Shouldn't you be taking it easy?
"Eh, I can sleep when I'm dead. And it's not like there's stitches or anything I have to worry about tearing." C'ross stretched, arms hooked over his head and fingers interlaced, then leaned down to double-check the bandage wrapped around his leg. It was clean and freshly changed, and the scratches beneath hardly hurt anymore after a second round of cleaning and numbweed.
It was something of a habit of C'ross', whenever he had the time in his schedule: he liked to take a morning run around the Weyrbowl to loosen up and help him focus. This time it was more of a sedate jog, with Nimith trotting next to him. Until he learned more about the limitations of his dragon's stamina, he wasn't going to go too far or too fast. He didn't want to strain the young dragon's muscles, but at the same time, getting out and stretching his legs could only be good for a developing young animal. If need be, he could probably manage to carry Nimith back to their weyr with some difficulty, and C'ross intended to take advantage of that while Nimith was still small enough to make that an option.
You aren't carrying me anywhere, Nimith objected obstinately, and C'ross chuckled.
"Only if I think you might hurt yourself."
In that case, I get to carry you if you hurt yourself first. I'm not the one with a history of getting injured.
It was still early enough in the morning that it was before breakfast for the two of them, and while it was light enough out to see clearly, the heat of the day hadn't really hit with its usual force yet. The time of day that C'ross liked best, and thus he was in a rather better mood than usual. Good enough to banter teasingly with his dragon, if nothing else.

Mine must you insist we be up so early? Devith groaned stretching out like a large lazy cat on the sand by the lake reclining as he rider scrambled up his leg to get at the joints of his wings with her oil slick towel. After all while Devith might complain about how early it was he certainly was never against being oiled. It simply wouldn't due for him not to look his best with all the new weyrlings running around.
"Well if we got down here around the time you like to get up Devith this beach would be swarming with dragons." Hekate teased a sleepy little chirrup of agreement coming from Pauper her little gold who was curled tight around her neck. Only she and Hekate's ever watchful brown, Baron, had bothered to get up and come down to the lake alongside their mistress. Even so Pauper was all, but nearly asleep and even Baron was nodding off a bit where he sat perched on Devith's headknobs.
Frankly Devith didn't see the problem with having more dragons around to admire him, but he knew how funny his rider was about cramped and crowded spaces so he left it be. Instead one green and blue eye picked of the sight of movement as he crooned out a low greeting to the approaching pair.
Mine. One of the new little ones and His are approaching. He rumbled to his rider nearly causing Hekate to sleep as she half turned to glance over her shoulder offering a wave to C'ross and Nimith.
Welcome little one. Come to enjoy the morning air? Why don't you and yours join us? Devith crooned to the young blue his tone chipper if somewhat drowsy still with sleep.
