Coy Mathis, aged six, was recently barred from using the girl's restroom at her school. She has been a female-identifying individual since the age of eighteen months and all teachers and students refer to her by female pronouns. However, the school informed the parents of Coy Mathis that she would no longer be allowed to use the girl's restroom because of what was on her birth certificate.

Coy Mathis' parents took her out of school and filed a complaint to the Colorado Civil Rights Division. The dispute ended in Coy Mathis' favor and Coy was allowed to return to school and was given permissions to use the restroom of her identifying gender.

This significant victory in Coy Mathis' favor means protection for all trans* students in Colorado public schools.
