It had been extremely hot and dry in the herds lands the past few weeks. Which for Yáviel's herb garden was unfortunate. The whole carefully tended patch was now shriveled, dry and no longer useful. The mare was a little upset about it, having spent many hours carefully tending the herb garden that provided the herd with medicines. With it being so dry they were all expecting fires, nothing they weren't used to, but of you had to deal with smoke sickness without some of those herbs it was no picnic. The mare stomped her hoof as she thought.

After taking a moment to let go of the sadness and switched into "do" mode. Yáviel carefully scanned through the garden and saved any seeds or plants she could before she herself lit the remains of the patch on fire as an offering to the fire god. Quickly she took care of the seeds and two or three plants she salvaged. Yáv shook her long mane as she made up her mind that she absolutely had to go out and track down new herbs. She couldn't let the herd go without those plants. As she set out into the forest Yáviel made up her mind that she should cultivate multiple herb gardens. Not only were they useful but she enjoyed the work.

User ImageKian strode quietly through the forest, a respectful traveler passing through what he could only assume were the lands of a large herd of nature-lovers. There were signs about, of passing and of travel, and everything seemed so well-cared for. He was glad that there were those who looked after the natural world, for although he found the untamed beauty of rugged terrain alluring- it was nice to know that the more delicate plants were nurtured, at least here.

He was reminded of the way he tended his family's needs. The eldest son, valiant protector of his younger siblings. Though all in his family were noble, pure-hearted, and quick to lend aid to those in need, he was the one who cared for those who cared so much for those around them that they often let themselves fall into perilous situations. He was there for them when their honor forbade them from taking flight, but their skill had been outmatched. He was there, the sturdy and reliable protector... but, now, his siblings had grown. As they matured, it became ever more apparent that they needed to experience things on their own to develop their character. His parents understood this, and had shared their wisdom with Kian when he had tried to tail his beloved younger sister on her travels... so, now, he traveled alone, returning to his family home to visit his parents and crossing paths with his siblings on occasion.

He found that he didn't quite know what to do with himself, now. Kind and courteous to all he met, the stallion nonetheless found himself without lasting bonds outside of his own relatives. Perhaps it was because he continued his travels, and so never lingered long enough to forge such deep relationships.

His ears flickered as the sound of delicate hoofsteps pairied with the quiet tinkle of bells came through the forest.
As the brown-and-gold figure came into sight, Kian bowed low- his neck arching to brush the ground as he lowered his eyes in respect.

He treated everyone with equal respect and dignity, until the moment their actions rendered them beneath such courtesy.

The mare was a little too focused on what she was thinking about to hear that she had company. Yáviel stopped abruptly as she saw the stallion, about to speak she stopped again when the stranger bowed to her in greeting. Most visitors were harmless, some ...had other plans, but it was a rare sight to see someone with actual manners. Quickly remembering her own Yáv dipped her head low to the stallion but kept her eyes on him. She didn't get a bad vibe from him but since her brother, the leader of their herd was off checking how their water sources were holding up in this heat she would have to put her task ok hold to play guide. The mare hopped that was all that was needed. Yáviel shook off any dark thoughts and smiled to the stallion.

"Greetings stranger my name is Yáviel and I welcome you to the Goldenleaf heard lands."

Aurelius had taught her well to watch others faces, she used those skills now as she waited for a reply from the stallion. She shifted her weight between her front hooves and swept her hair from her view the best she could.

Gazing calmly at the mare from his lowered position, he began to rise only when she finished her greeting. She had offered her name, and a welcome to what he could only assume were her herd's lands; such were the words of opening for interaction between two beings who may have otherwise only passed by.
Returning her smile with one of his own, he safely stored away her name in memory- safe along with her exact pronunciation and inflection. There were so many accents and languages that subtly altered the Kawani language, he did his best not to accidentally insult anyone by mispronouncing their name and title.

Pale eyes sought gold and held steady as he spoke. "I am Kian." Gold and natural brown; he could guess why the herd was dubbed Goldenleaf.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Yáviel." If any other stallion had spoken that phrase with such care, it may have sounded stiff, but his smooth and rich voice showed genuine truth to lay behind those words.

The mare gave a bright and genuine smile. Yáv dipped her head again slightly, sending a tinkling of bells as she did so. " It is truly a delight Kian" She looked over the stallion carefully, he was quite handsome, something she was at times wary of. However his tone and the way he carried himself led her to believe right away that he was a gentleman. Yáviel relaxed a bit more as she continued to speak. " Have you visited before? Or is there anything I might assist you with?". The mare had to let out a gentle puff of air as her tiny glowing friends floated in front of her eyes.

He blinked once, a little dazzled by the mare's easy smile and polished manners. Recovering his equilibrium quickly, he returned her smile in kind. "I have never before visited the Goldeleaf herd lands..." he may have past near here before, but he would have remembered such a bountiful area.
"I am in need of no assistance, thank you kindly for your offer." It was true, though he lamented it slightly... would she leave, now that she knew he needed no aid? He was a little lonely, 'twas true, but he did not require assistance from the golden-eyed mare. He was rather self-sufficient, completely used to being the one other's relied on; it was possible that, even if he did need help, he would not request aid.
"Might you require anything?" Perhaps she needed a sturdy back, or keen eyes, or anything else he might be able to offer her. He had skills aplenty, and enjoyed putting them to good use.

The mare smiled easily as Kian explained to her than her had not been to the Goldenleaf herd lands. She began to think of a quick explanation to describe to him the boundaries of their lands. Yáviel felt she could trust this mare so she would send him off to explore by himself if he wished.

Yáviel stopped her creation of a mental map of the herd lands when the stallion said he didn't need any assistance, but asked her instead if he could help her with anything. It's wasn't often she got a genuine offer of help. "Well...I'm off to look for new herbs for the gardens. The heat has taken its toll on them unfortunately. I wouldn't mind the company and extra set of eyes." Yáviel smiled brightly again and waited to see if that might interest him. Her little swarm of fireflies drifted lazily around her as she stood there.

A broad grin met her bright smile, and he nodded once- eager to please. His mother had a fondness for flowers, and often tended the foliage near their meadow home. He had learned a thing or two about a plant's needs, especially how to care for the particularly delicate flora around his childhood home. However, back home there was a gentle morning dew that combated the summer heat, and the mountain-fed stream that winded through the valley offered easy access to freshwater if any plant seemed unusually dry. Though transporting water from the stream to the plants was a rather daunting task, the thin fabrics that Persephone and her brood often carried did the trick nicely- tending the natural world made easier by the inventions of the two-legged. Moreso, his mother tended the plants wherever they chose to rest- she created no 'gardens' of her own.
This lovely mare offered a task with familiar strands, yet with an unusual flare in an unfamiliar area- an opportunity to learn, as much as to help. "I would be honored to accompany you, and to help you find the herbs you seek."
Now... if only he knew what those herbs looked like. He cast a glance at a nearby low-lying plant, and then looked at her expectantly. He would train his sharp eyes to the particular herbs she sought, with her aid. His exuberance was not from a desire to rush through the task- quite the contrary, he wished only to help and spend as much time as he was able with this intriguing mare.

" Wonderful!" Yáviel wasted no time in beginning her task. "Company always makes chores go faster." She beamed at Kian again as she began to move. The mare traveled over to a clump of tree's where she pulled a woven bag down from a limb. " Sometimes the herd does some trading with the two leggers." Yáv supplemented as she gathered the bag up and began to slowly and methodically walk looking for herbs they needed. For the first time she could remember she wished she didn't have something important to do for the herd so she could take the stallion on a stroll through the herd lands. The heat may be getting to some areas but the lands in which the Goldenleaf's called home were still beautiful.

As she walked she began to rattle off the names and attributes of plants they needed to look for. Stopping for a second she looked over to Kian, the bells in her hair tinkling as she moved. " Pardon my rudeness, I never asked from where you are from." Yáviel only roamed with her eyes as she waited to see what her new friend was going to say.

He nodded to confirm her claim, a gentle smile still lingering on his handsome features. Some chores seemed to drag endlessly on, where others were a quiet respite from an overactive mind. Company, always, was most welcome.
He watched her retrieve the woven bag, admiring her ingenuity in hiding place; low enough that it was still convenient, yet high enough that it could not be easily.... 'commandeered'. Curiosity got the better of him as he inquired, "In exchange for things that one cannot find in the natural world?" A bold question, perhaps, but one that he thought was not without merit.

Watching her carefully, he followed the direction of her gaze and waited for when they would happen upon something of interest. He silently matched plants on his 'side' of the path to those she passed over, making a quiet list of those that were not of present interest to this mare.
"A land not far from here, though far enough away that trips home are rather long." he smiled, "It has no name, yet all of my family call it Home. A quiet meadow, forest, stream- little hidden glades and valleys, blooming with life and love." he stopped, wondering perhaps if he painted a too-poetic picture of his home; but, then, that was what lay in his heart- a deep, abiding love of nature and especially of those familiar glades.
He wondered quietly for some time at his next though- a sudden desire to share his homelands with this mare, who would certainly appreciate their warm and welcoming beauty.

"And you? Have you always been among the Goldenleaf herd-lands? "

A brisk breeze swept through the wooded area, sending the bells in her hair dancing. Yáviel's fireflies danced in a dizzying swirl above her head. The mare eyed them to make sure they were alright before she considered answering Kian's question. "Yes, sometimes we trade things that our hooved brethren could not find or make in the natural world. It took my family some time to cultivate a relationship that was mutual to both."

Yáviel kept moving in a methodical manner as she looked for specific herbs and plants she needed. However as she listened to Kian describe his homeland to her she stopped, golden eyes watching with rapt attention."Your home sounds....enchanting." the mare said in a quiet admiring voice. Yáviel's cheeks began to heat and she looked down slightly, her hair falling in a curtain -what was this....this feeling?- Yáviel's stomach felt like IT was full of fireflies.

Quickly she cleared her throat and looked up at Kian with a smile. "I'm sad to say that I have not traveled outside of our herd lands....but...maybe one day I might accompany you there?" her cheeks began to warm again but she steeled her nerves and kept her head up.

He smiled once more, a rather serene expression flitting across his face at the now-familiar twinkle of her bells; such a pleasant sound.
Following her line of vision, he watched the fireflies dance around her like courtiers attending their queen- or, perhaps, their heart and care-taker in one. Turning back to the lovely mare at his side, he listened respectfully and nodded to confirm.

"I see; thank you, it is quite a rare feat it seems- I commend your family on the cultivation of such a bond." There were many two-leggeds about who loved to preen and pet, to fashion trinkets- such as those his family wore- and yet something more long-term was truly special.
Like everything about this mare, it seemed.

He was not rendering judgment, merely observing... for, in truth, some things are so simple that all could see.
He smiled at her compliment of her home. "It is...." As she looked down, he peeked at her in concern, and yet before long she was clearing her throat and smiling again; he let the moment pass, reassured that she was quite alright and perhaps needed a moment to herself.

"It would be my honor to show you my homeland." His deep voice, warm and rich, warmed more with his smile. It seemed to come so freely, with her near.
Turning his eyes back to the task at hand with a silent moment of internal self-abasement, he looked about for the almost-forgotten herb they had been searching for. Her eyes had been on him, and so he had received no further clues as to what he was looking for. "Forgive me... this herb which we seek, would you mind terribly describing it for me?" He wished to show that he had not forgotten the task he had offered to assist her with, for all of his mental wanderings.
She was quite the inspiring individual.
