During the first attack from the colossal titan, she lost her entire family. Mother, father, and eldest brother. During her grief she was entirely ready to give up and submit to the titans that had invaded, however thanks to the help of a stranger, was rescued.

After being taken in and tended to by a family, it took Lauren many years to allow her heart to open towards anyone. It was difficult to accept love in a world where you wanted nothing more than to die. Eventually her outlook was changed by consistent good fortune and a new found love, whom she lost only a year later from illness. During the second attack by the titans in the walls, she was injured while trying to make her escape and later discovered thanks to a miscarriage from the injuries sustained, she had been pregnant.
