I think people are getting a bit too butt-hurt on it being an illegitimate way to obtain a shiny. In all reality, it's the same concept as the lotto in-game. You have to be REALLY lucky to find someone elses' value number that matches yours.

Wow, people are really upset about this? confused The old shiny systems worked the same, pretty much. In gen 4 (for example) it was based on your secret ID number (though it was slightly little more difficult to find than the new value), and there was a legal-but-cheaty-feeling trick to manipulate the RNG and make eggs with the same secret ID as your trainer.
Having to trade with people online seems much more legitimate than some of the old ways, really.
