Mission 1:
The sun rises over a village of Hoffhut slowly as birdsong rouse the sleeping adventurers. It was early in the winter season when the traveling adventurers found the village of four- or five-hundred souls nestled in the hills. The adventurers have all lived long enough to know that traveling through snow and sleet for several months with nowhere specific to go is a good way to die of hypothermia, or at least murder one's enthusiasm for traveling, so they opted to instead stay in the community. It was certainly... something. While the local guards weren't anything special to write home about, they were generally rather nice and the stay over the several months was pleasant. For one reason or another, such as wanting something productive to do, simple need for coin or wanting to keep their skills sharp, the three adventurers had opted to join the town's guards to help patrol the area.
There were the occasional goblins or wolves getting a little too close to people's homes for comfort, but usually it was more about escorting a drunken lout home after a night of drinking from the local inn than about slaughtering some nefarious group of bandits.
However, times were rather tough for the town. A bad growing season for the local farmers had left the village unsure if it had enough food for the winter. As time passed with the season, it became clear that it wasn't enough. The town worked hard and scraped up most of their spare coin and savings and used it to buy a few more weeks of food, enough to last them until a good thaw when they could start planting again.
And on that cheery note, we'll begin our adventure.

CURRENT PLAYERS: Sir Krovak - Daedalus Kombinant - Kel'Dann Jacior - Balniris
Notable NPCs:
Elly Katarine, Female Halfling mayor. Pretty, if a bit of a flirt. D'marcus Keton, Male Human. owner of the local inn "The Bloody Knuckles" Grom Stormhammer of Blackfells, Male Dwarf. Owner of the local Blacksmith. Old, crabby, and blind in one eye. Raimon Mutaro, Male Human. Captain of the Town Guards. Father Digsby, Male Human. Elderly Priest of Abadar, the local temple. Likes kids and hard candy. "Xessus' Mother", Female Samsaran. Scary as all ******** (if the rumors are to be believed. Not one of the adventurers, in the several months of living in the town, has any evidence to actually prove she exists). That is all.
Through your travels, you should (hopefully) make some friends as traveling companions or at least as contacts. In general, you will only be able to have 1 NPC companion at a time.
Xessus Silvari [Witch], Male Samsaran. Creepy as all ********. Also, a witch, which might have to do with the Creepy part. Vylsok Silvari [Cavalier of the Dragon Order], Female Changling. The only girl in the town guards. She's cute, shy, and very helpful, having to frequently assist Xessus in many of his rather suspect remedies and recipes. Bansky of H'rongth [Barbarian], Male Half-orc. One of the town guards. He speaks loudly and carries a large axe. Has anger issues, and likes to vent them out by working for the town guard. Mortimer Haragam [Fighter], Male Human. Another of the town guards. He speaks quietly and likes to play cards and complain. Frequently is the cause of Bansky's rage outbreaks. Joana Paradino [Cleric], Female Half-Elf. Priestess-in-training for the temple. Dislikes children (and Xessus).

Jacior After double-checking the keg full of explosive material, he stepped out of his room into the main part of the house, heading for the kitchen. Moving down the hallway to the kitchen/dining area, the air here seems oppressively heavy and foul in some spots. There are several things on separate fires, and Xessus is stirring his cauldron while adding in something that Balniris has long since learned not to ask about. He's muttering to himself and consulting a book as he mixes in his mystery ingredients, his pet (disturbingly large) centipede "Booker C" is currently marking his place, as his hands are busy.
Vylsok is also attending to some things on the fire, wearing a hair bandana and an apron, she waves with a spatula at the gunslinger when she sees him. After a few moments, she slides over a bowl of what looks like a bowl of noodles with pork slices, egg and spinach over to him. She smiles as she plops down a bowl for herself and sits down for breakfast, saying "My elder brother wanted to try and cook breakfast. I thought it'd be best to preempt him before he poisons someone on accident." Xessus' cauldron lets out a small burst of green and black fire as he adds in what looks like pickled wings of... something. Vylsok sigh and adds "On accident again. I'm still getting dirty looks from Joana about the last time Bansky tried some of my lunch and ended up vomiting blood."
Adding some soy sauce to her noodle soup, she says "His stuff tastes fine to me, but I guess it's an acquired taste like head cheese or durian."
Looking past Vy, Balniris can see that Xessus' long wooden spoon that he was using to stir catches on fire when he pulls it out of the 'Soup'. Staring at it while his sister slurps some noodles, he's seen trying to blow out the fire a bit before looking around and putting it into a barrel of water. When he pulls the spoon out, it lights on fire again, and he opts to toss the utensil into the fires below the cauldron. Pulling out a ladle, he fills a wooden bowl with it and carries it over to the table, saying quietly "Soup's about as ready as it's going to get." Vy gets a spoonful and tries it, saying "It's not bad, but I think it could use a little chili sauce." Xessus replies "I think it's hot enough as-is. Would you like some, Balniris? It's good for the soul and it'll keep you warm today."

Heading back into the bar, Daedalus slithers in next to a seat next to Kel'Dann, who's occupied with nomming on eggs, and orders his own breakfast. While D'marcus is busy cooking it up, Mayor Katarine makes her way into the bar and looks around. Spotting the ranger and alchemist, she makes her way over and greets them, saying "Goooooood morning, you two~" Her syrupy voice was always nice to hear, and both men found her rather attractive, albeit a little short, considering she was a halfing. She rarely has problems getting boys attention though, today being little exception. Continuing, she says "Are either of you busy today? I was wondering if you two strapping young men could help the town out a little."
Listening in as she climbs on top of another stool, she explains "A week ago, we went and ordered a shipment of food from a neighboring village to help string the village along until we could start planting crops, and it should be arriving today. I've sent some runners to go make sure everything's alright, but I haven't heard back from them. Captain Raimon was saying that he had a bad feeling because of increased suspicious activity in the area, and I've learned that it's usually a good thing to trust him on such matters. So I was hoping you two would be willing to go and help make sure everything's alright with the food wagons. It'd be... well, very not good if something were to happen to them. Think you two would be up for it? Raimon is going to go see if he can get some other people to go out as well, but I'd feel a lot better if I had you two to go along. Pretty please~?"

"Sure thing, Mayor!" Kel'Dann says quickly after the mayor finishes. "It'd be no trouble at all to help you out, besides it could be quite fun! Not to be insulting to your lovely village but a break in the monotomy of helping the town guards will be a welcome change." Pushing the remains of his breakfast away, he stands. "When do we leave?"
