Black eyes peered through the darkness as the stallion rested. Steam flared from frost-covered nostrils before dissipating, causing some of the frozen crystals to melt and reappear with a large inward breath. A small groan of fatigue was ejected along with another watery cloud. He'd traveled a long way in this day, and he'd scoured the land for his prey. It was times such as this which he missed Etnel most. She would give him a caring smile and bring him some herbs to ease the dull aching in his bones.
Without any water nearby, bent his neck down and gathered some undisturbed snow in his mouth. His eyes searched the darkness once more, for something, anything. A hunger panged his stomach and he grumbled before taking another mouthful of snow. Small animals skittered about, but no small game would do. He longed for a bundle of rabbits or a lean, juicy deer. For a few moments, he made a hunting plan in his mind before sniffing the air for prey.
