I'm estimating that each of those mountain sections was at least 3000 tons. Adding them together gives us roughly 6000 tons as Goku's benching strength. Note that this was done in SSJ form.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a write-up on Goku that I made in Pym's Ultimate VS Database. It has been considered by many people in that guild, and we reached a logical conclusion.
Son Goku (a.k.a. Kakarot)

Strength:
There hasn't been too much evidence of Goku's true physical strength, considering that it has mainly been used while smashing an opponent. With that said, it's hard to tell what he is capable of, but we do know that it's excessively strong.
-During the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, as a child, Goku made his opponent get a ring-out by simply tapping him with his finger. It's wasn't even an intentional attack.
-Goku's rate of physical attacks is extremely high, as he delivers multiple punches and kicks to his opponent per second.
-Goku has sent his opponents flying over huge land masses from hard hits many times.
-Goku has trained at gravity levels of 150x earth's normal gravity, which adds massive amounts of strength to his physical attacks in normal gravity, as well as adding extreme speed to the attacks.
-Goku easily stopped a full-strength sword swing from SSJ Trunks, with 1 finger. Even after the blade hit Goku's finger, Trunks was still struggling to make the sword budge.
And now, we have finally come made a decision about the "40 ton" issue. We have come to the conclusion that Goku indeed has the ability to bench press at least 40 tons while in base form. As a Super Saiyan, however, 40 tons seemed like nothing at all to Goku, as he carried on his training like normal while in that transformation state.
Lastly, in regards to strength, we have come to another decision that Goku's maximum bench pressing ability is about 2500 tons. Though it hasn't been proven, we find it to be a fair estimate.
Speed:
The final decision has been made that Goku has the ability to move at 99% Lightspeed, without the use of Instant Transmission. However, while using Instant Transmission, Goku exceeds Lightspeed, as the technique is instant.
Durability/Endurance:
Goku has been shown to be extremely durable in battle situations
-His Saiyan genes let him make quick recoveries with a bonus of added strength each time he recoveres from a battle.
-While battling Piccolo, Goku got a huge hole blasted through his right pectorial. The hole was so large that you could clearly see right through it. Though Goku took a hit like this and lost huge amounts of blood, he continued to fight, and won.
-Goku has repeatedly been hit into massive land formations by opponents, and each time he has come back for more.
-He also has taken excessive physical attacks all over the body and continued to fight afterwards.
-Goku has taken direct hits by massive Ki blasts with planet-busting power and still had the durability to continue.
-While training in the Capsule Corp. Gravity Training Ship, Goku purposely launched a full powered Kamehameha wave around the ship, and let it take a direct hit at him, without blocking. Goku was able to easily withstand the blast.
-Goku has been tossed into magma while battling on an erupting Planet Namek, and survived the intensity.
-He has been able to maintain holding a massive Spirit Bomb while directly taking multiple attacks from Kid Buu.
Intellect:
When it comes to Goku, he is not bright at all. Goku has recieved no form of education (other than his driving school tests) and tends to show limited amounts of intelligence in many scenarios.
Though, when it comes to battles, Goku tends to have his moments of battle intelligence. Goku shines when it comes to learing new techniqes (example: learing the Kamehameha wave after seeing it done only once)
-During the battle with Raditz, Goku came up with the plan of sacrificing himself so that Piccolo could blast through Raditz. Although this involved for Goku to volunterily accept death, it was quite smart and chances are that the battle would not have been won without that plan.
-Also during the battle with Raditz, Goku demonstrated a technique with the Kamehameha wave that nobody else had thought of. Goku developed how to re-direct the direction of the Kamehameha after being fired, which proved to be quite effective against Raditz.
-During the battle with Frieza, Goku out-smarted Frieza in his own technique by moving in a pattern that would cause Frieza's energy disks to come back and slice him in half.
-During the battle with Captain Ginyu, Goku quickly realized that Ginyu, with his body changing attack, would change into anything that came into contact with the beam. Seeing this, when Ginyu attempted to use it on Vegeta, Goku threw a frog in the way of the beam, causing Ginyu to turn into a frog. It's a little strange, but this counts for some serious quick-thinking.
-During the battle with Cell, when Cell activated his self-destruction technique, Goku realized that the only way to save earth was to teleport with Cell to another planet using Instant Transmission. Though Goku once again sacraficed himself, it was a brilliant move that saved earth.
-Goku single-handedly discovered the key to achieveing the level of SSJ3, a feat that nobody else but Gotenks could pull off, and yet Gotenks still had to get advice from Goku on how to do it.
Fighting Skill:
In regards to Goku's fighting skill, he is top of the class. He outmatches all of his fellow Z Fighters who have all mastered their skills along with Goku (example: Goku surpassed Vegeta, who was known as a Saiyan Elite, one of the strongest fighters). Not to mention that Goku has surpassed every villan in the history of Dragonball Z (these are villans who had the universe trembling at the sound of their name). Goku has also surpassed multiple masters of martial arts who have taught him (examples: Korin, Kami, Master Roshi, North Kai) and even stronger ones who haven't taught him, which would be the Supreme Kai. Goku has also trained with various people and learned techniques off them (Kami, Master Roshi, Yamcha, Tien, Chaoizu, Krillin, North Kai, Vegeta, Piccolo etc.)
There tends to be no real flaws in his techniques. Even though there aren't flaws, Goku tends to not use other fighting methods, such as grabs. Even though he sticks to using styles that he has learned off the multiple people he has trained with, it's extremely effective in battle.
Techniques/Powers:
Goku has quite a few techniques that are useful in battle:
-Ki Flight: With this, Goku can fly while the level of Ki consumption by this is almost nothing. While flying at high speeds, Goku can skim massive areas of land in a few seconds.
-Ki Blasts: Energy waves that Goku can create using limited amounts of Ki. Ki Blasts have been shown to be able to destroy huge areas of land. These are often powered up and used in one big blast, or used in multiple, weaker blasts. Using these in multiple blasts is quite effective if the opponent is caught off guard.
-Kamehameha Wave: An excessively powerful enegy wave that Goku has used multiple times. With this technique, Goku could easily destroy planets, and even the solar system if it was charged enough.
Now here's where I'll prove that it has the potential to destroy the solar system:
During the battle with Cell, Cell said that if Gohan didn't stop his blast, that it would destroy the solar system. All of the Z Fighters agreed with him. Goku even repeated it to Gohan after hearing it, as he agreed with Cell's statement also. All of the Z Fighters have seen many kinds of attacks and what they can do, not to mention that they have seen the Kamehameha wave the most out of them all, and most of them use the Kamehameha wave too. Therefore, their judgement on the power of that Kamehameha wave is most likely correct.
Now since Goku has surpassed Cell's power, it's safe to say that Goku could do the same thing with a Kamehameha wave.
-10x Kamehameha: An attack that Goku developed while SSJ4. It's power far exceeds that of a normal Kamehameha wave.
-Spirit Bomb: A massive ball of energy gathered from the energy of those on the given planet. This is by far Goku's most powerful attack.
-Spirit Bomb (Absorption): A skill that Goku developed as a variation to the Spirit Bomb. After collecting enough energy from the Spirit Bomb, Goku absorbs the entirety of the energy, therefore making his power, strength, speed, durability and endurance excessively greater than before while at full strength. Basically, his body is overflowing with power.
-Instant Transmission: A technique that allows Goku to instantly teleport himself to a desired location after once tracking an energy signature in the desired area. With this technique, he is able to exceed Lightspeed, as the technique is instant.
-Instant Transmission (Kamehameha): A combination attack of the Kamehameha wave and Instant Transmission. With this, Goku charges his Kamehameha wave while far from the opponent, and immediately before launching it, uses the Instant Transmission to appear behind the opponent for a direct hit.
-Solar Flare: A technique that creates a blinding flash of light that lasts for about 10 seconds. The user of the technique, which would be Goku in this case, is not affected by the flash of light. This technique is perfect for escaping (if necessary), as the opponent will have no choice but to close his eyes or be blinded.
-Super Dragon Fist: This is by far Goku's strongest physical attack. The power of the Eternal Dragon is summoned to deliver an outrageously strong punch. This attack had the potential to punch directly through Super Android #17, during the time when Goku was reverted back to a child and only in base form.
-Kaioken (all levels): A power-up technique that dramatically increases the power, speed, strength and durability of the user.
-Giji: This is basically a false version of a Super Saiyan. The user has almost achieved the power of a Super Saiyan, but is lacking 1 or 2 conditions.
-Super Saiyan (SSJ): A transformation technique that exponentially increases the power, strength, speed and durability of the user, many times more effective than Kaioken, and can be maintained for longer periods of time. After an extensive period of training and living only as a Super Saiyan, Goku's body became more used to staying in this form.
-Ultra Super Saiyan (USSJ): A higher version of Super Saiyan. When Goku achieved this, his power and strength were almost that of a Super Saiyan 2, but he had a major lack of speed due to bulging muscles. This was never used again.
-Ultra Super Saiyan 2 (USSJ2): The next level of USSJ, with more power, more strength, and a greater lack of speed due to more muscle mass. This was also never used again.
-Super Saiyan 2 (SSJ2): A level of Super Saiyan that has greater power than USSJ2, but muscle mass is not increased at all, and therefore the user achieves excessive power, strength, speed, and durability, greatly exceeding that of a Super Saiyan.
-Super Saiyan 3 (SSJ3): The next level of Super Saiyan with much more power, strength, speed and durability than Super Saiyan 2. When Goku first used this in battle, he could not maintain it for long, considering that he was only granted 1 day on earth, and transforming cost him energy. Still, he can use this form for longer periods of time just like the other SSJ transformations under normal conditions.
-Super Saiyan 4 (SSJ4): The ultimate level of SSJ. With this, Goku gains the pinacle of power that was only exceeded by SSJ4 Gogeta (reason: Gogeta was a fusion of 2 SSJ4 fighters). This gives Goku the ultimate level of power, strength, speed, durability and endurance.
Gear:
Goku doesn't have much gear that he uses. The only things that Goku has that could be claimed as gear are his weighted clothing and Nyoibo Staff. Even though Goku has the Nyoibo Staff, he only used it as a child.
I guess you could consider Goku's Nimbus Cloud to be part of his gear as well, though he stopped using it after the Vegeta Saga. It was used more for taking Gohan to high school afterwards in the future.
History:
As an infant, Goku was sent off from his home planet, Vegeta, in order to grow up on Earth, become a destructive warrior, and eliminate all on the planet. Grandpa Gohan then found Goku during his journey, and took the responsibility of raising him. While hiking on cliffs with Goku, Goku climbed out of Grandpa Gohan's hold and fell down a tall cliff. Thus, suffering a major head injury, Goku's memory was wiped clean. He then grew up as a gentle and peace-loving person with Grandpa Gohan. As he grew up, he developed a passion for fighting, and entered many martial arts tournaments as a child. After Grandpa Gohan's passing, Goku journied on his own and eventually trained with Master Roshi. Later as he grew up and made new friends, he married a woman named Chi Chi, daughter of the Ox King, and they had a son named Gohan, named after Grandpa Gohan. Now as an adult, Goku found that many enemies from all across the galaxy were out to destroy him. His first indication of this, was his battle with Raditz, in which Goku had to sacrifice himself to destroy Raditz. Because of this, Goku was sent to heaven, and trained with the infamous North Kai. After shapening his skills and learing new techniques, Goku headed back to earth after being wished back by Bulma with the Dragonballs. He now was prepared to face a new threat, Nappa and Vegeta. After quickly dealing with Nappa, Goku and Vegeta started a massive battle. They both battled very efficiently, but in the end, Goku claimed victorious, and Vegeta fled to be healed. Later on, Gohan, Krillin and Bulma ventured to Namek in search of the Namekian Dragonballs, where they soon learned of a new threat, Frieza. After a long period of intese training in the Capsule Corp. Gravity Training Ship, Goku landed on Namek and battled the Ginyu Force, a squad hired by Frieza to eliminate anyone of his choice. After dealing with the Ginyu Force, Goku dealt with the main threat, Frieza. During this battle, Goku achieved the level of Super Saiyan, which was his key to defeating Frieza after attempting a Spirit Bomb. After defeating Frieza, Goku decided to let Frieza go as long as he promised not to harm anyone else. Frieza backfired and launched a last ditch effort blast at Goku, which was easily blocked. Goku then directly blasted Frieza, and he was sure it was over. After escaping an exploding planet Namek, Goku landed on the planet Yardrat, where he leared a new technique, Instant Transmission. After leaving Yardrat, Goku returned to Earth where he learned from Trunks, Vegeta's son from the future, that androids were coming in 3 years to wipe out all civilization. Knowing this, Goku and the others spent 3 years of intensive training to prepare themselves for the coming of the androids. After they came, Goku's viral heart disease took effect, which Trunks predicted 3 years before. With this now in place, Goku was rushed home to take the medicine that Trunks had previously given him. After Goku was well, he learned of a new threat on earth, Cell, a being created by Dr. Gero to take revenge on Goku. This creation had the cells from many fighters in his body, including Goku. Goku and Gohan then entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to get 1 year's worth of training, in 1 day (real time). After training, Goku learned that Cell had assembled a "Cell Game", a tournament to decide the fate of the planet. Goku and the other Z Fighters were granted 10 days to prepare for this tournament. Finally, the tournament came, and Goku was first up (next to Hercule who was hilariously defeated). Goku then had an extreme battle with Cell, but realized that the battle was going nowhere. Goku withdrew from the match, and handed the position over to Gohan, who achived the level of Super Saiyan 2 and defeated Cell. Since Goku had to sacrafice himself during the Cell Game to save the Earth, Goku was once again sent to heaven, and entered in Grand Kai's Tournament. Here, Goku battled Pikkon, and the match ended in a draw. Goku then developed how to become Super Saiyan 2 and 3 while in heaven. Goku then returned to Earth, and found out of the threat of Buu, an ancient creation created by Bibidi, the father of Babidi the wizard. After batting with Vegeta after Vegeta's mind had been taken over by Babidi, Buu had enough power to be reborn. Buu then caused massive destruction, but eventually became friends with Hercule. After becoming enraged once more, Buu transformed into Super Buu, and caused extreme suffering worldwide. Goku then recieved Portara earrings from Supreme Kai, which let him fuse with Vegeta. After becoming the newly fused Vegeto, they battled Super Buu and ended up being absorbed by him. While inside Buu, they found many of their allies who had been absorbed by Buu. After escaping Buu's body and releasing them, Buu had a major transformation, and transformed into his true form, Kid Buu. As Kid Buu, Goku and Vegeta had quite a difficult time batting him. Eventually, Goku decided to use the Spirit Bomb, and with a little help from his allies, Goku launched the final Spirit Bomb that defeated Buu once and for all. Many years passed and Buu was reborn as Uub, as Goku had silently wished as Buu was being destroyed. Goku met Uub at the next Tenkaichi Budokai, and after seeing what Uub was capable of, Goku decided to live with Uub in his village and teach him the ways of martial arts. Goku's wild and exciting journey has now come to a brief stop, but his adventures still continue after training with Uub. . .
Notes:
That's basically what happened throughout Dragonball Z, with a little Dragonball info in there as well. I'm not going to get into what happened in Dragonball GT as for now. The most significant part of GT was the SSJ4 transformation, which we know about already. So I'll leave it at what I have for now.
