After a long day of preening saplings so they could grow strong and clearing brush that could become a fire hazard Cinis stopped to take a break. Coming to the stream she dipped her head talking a long drink of water. Today even in shade of the forest it was almost unbearably hot, and the water with its icy contrast of temperature hit her gut like a snowball in a good way.
So she laid down on the sandy edge letting the water lap around her. it felt good on her bruises and scrapes.
A sigh escaped her as she laid back to look up at the bright cyan blue sky beyond the canopy.

Madison moved quickly through the underbrush, her throat parched. She could smell water nearby and needed it badly. She wasn't the most graceful mare on four hooves and so she made quite a bit of noise as she walked. The hood she wore was snagged by branches and briars as she moved, making her have to tug and pull her way through some spots.

As she broke free of the brush, she all but fell into the water. The hood hid fallen forward, covering her eyes so she couldn't see where she was going when she stumbled over something large and heavy. She let out a big "Ooomph!" as she fell. She shook her head to move the hood and found herself practically nose to nose with another mare. Her eyes widened and she grinned sheepishly. "OH! Sorry! Hi there. I literally didn't see you there," she laughed. "Darn hood, always falling over my eyes at the wrong times."

One moment she was relaxing, the next she felt a kind of pain that made her vision go white for a second as hooves connected with her spine.
She exclaimed loudly and jumped to her feet hobbling a few paces away. Like if she left that spot the pain would be left there of course it was not.
"Aaaaaahhh ha haaaaa haaaa damn! That hurts!" She said looking back to see who had done this. Her glowing red eyes smoldered like hot coals as she narrowed them angrily looking at the now un hooded mare. She was going to shout but . . . She has already apologized and it appeared she was not unscathed herself. She bore skinned knees from the rocks. Besides never in the history of ever had yelling actually helped anything.
"- just be more careful Next time. You could have broken a leg-" Cinis said with a exasperated sigh. Then mumbled quietly ". . . Or my back. . ."
She looked to her back to see if it was bleeding it wasn't but it was going to bruise pretty badly and bruised bones were no pic nic. She waked through the water to a cluster of willow trees. Nibbling off some of the smaller more tender branches she spat it onto the bruised spot. It would take a moment but the willow would help with the pain.
"Your knees are pretty scraped. Here." She said to the mare before delicately plucking some leaves off of a plant. She bit down a once to get the juice flowing.
"Put them over your knees it will sting for a second but it will slow the bleeding."

Embarrassed that she had seemingly injured the mare, Madison was mortified. "I'm SO so so sorry. Are you okay?" She watched as the mare treated her own wound, and then offered her something for her knees. Madison looked down. She hadn't even noticed that they were scraped. A very quiet "oh" escaped her lips as she realized she was injured as well. She took the offered leaves from the mare and did as she said, putting them on her knees. There was a slight sting, and then a numbing feeling. It did feel a bit better. "Thank you," she said, looking up from her task. "It feels better. How's your back?" She winced as she stepped forward, trying to keep a steady footing and not wobble.

"I'll have some deep bruising for a couple of days but other than that it should be fine. Nothing is broken Ill just keep putting willow on it until it go's away." Cinis gave a smile of reassurance. "We're you running from something? You were moving pretty quick." She asked looking the direction the mare had come from. She frowned a bit there were Broken twigs and crushed plants the whole way.
She might as well of marked her trail with painted arrows. Cinis thought walking over to a oak sapling that had been stepped on. It wasn't badly damaged just a little squished. Gently using just her lips she helped it upright once more.

Her ears flattened to her head and she grimaced at the destruction she'd made. "Err...no. I wasn't running from anything. I was just really thirsty." At the thought of which, her throat reminded her how parched it was. "Speaking of which...." she paused and walked over to the water and took a long drink. The hood that she'd thrust back off her head fell over her eyes again when she bent down. As she raised back up, water dripped from her chin onto the cloth around her neck. It soaked in there and cooled her neck, something she wasn't going to complain about at all.

She returned her attention to the other mare. "I'm not usually so clumsy," she said, continuing the conversation. She tilted her head backwards to push the hood back again. "It's just this hood keeps getting snagged on the branches and briars as I pass, and I pulled to get free and it fell over my eyes, causing me to not be able to see where I was going and then WHAM! I fell onto you." She shook her head, sending small droplets of water into the air. She looked at the mare, a bemused look on her face. "I'm just not used to it yet I suppose."

Spitting a little water around the oak sapling to give it a little extra help, she listened and moved to the next bit of damage control.
"The hood seems more hassle than it is worth. Is it important to you?" She asked "Perhaps a symbol of devotion or a gift from a loved one? I have something similar a head dress and mask but it is strictly for ceremonial purposes."
Why was she being so social Cinis wondered normally she would have chased this destructive intruder off in no time. There was after all work to be done, normally that was the priority and rightly so.
Cinis looked over to see the mare standing in the stream her hood falling back droplets of water coating her delicate muzzle like wet crystal shards. A few seconds of looking felt too long quickly she looked back to her work not wanting to seem as if she were staring. A strange feeling fluttered in the pit of her stomach like nervousness or something akin to it anyway.
Maybe It wouldn't hurt to talk a bit longer and perhaps the spirits had thrown them together for a reason.

"It was a gift, actually. A gift from my father. He took me to a human village and that's where it was made for me. Otherwise, we don't really have any interaction with two-leggers." She thought back to the day she'd gotten it. She was so excited about it, and had rarely taken it off since. It hadn't been too long ago actually. "It wasn't but a few moons ago that I got it."

She tried picturing her in a mask and giggled. "You say you have a mask and headdress? I bet it looks great on you." After a brief pause, Madison returned to where Cinis was standing. "You must really care for the earth to take the time to help it mend like that. I've never done that. It's.....really special that you do that." She smiled at the mare.

"You know, I don't think I introduced myself. My name is Madison. It's really nice to meet you."

"The only gift my father ever gave me was this lovely bald head of mine." Cinis laughed
"My Mask was also a gift a friend of mine by the name of regalia took me too the human village and had it made for my birthday. Though I too have limited interaction with two leg-ers as well. I avoid them most avidly as they are a source of much Conflict - no more confusion for me. See generally in nature destruction is useful. Take for example fire it is extremely destructive no one can argue with that but it is also very essential to the cycle of life. The destruction it causes is balanced if not out weighed by its benefit.
Humans however are as destructive as fire if not more so and yet . . . They do no good so great as that it balances." Cinis paused looking the direction she knew the village laid "does this mean they are unnatural or that perhaps their act of balance has yet to remain seen. Like seeds beneath the ash waiting for rain." Saying the last bit quietly almost more to herself than anything.
She cleared her throat as if coming back to reality
"I'm sorry I-Don't mean to ramble I get carried away. Nice to meet you Madison I'm Cinis Forest guardian and priestess of the flame, but those are just words. How about now that you've listened to my ramblings to make up for it I show you why I do what I do?"
Cinis looked over her shoulder and nodded for her to follow.

Madison listened intently to the mare's words, trying to understand them the best she could. Her capacity for learning was high, and she was soaking in all that Cinis was explaining. Her words told of the balance of nature, something that Madison had never thought about before. It was quite beautiful in that the earth provided itself with such a magnificent process.

To hear her say that the humans were unnatural confused her. Were they not creatures just like she and Cinis? This intrigued her and left her with many questions, but she bit her tongue and listened quietly until the offer to see what exactly Cinis did was asked. "Oh yes, I would love to see what you do. Everything that you've mentioned has awoken my thirst for knowledge. Please, lead the way." She smiled brightly at her and followed along behind.
