What Umeko noticed and appreciated about having followed her mother was the peace and quiet that she found. Living amongst relatives in the Padmapani herd and also total strangers one could hardly find the time to really enjoy the peace and quiet that life had to offer. The upside was that one was never truly lonely. However Umeko had been craving a little alone time with her mother and had decided to follow her to this small band of Soquili.
She had met with Daenerys and agreed to follow the simple tenets that the roaming herd had given to her. The mare had no qualms about not harming another member as it just wasn't in her nature to do so. If joining had the added benefit of having long talks with her mother then Umeko couldn't imagine a better idea; so she had joined.
Now, as she idly cropped at the tender shoots of green grass at her feet she wondered what everyone back home was up to. Daenerys had indicated that at any time she could leave but Umeko was content for the moment just to stick around.

Illyria wasn't sure if she had made a mistake in fleeing her home. Surely she could have found some place where she could have hidden herself amongst the local populate. Would it have been better there in a strange new land where she did not know of the dangers? Already she had come under surprise attack a few times. Her wings had provided her a means of escape. The awe they inspired gave Illyria few precious seconds to use to her advantage. She knew it would not always be the case. One day the awe would be lost and she'd not have any extra time to utilize.
Illyria felt herself tiring and angled her flight to land on the springy turf below her. She would need to rest her wings before attempting flight again. Walking would suffice for now. Perhaps she could even take the time to graze. Folding her large wings against her side Illyria closed her eyes against the glare of the sun before ducking her head to rip at the grass. She'd be content just to stay put for the time being if it were up to her.

Daenerys grazed in the area not too far from Umeko. In truth, her diet consisted primarily of meat. She ate plants when it suited her or, in times like this, when she just wished for the sort of companionable silence that grazing in a group could bring.
She glanced over to Umeko. She didn't feel as if she knew the mare very well yet, but what she did know was that Umeko was kind like her mother. Sometimes Daenerys wondered if Umeko was glad to have left her ancestral herd behind to join her khalasar. She had family in both places, after all. Daenerys took a step closer to Umeko and then paused as a shadow passed by overhead.
Daenerys looked up and immediately knew it was no soquili she had met before. The wings on the flyer were immense. Dany had never yet seen an angeni but wondered if this might be one coming down to greet them. The flying mare landed not too far away from them, off in another patch of clear grass.
"Come, Umeko." Dany's curiosity pulled her in the direction of the stranger. "It is only polite to make a proper greeting."

Umeko had just finished ripping more grass from the ground when a shadow was cast from above onto the ground. Umeko felt a brief shiver pass over her as the grass fell from her open mouth. If the shadow from above was accurate, than the one casting it had a wingspan of a length that Umeko had not seen before. At the summons from Daenerys the mare straightened her posture before swiftly trotting to fall in line behind Daenerys. As they approached the stranger Umeko couldn't help but gaze in astonishment. What was it like to fly with wings like those?
"Do you think that she's heard of us Daenerys?"
Umeko stood close just off of Daenerys's left shoulder. She'd let her leader initiate first contact.

At first Illyria assumed that she had found a patch to herself to graze alone in peace and quiet. However once she had adjusted her own position so that the sun didn't blind her every time she came up with a mouthful of grass she regretfully noted the two approaching figures. One had jewelry that caught and reflected the sun's rays causing bright flashes of reflected light with each movement the figure took. Illyria squinted and made out her visitors to be two mares.
As both neared her position she allowed herself another mouthful of grass before bringing her head up. Her eyes were sharp now. If these two had already been in the area it was possible that they had already seen her wingspan so bringing that idea into play was vetoed quickly. Instead Illyria changed her posture to that of her regal bearing and locked gazes with the mare that wore the jewelry. She would not speak first.

"It's possible," Daenerys told Umeko before they reached the other mare. A small group of soquili like their own wasn't terribly noteworthy, but her dragons were at the very least an oddity. That would be what the rumors were about if they existed, she imagined.
As she grew closer, she was able to scrutinize the mare more closely. It was evident from her fine jewelry and high bearing that this mare was noble-born, or whatever the equivalent was in the Kawani lands. Daenerys wouldn't be surprised to find out that she was the heir of some local herd. She decided to treat the mare with respect, but not as someone superior to herself. She had declared herself queen and could never let herself -or anyone else- forget that.
"I give you greetings from my khalasar and myself. We journey through these lands in peace, and I hope that you do the same."

The cold gaze that the stranger was directing in their direction had Umeko wondering if perhaps Daenerys might be acting too hastily in offering this stranger a greeting. The stiff posture that the stranger held was strange to Umeko. As they closed the distance and then stopped Umeko could feel the stranger's gaze on her, assessing her every move.
At Daenerys's greeting Umeko sighed a little in relief for that cold gaze was no longer directed on her. Now that the stranger was focused on Daenerys Umeko made her own discreet observations. Umeko waited until Dany was finished before stepping forward. Umeko wasn't sure if she should offer her own greeting but decided to do so anyway.
"I offer my salutations to you as well. I am Umeko."

Illyria turned her gaze onto the white mare as she approached. Her icy blue eyes took in the jewelry that she wore before stiffening. At the words from the stranger's mouth though Illyria felt herself relax just a little. Her gaze became less hostile as she riffled through the greeting in her mind. As the purple mare added her own greeting Illyria sighed. The sound was heavy like she had been doing a bit of it. However it didn't sound impatient; just tiring to one who could pick out the difference.
Illyria watched the pair before tucking her wings in as tight to her body as she could. The move served to hide the mark of her royal lineage from view before she took a hesitant step forward.
"Your greetings are pleasantly returned entwined with my own that I freely give to you. I have no ill will to those that do not offer it to me in return. Can you answer me thus though: what is a khalasar?"

Dany smiled a little at the question. It was one that she had answered more times than she could count. Sometimes she considered dropping the foreign term for the familiar one, but a little explanation was not so difficult a task. "A khalasar is a herd," she told the stranger. "There is usually more to it than that, but unfortunately I seem to have misplaced my army." It was a joke that no one would understand but her. It was a little presumptuous of her to call her barely-defended gathering of soquili a khalasar, but she had hope that one day it would grow to fit the name.
"My name is Daenerys Targaryen, the khalasar's khaleesi... or queen." It was funny to her that most locals knew the word queen, but not khaleesi. As far as she could tell, there were no queens in this foreign land either.

Umeko was a patient individual at the most of times. As Daenerys and the strange mare exchanged pleasantries Umeko began to grow a little restless. Here was someone that was not from these parts and she was itching to extend a little of her home herd's hospitality to the stranger but was unsure how to do so. Finally, giving into the urge to do something Umeko quietly turned around and trotted away. She would leave Daenerys and the stranger to talk a little more before she returned.
While she had been cropping grass with the Khaleesi she had noted a patch of wildflowers in the distance. Their splash of color amongst the green grass had been too distinct to miss. Hoping that the stranger liked wildflowers, Umeko made her way to the patch and began to delicately pluck stem and flower from the ground. Maybe she'd have a bunch ready by the time she assumed the stranger and Daenerys were done talking.

Illyria digested the words that Daenerys spoke with a contemplative look on her face. She had never heard these terms before and so it was wise to commit them to memory. Movement from behind Daenerys caught her eye and she watched silently as the purple hued mare moved away from them. Illyria looked to Daenerys once again before rustling her wings a little.
"You say that you are the Khaleesi of this group but yet your subjects take leave without saying a word," here Illyria paused again as she focused on the retreating mare. "I am very confused."
Never before would anyone have attempted such a move back home. The offending subject would have been forfeit to lose their life had they not sought permission to do so. Perhaps this land and its people were more forgiving the coldness found in her own people that reflected the cooler climate of the north.
Thinking of her home once more Illyria's gaze darkened a little. She had had good reason to leave and yet was it possible that she missed the place already?

Daenerys glanced back to where Umeko grazed. She hadn't thought anything of the mare's departure until the stranger mentioned it. If she had spoken in a different tone, Dany might have thought that the mare was trying to mock her by implying she had no control over her subjects. Scanning the stranger's face, she could see that this was not the case. It was honest confusion, not some passive-aggressive jab.
"I have found that this is a culture that relishes freedom of choice and spirit, and this is not something I would take away from those in my care." She smiled at this. It was quite different from what her upbringing had prepared her to expect, but she rather liked the difference. "There is no one that stays by my side without their choosing." Truthfully, she could not force anyone to stay even if she wanted. She had her dragons, yes... but any leadership she had, she had only because the ones she led granted it to her. It was an odd sort of thought.

Umeko had gathered quite a bit of flowers in a neat little pile. Her wings rustled gently against her side as a friendly gust of wind caught passed over her flank. Her head came up as she turned to face the direction that Daenerys and the stranger still stood talking. Umeko sighed softly before realizing that she had still yet to learn the stranger's name. With a delicate care to preserve her offering Umeko gathered up the flowers between her teeth. Although it seemed as if the stranger and Daenerys were still exchanging words Umeko decided it was nigh time that she brought the flowers to the stranger.
Umeko made a small sound as she neared the duo. It was only polite to announce her presence once again. Umeko stepped nearer to the stranger and dropped her bundle of flowers at the mare's feet.
"I do not know whether or not you care for wildflowers but I brought these over for you. I hope that you will enjoy them. By the way welcome to our lands...?" here Umeko paused before glancing swiftly to Daenerys, "I'm sorry I didn't catch your name."

This truly was a strange land. Illyria felt as if the world had turned upside down on her. The mare Daenerys was not like anything that she had expected to find. The explanation that she had given her was unlike anything she'd ever heard before. Apparently this khalasar business was a little more loosely organized than things had been at home. Home had been full of stringent rules and even fiercer punishments for those that refused to follow the rules.
Illyria took to heart what Daenerys had been saying before her gaze caught movement to her side. The reaction to flinch made its way through Illyria's mind before she could help it. She was just still too new to this land to not realize that everything wasn't a threat. Illyria brought her gaze to bear on Umeko. Her expression was briefly shocked before she noticed the flowers at her feet. The shocked expression melted into one of contrite before she cleared her throat. "I apologize for my extreme reaction to your presence Umeko. I do appreciate your gesture," Illyria thought back briefly and realized that she had not given her name to the pair. She gave a soft sound of confusion before sighing. It was not going to remain possible to withhold her name from everyone. "I am sorry; I thought that I'd given my name to you both but it appears that I have failed to do so as of yet. I am known as Illyria."
