A proud smile adorned a pink muzzle as the alicorn soared above the treetops. There had been chatter in the Kawani village of a mare with a snake for a tail wandering nearby, and that could only mean one thing: Gogol was close. His eyes scoured for the lake she'd last been seen drinking from as the snake warded off any unwanted visitors. His heart pounded as he approached a body of water, and his excitement grew as he landed with a splash. He had been waiting in the village for months in hopes of news of his beloved daughter. It had been longer, still, since he had seen her. Cooper hadn't had any luck in his search for the mare, but then again he didn't expect to. She wasn't horribly sociable and was constantly on the move. From the water, he couldn't see much of the surrounding shoreline. The lake was fairly large, and he figured it'd take him a little while to search the surrounding area. In an attempt to save time, he yelled from the water. "Gogol!" His voice echoed across the water. For good measure, he bellowed again before exiting the water.

Pink hooves were muddied from a long day's travel through the heart of the Soquili lands. A hiss of discontent emerged from the spine of a softly colored mare, and she shushed it before approaching the lake to clean herself. The cool water sent a slight chill up Gogol's legs and she shook herself a bit. Another hiss of disagreement left the tail and she glared. "I swear, one more sound out of you and I'll n** your tongue off." Serpent eyes widened and narrowed again before the snake settled itself on the mare's back, away from the cold. "That's what I thought." She grinned smugly peering into the water toward her dirty little feet. One at a time, she lifted them and swished them in the water, watching each cloud of mud appear and then disappear when the foot was clear of most of the debris.

The mare had been returning to this lake for several days now. Something about it seemed comforting; whether it was the knowledge that she wouldn't go thirsty and the plentiful berries, she didn't know. This lake just seemed right for the time being. As she began to exit the water, a voice was heard. Her large, sensitive ears clearly heard her name. There it was again! "Dad...?" She grinned in excitement. "DAD!" Within a moment's notice, Gogol was out of the water and looking around rather frantically. "Dad this way!" She stumbled over rocks and headed in the direction she thought she'd heard the voice. "Dad I'm coming!"

Cooper scrambled to the shore and up over the moss-covered rocks. "Gogol!" His excitement became uncontrollable and he nearly pranced toward the voice. "Gogol, it's been so long!" The alicorn wanted to see his daughter horribly, partially so he could catch up and make sure she was okay, but mostly so he could give her the snake-controlling gift. He hoped she'd like it, or that she'd understand what it was. For a moment he was worried, as he hadn't thought about that before. But if it worked, it worked. If not, at least it was pretty. She didn't really have to keep it anyway, if she didn't want to. But he knew she would.

After a few moments of tripping over rocks and Vir asserting his disapproval rather vocally, Gogol caught up to her father. "Dad!" The smile on her face was unflappable as she nipped at him. "Dad, you look ridiculous. You're soaking wet and your hair's all kerfuffled." She giggled and rolled her eyes at her parasite. "You shush." After a moment of exchanged glares, she turned her attention back to her father. "I've been looking for you, you know. On and off anyway. Heard you might be hanging around with the two-leggers." She sighed. "Didn't really want to go there, though. So I looked around elsewhere. Found a few neat places I think you'd like to see some time if you're up for it." She tried to keep a straight face. "But you know, since you're old, maybe you wouldn't find it as much fun as you would have used to."

Cooper chuckled at his daughter's teasing. "Oh, you don't think I look dazzling?" He struck a bit of a pose before nosing at her and watching the snake attached to her tail. "I was with the two-leggers. You should have come, they've always loved you. And your mane is overdo, you know." He grinned and nipped at the pearls entwined in her hair. Her silly antics were missed greatly. "Hey, if you knew where to find me, why didn't you come give me an invite? You're never too old for an adventure!"

Her laughter was uncontrollable for several moments as her father showed off. "Dazzling, huh? I'm not entirely sure that's the word I'd use first, but sure, why not?" Gogol's laughs became short snorts and her snake wiggled in protest to the annoyance. All of a sudden, she became very serious. Perhaps it was from the snake, or maybe from the mention of the two-leggers. "You mean, my mane doesn't look okay?" She made her way to the water to look at her reflection. There were several sticks poking from the top, and it was frizzy and out of place on her delicate head. "Oh my. Would you look at that, Vir? I'd have thought you would have at least told me. You, of all things!" She gave the snake a sharp glance before it jolted and struck her on the nose. She yelped and rolled her eyes. "Well that wasn't very nice at all!"

He laughed at the mare, who he knew was obviously putting on a charade about her hair to get something out of him. "Oh, dear, you know I didn't mean anything by it. The two-leggers would like to see you, is all." Coop followed her to the water and rolled his eyes a bit. He stayed clear of her path, certain she was going to pull some funny business. "You can splash me if you want, but I'm already wet, dear!" His eyes widened at the sudden aggression of the snake and he rushed to her. "Gogol, are you all right?" He nosed at her worriedly, unsure of whether the beast was poisonous.

She scrunched her nose and nodded to her father. "Yeah, he can't hurt me any. I think I'm immune to him by now anyway. My nose used to kind of puffy and pink, but now it doesn't. It just bleeds where he gets me." Gogol grumbled something inaudible, but the snake clearly understood and retreated, curling up on her rump and hissing lowly. The mare gave her attention back to her father. "He's just mean, is all. He doesn't like it when I try to be silly. Don't know why, he's just a big ol' grump. Kind of like you, I guess." She smiled and nipped at him, little trickles of blood running down her muzzle from the fang holes.

Cooper eyed the droplets of blood and frowned a bit at his daughter. If only he could convince her to go to the village, he could give her the instrument he'd gone through so much to obtain. "Ought to take the fangs right out of him. I mean really, does he need them?" He couldn't help but grin through his worries at watching the snake strike a defensive pose. "I'm sure the two-leggers could do it. They could give him some sort of tonic to make him take a nap, and just pull 'em out. He'd just have to be a vegetarian, is all!" He chuckled some more at the snake's obvious dissatisfaction with his idea and decided that getting within striking range would probably be a bad plan. "They really would love to see you, though, dear. It's been ages. Your beads could come out at any minute, and you'd never get them back! And we both know how your grandmother frets over the beads she gave you..." He was trying very hard to convince his daughter to go there. He feared that if he went to get the device and came back, she'd have already moved on, and that wouldn't do him any good at all.

Vir hissed and puffed out his hood, not fond of the taunts made by his host's father. He then eyed the mare, hissing lowly. "Oh shush, you silly thing. He didn't mean it." Gogol rolled her eyes at the snake, then looked to Cooper. "It's not going to do either of us any good to get him all worked up, you know. Just because you know I was right, it doesn't mean you need to take it out on Virry dear." She giggled at her pet name for what she truly viewed as quite a nuisance. However, it seemed to calm the snake and in turn, it calmed her. Her pose became more relaxed and she splashed a bit in the water, watching her hooves return to their original pale pink. "So what's so important at the Kawani Village anyway, huh? I mean, they're nice and all, but they've never been too thrilled to deal with Vir's antics. He hasn't bitten anyone yet but you can tell that's what they're thinking about the whole time." She twitched one of the wings behind her ears in an attempt to feel the beads in her hair for their position. After a few moments, she sighed. "I guess you're at least right about the beads... But I really don't want to go."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 08, 2014 7:11 pm

Cooper smiled and gave his daughter a nudge at her becoming more willing to go with him. "There's nothing important, I just don't want you to lose your beads, and you know that crazy basket-painter would love to see you. She's always been so fond of you, even if Vir is a little bit off putting." He made a childish face at the snake which was met with a lazy hiss. The sun was beginning to set, and Coop knew that Gogol disliked travelling at night. "But if you're going to make a decision, you'd better make it now. The sun will be gone in just a few hours and it takes about half a day to reach the village. We ought to at least get started, don't you think?"

Gogol sighed and rolled her eyes. Vir had become tucked away safely on her back, snuggling up in preparation for the loss of the sun's warmth. She gave her father an unimpressed work before stomping out of the water and stopping at the shoreline. "Well come on then! Haven't got all night, you know! This was your idea, so you'd better lead it. Besides, I haven't the slightest idea of where I am. Never do. Obviously, though, I'm close enough for you to have found me." She eyed him sternly, growing impatient with the older stallion.

The alicorn grinned at his success, and trudged his way out of the water. "Oh, shush! I'm coming, I'm coming!" His face was plastered with smug look and he couldn't help but laugh when she rolled her eyes. "You know," he chided, "it's been far too long since we've gone on any sort of journey together." Coop's tone became more loving and cheerful. "I do believe it's well overdue, don't you?"

The mutant huffed at her father, her small bat-like head wings covering her massive ears as he spoke. "Oh, I'm never going to hear the end of this, am I?" She struggled for a few moments to keep her face stern and serious, but she couldn't help but allow a smile to sneak its way through. Gogol nipped at her father and feigned a pout at his scolding tone. "Well you know, if you ever went anywhere I wanted to go, we'd probably have some more adventures together. But it's always mountains and deserts, and I don't like climbing and I definitely don't like heat. It's just not my kind of travel." She snorted impatiently as she waited for him to start moving. "But yes," she agreed, "I guess we could be a little bit more friendly with each other. But you'll have to come find me, you know." Gogol grinned at the idea of a chase.
