggressor. He might come running to an adult, sniffing about a toy that was stolen and a refusal to return it, when another child refuses to play with him- as an example. Once he gets what he wants; he's all smiles again and forgets/forgives the 'wrongdoer' despite it being him. This can be very jarring for others and makes it hard for him to be trusted. He doesn't like to use harsh tactics, but he also wants to have his way all the time.
Likes:
Cooking- he really loves his craft and would hate for anything to distract him from it. Like might be too light a word for his passion.
Swimming- it's not about being clean for Tais, but just enjoying a chance to play in the water.
Listening to music- Tais's dirty little secret is that he really does like the harper-craft, he just doesn't like to admit it. He might be caught humming or spying on harpers composing if you're quick enough.
Studious people- Tais really loves seeing serious, studious no-nonsense individuals. He has a soft spot for 'serious faces' and loves strict, cold, uptight individuals the most. He likes to tease them, dote on them, annoy them, help them, hinder them... generally treat them like his personal play-things.
Jerky/rations- he really hates the toss that travellers eat as nutrients and the idea of hard cheeses, salted meats, food going stale and still eating it? ew! Give him fresh ingredients any day. None of this long-life biscuits for travelling.
Weyr-born- he doesn't 'hate' them but he's a bit biased. they always come into his kitchen, eat everything and demand klah in the middle of the night to 'tend their dragons'. And they never seem to notice the beauty of his craft, scoffing in a few bites and running off to do whatever they do.
the oven- he's in a silent war with the stone ovens and their temperature inconsistencies.

History:
13.04.2984 - Taisuld is born healthy and happy to his parents.
04.11.2990 (6 years) - Taisuld baked his mother his first cake (with a little help from the other cooks when he started to have trouble with the flour) which is a ringing success and he recieves plenty of praise
12.12.2990 (6 years)- Taisuld's mother gets sick and his father starts to become very distant and take longer trips away.
26.08.2991 (7 years)- Taisuld's mother worsens dramatically and is totally bedridden. The healers give her a few weeks to live.
04.11.2991 (7 years)- Tais' mother dies on his birthday. His father is not there, away delivering a few documents to Saralonde hold.
22.02.2994 (10 years) - Taisuld is still too young to be initiated into the craft of cooking, but most of the adults have accepted him in the kitchen and stopped trying to send him off on other errands or chores. He spends more time there than most of the cooks.
14.06.2996 (12 years) - Taisuld finds an odd miscoloured egg while cleaning out the chimney in the kitchen. He brings it down to the fireplace and keeps it warm and secret from the adults.
15.01.2997 (13 years) - Tais has to explain where the very well fed Trouble fire-lizard came from when he's caught pinching meat from one of the other cooks.
05.11.2999 (15 years) - Suldon comes home for Tais birthday and things go Badly. Tais storms off and runs into a blue rider on a Search. He's a little begrudgingly taken to the Weyr to become a Canditate.
16.08.3000 -present time at Anacalime Weyr. Tais spends most of his time on voluntary kitchen chores and makes friends easily enough, even for a hold-born.
