This thread is for a monthly contest we've decided to organize. The goal of this event is to keep your imagination in tip-top shape and pad your gaia wallets at the same time. Every month this thread will appear with a new prompt and members will be able to write a short story using that prompt in order to win gold or other prizes. Entries will be judged by the guild crew and myself. Winner of this month's contest will receive... 4,000 gaia gold!Remember, quality is accepted over quantity but the main idea is to have some fun with it! Quote: This month's prompt (#15) is...
Prompt #15
It’s a magical time of the year, isn’t that what they say? What if your character’s Christmas wish came true, only they don’t find out until the New Year? On the morning of the New Year, when the sun is just rising, your character finds out that something has changed noticeably about them. This is something that could very well change their whole life or the lives of those around them. Did they get something in the mail? Have they transformed somehow? Did they have some sort of encounter in the previous year that’s making itself apparent now? Maybe they’re not even in their own world anymore! Either way, their New Year is going to have a beginning as colourful as that first sunrise. From this point forward, your character is going to be affected by their Christmas wish. Tell us in a short story how, what, why, when and where and try to make it a memorable one!
All entries must be posted here in this thread by 2/1/14 or February 1st, 2014.Meyaira Firespring Oh, I thought of something else that could deter entries. The deadline of 02/01/13 means the 2nd of January 2013 to most of us Aussies, since that's how we write our dates. That's what I thought when I saw it.) With MF's correction pointed out to me, I fixed the date for just such cases. I apologize for being ignorant of such things, I wrote the date the way I learned it as month/date/year. xD

Ever since Kat was a kid, she had been a dreamer. She loved reading stories about magical creatures and amazing adventures. She daydreamed everyday, sometimes all day. And on occasion she would read stories online about someone realizing they were this magical creature. Now, she knew the difference between real and fake, but that didn't stop her from creating her own little world. Until she was twelve, Kat pretended she was a shape shifter. She would sneak into her backyard at night and run around, roaring like a tiger, and hopping everywhere. At one point, her parent's had to install a lock on her door to keep her in her room at night. Her imagination had gotten so bad. But finally, when the young girl hit twelve years old, she grew out of her oversized imagination. It was still there, but her imaginary world had faded, and she didn't wish she was a tiger anymore. She grew up. In exchange for her imaginary world, she took up writing. She would write everyday. Amazing stories of these magical adventures. She got so good, she won a gold medal in a contest she entered. But the day she found out she was pregnant, she just quit all of that. She had to be mature enough to care for a baby. She had to be an adult. Even if she was only sixteen. She was going to prove to everyone she could do it. She could raise a healthy, beautiful baby. Even if it meant putting her life on hold. So she took all precautions to make sure her pregnancy was healthy, and she carried full term. She took prenatal vitamins, went to routine check-ups, didn't stress over anything, and never lifted anything heavy. She was great during her pregnancy. The first time she noticed them, she thought they were just stretch marks. She had just recently started showing, and she knew she stretch marks would show. So when little dashes appeared along the bottom of her belly, that's what she thought they were. Until they weren't. The dashes started to turn into swirls when she hit her six month mark. And whenever she went to the doctor, they just shrugged it off. Saying the body does strange things when creating a life. So eventually she learned to ignore the strange marks. But within a month, the swirls connected and became a pattern. A pattern of connected rings, covering her whole body. The doctors were baffled. They had no idea what had happened. But again, they blamed it on the human body and it's wonders. As the swirls got larger, and the pattern spread father along her stomach, Kat's mood changed. She became depressed, withdrawn. She started to hate the child growing in her. She just wanted him out of her life. And a chilling thought passed through her at one point. Her unborn son should die. And then the weather started to change. It got violent, Different storms happening every hour almost. Thunder storms, snow storms, and hail storms. One after another. The people in the city began to panic. It seemed like the start of the apocalypse. People went crazy. They started fights while trying to grocery shop. And in all the panic, the stress and her current mood, Kat went into labor at only seven months along. She rushed to the hospital, where the marks on her stomach started glowing. For a few minutes, everyone just stared in wonder. Even Kat. Nothing like it had ever been seen. And then the pain started. It was nothing like Kat had ever experienced. From everything she had ever read, seen, or heard about, contractions were not suppose to be that painful. So immediately, Kat knew something wrong. And when Kat died, the doctors knew to. They sprang into action. They cut her belly open, and delivered the baby. And then used the defibrillator on her. They wouldn't let her died. Within three minutes of the girl dying, she was gasping for air, and murmuring things to herself. He can't live. Abomination. He will kill us all. Doom. Die. Must be killed. Apocalypse. Never meant to be born. The doctors were unsure of what she meant, but left her to recover while they took the baby away to assess his condition. He was a premature baby. They had a battery of tests to go through to make sure he would live. - - - - - "When will the girl wake up?" "Whenever she chooses." "She's been in a coma for almost a month. She should have been awake by now." "Sometimes, things don't work out the way we think it will. Look at her child. He was born two months early, and he is healthy. Almost like he was full term." "Yes, how is that possible? He's almost eight pounds. It's unnatural." "Unnatural, yes. But a miracle." - - - - - BREAKING NEWS: This just in! The mother of newborn Gabriel, has awoken from her month long coma. But sources say, when she was left alone with the baby, she proceeded to murder him while he slept. When the doctors returned to check on her and her child, the baby was dead on her bed, and Kat was huddled in a corner muttering to herself about how she had to do it. How he was going to bring disaster and death. That she would have been punished if she had not done it. She was doing it for the good of mankind.
The sixteen year old girl is currently is currently being held at the local police station awaiting questioning. The cause for the mothers sudden rage that ultimately caused her to kill her child is unknown. All we know, is that she should be brought to justice, and the poor child should never had died.
Gabriel's father is taking over the planning of his sons funeral, and he is mourning with family. He had nothing to say on the subject other than, why?
And that is the exact question everyone in america is asking.
Why would a young mother kill her newborn child?

January 2013 The prompt (#1) is...Your character has gone into labour earlier than the doctors had predicted the due date. Not only that, something strange seems to be happening to their body. Alien lines and symbols are starting to appear across their belly and to make matters worse a freak weather event has just been broadcast for your area. It could be a storm, a hailstorm, a cyclone, a meteor shower…even a monsoon or a heatwave. How does this affect your character/s and what could these strange symbols and weird weather mean? Tell us in 2,500 words (or a page or so) or less! January 2013 WINNER Inia moaned and rubbed her belly slowly, trying to help calm the squirming life inside. “Wh-why me.” she panted, her legs wobbling as she stood at her door. Seven months ago she had agreed to carry her best friends baby, her friend Amia and her husband Hiron being unable to conceive for an 'unknown' reason. She had some suspicions when they continued to dance around the subject when it came up but after some time she did agree. Things got weirder when pale white lines slowly grew out from her belly button much like a plant. When she questioned her friends again they avoided it as well, saying it was natural. And now, at month seven, she was in labor. Inia slammed her hand on her door frame. “******** you!” She yelled. A pile of snow fell down from her roof and landed on her pouch with a loud thud. It had been snowing for four days straight. At first it seemed like nothing since it was a light snow and would have melted the next day. But it never stopped snowing, it just kept coming and piling up. Inia leaned over and rubbed her belly, gritting her teeth as a contraction passed over her. “I'll walk there my self.” She grumbled before heading into her house, shutting the door behind her. Inia waddled to her closet, stopping once to catch her breath. The door to her closet swung open at the flick of her arm. Her eyes looking through her closet. “brat, hold your damn h-horse.” Inia moaned, gripping the closet door at another contraction. “We need to get to there before you come out.” Inia grabbed her heavy jacket and put it on, grunting some as it squeezed her belly slightly. “N-not helping.” She panted, sweat starting to bead on her face. Once out side Inia let out a grunt with each step, the snow was up to her belly. “I-if only, I had, heat vision.” She grunted. She stopped for a contraction. “No, I'm not having you in the snow.” She said, gasping as she felt the baby kick around. “I said no!” She shouted before continuing to her car. She had to do some digging but she managed to get the door open and got in. She panted and rubbed her belly for a minute before pulling her gloves off to dig her keys out of her pocket. Her eyes went wide as she saw white lines on her hands. Pulling open her jacket she found the lines every where on her belly and chest. “what is going on!” She closed her jacket again, her car not even on to keep her warm. The car let out a honk as Inias head hit the horn. “what was I thinking.” She mumbled. “I can't drive in this weather! Heck my car might not even start.” She sighed and leaned back. Her eyes growing heavy. She jumped slightly, a contraction keeping her from falling asleep. “no, the cold is no place for a nap.” She said, pushing her door open and being greeted by a gust of cold wind. “I'm, walking.” She let out a snort of determination as she started her trudge through the snow. “Dear, when do you think the baby will be here?” Amia said, she was sitting on a couch in the living room, watching the weather. Hiron was sitting next to her and shrugged. “it's bound to be soon, it hasn't stopped snowing for days, Inias bound to go into labor any day now.” he replied. Hiron lifted his head some as he hear a knock on the door. “I'll get it.” He said, grunting as he got up from the couch. He walked over to the door and opened it. “Hell-”His words were cut off by a pair of hands wrapping around his neck. “WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME!” Yelled a snow covered Inia. After a lengthy explanation from Hiron he bowed apologetically to Inia. “And, that's the whole story.” Hiron Said. Inia sat across from them, her hands tapping her belly. She winced as she sat up. “I'm having the baby here.” She stated. The couple jumped slightly. “um, we can get you to a hospital.” Amia said, going over to help Inia off the couch. “no.” Said the unmoved Inia. She turned and laid down on her back. “It's too late, right here.” She said, wincing again and moaning. “W-we'd never make it there in time any way.” She laughed some before screaming in pain. “O-oh g-god, th-the pain is back.” She moaned, having been distracted the last few contractions. It would be hours before the baby was born. In that time Inia would scream, moan, push and choke. Not letting Hiron get away with what he had done. After hours of pain and choking the baby was born. The little girl let out a cry as she squirmed, her body pale and her little wavy hair white as snow. Amia was the first to hold her, but she was reluctantly handed off to her mother Inia. Inia took her and smiled, panting some and looking to Amia. “I-is she really mine?” Inia asked, Amia nodding. “Yeah, She wasn't ours in the first place so, we can't take her from you.” She said, a bit sad. “but, at least now we can have our own baby.” Amia smiled and hugged Hirons arm, causing him to flinch slightly. Inia smiled and looked to the little girl nuzzled against her chest, nursing on her mothers warm milk. “th, thank you.” She mumbled, kissing her daughter's forehead.

“...And the heatwave continues today, making the lives of our local farmers harder and harder.Today it is going to reach a high of 37 degrees.” Rupert Brisbane reached over and turned off the radio. Its been close to a month, still no rain. He thought. Sighing he went back to cooking breakfast for he and his wife. He added a tablespoon of oil to a pan. as he was cooking he looked onto his dusty field. With the wells running dry, he had little choice in losing the crop. While he had before, this time it was different. It wasn’t just she and him. nearly eight months ago, Farah had told him she was pregnant. Farah kept herself in shape, though with all of the work on the farm, in her condition she couldn’t handle it all. Despite the fact, she always pushed herself. He had to smile though, he was happy to have married her, no matter the fact. Though, would he be able to provide for his child? Only if it were to rain, soon.
Farah normally would have risen early with her husband, but yesterday she had worked herself to exhaustion. Her dark eyes fluttering open and her nose smelling the sweet smell of syrup she only could smile. She rose and stretched, then a hand went to her swollen belly, rubbing it slowly. After doing her business in the bathroom she checked her growth in the full length mirror. Her belly grew every day as the child within developed further. Waddling her way downstairs, she entered the steamy kitchen where Rupert was cooking pancakes and fluffy eggs.
“Good Morning honey” Farah said, sitting down on a creaky wooden chair. Her husband set a plate infront of her. Digging in to the pancakes, she savoured the sweet flavour of the syrup mingling mingling on her tongue. Rupert gave her a happy nod and got his own breakfast.
“Another day of this heatwave, I’ve got to go start the pumps up again” Said he digging in to the food. He thought of his wife, now a mother. He was saddened slightly that he failed her, least not yet. “You’ll be running to town to pick up the new fuel?” Farah nodded as she wolfed down another forkful. He finished his breakfast and went out to the water pumps. After Farah finished her own breakfast and cleaned the dishes, she made her way down to the garage where the tanker lay. The truck’s engine roared to life as she turned the key. The petrol station lay a few kilometres to the south, her destination. Turning onto the main road, she flipped on the radio. The short drive passed quickly as Farah hummed a song turning into the station she parked the truck near a pump. As she filled the truck’s tank. Her child started kicking her repeatedly. “Hey, calm down little one” She said trying to calm it. It kicked harder. As she finished filling the tank. She got back in the cab, though suddenly she felt extremely lightheaded. She suddenly fainted her head hitting the horn now blaring loudly. Tom one of the attendants heard the horn’s whine and went out to check out the source. Noticing the unconscious woman, he tried to rouse her. “Ms. Brisbane?” He tried shaking her. Nothing happened. On his two-way he called his partner to get In contact with Rupert to meet him at the local hospital, he was going to take her just to make sure she were alright.
Farah woke under white lights. Her eyes opening slowly she rose. She looked around the small room she was in. The walls were white and a sturdy bookcase lay next to her.
“Good your awake Ms. Brisbane.” Farah’s turned her head to look into the eyes of a kind doctor.
“What happened?” She enquired. No longer did she wear her jeans and shirt. Her belly lay naked, with rather strange marks on it. She had seen dark spots on her belly before, however this was different. The spots were forming almost words by the look of them abeit not in any language that she could understand. Those spots moved, and they kept moving constantly shifting and changing.
“You fainted, and some kind people brought you here. Your husband should be here soon as well.” He stated. I think the smell of the fuel got to me. As the were in her thought she felt a sudden pain in her abdomen. It wasn’t her child kicking, more like a contraction. She had contractions before though, but nothing like this. The pain kept rising, It felt as if she were in labour! I’m not due for at least another two weeks! The doctor quickly went to a phone and called for assistance. Two nurses appeared and shuffled the woman to the maternity ward, least just for a check.
Rupert’s truck could not drive fast enough to the hospital. After getting the call that she had collapsed, he had stopped everything and went. When he pulled up, a nurse awaited him. Motioning him, she explained everything. “Mr. Brisbane, glad you arrived. Farah went into labour just an hour ago.” The pair made their way through the winding hallway to where his wife lay. Hopefully she would be alright. Farah had never been in so much pain. Despite the epidurals and the comforting hand of her husband, she could not take it. With one final push. The baby was out. Rupert looked at the newborn with pride. A baby boy lay in the folds of a soft blanket. Sadness filled his heart though as he looked at the babe. He did not breath, nor cry. A flash of light nearly blinded all of the people in the room, followed by a crash of thunder. Rupert looked outside as torrents of rain fell from the sky. As he looked to the falling rain, Another sound pierced his ear. The shrill cry of his son, awaked by the storm...

February 2013 This months prompt (#2) is... heart *Special* Valentine’s Day Prompt: heart Your character(s) have come in the front door of their home to find it’s been transformed! Ribbons and small posies of flowers are tied around here and there and a perfumed trail of scattered rose petals leads away from the front door. When they follow the to another part of the house, they see more rose petals scattered about, ending in a heart shape and surrounded by decorative lit candles. There’s a note beside a box of what looks like carefully handmade chocolates, a bottle of fine beverage and a large bouquet of roses. Hidden within the bouquet of roses is a package or a box of some kind that, astonishingly, appears to be glowing with a soft pink light! What does the note say? What happens if your character decides to try and eat some of the chocolates or take a drink of the beverage? Who is all of this from? Is it for your character or someone else? And whatever could be that package with the glowing pink light?
Tell us a sweet story of fun and romance, or share some surprises, in 2,500words or about a page (or less). February 2013 WINNER They say love comes in all shapes and sizes; they say love comes from within, from the heart, but really, I didn’t believe that love is worth all the s**t people give it credit for, rather, I find it disgusting. Disgusting. It always left a bitter after taste in my mouth. Oh god, the feeling makes me want to vomit, even now as I’m recalling the story.
But, when I was at the young, tender age of sixteen, I met the most wonderful man on the planet, the most wonderful man who took interest in me, ME, of all the people, he liked me. I am nothing special, actually, I am quite mundane. There is nothing special, no, I am not trying to be humble. I look quite simple really: short brown hair, brown eyes, fair skinned with freckles everywhere around my body, and a non-exciting female body. Really, like, not lascivious at all. I was like a ruler, no boobs, no butt, no shape to my body. I was ambiguous, no one really knew my gender until they looked at my genitals. Yeah, it was that bad. Yet, he was so perfect! He was the embodiment of perfection; with his golden blonde hair, the color of wheat in the sun; his sparkling eyes, which made the rainbows frown in envy; a gorgeous build, with just enough muscle to his boy-next-door charm; however, it was his smile that made all of the other girls swoon out of their panties.
The day he confessed, to loving me ever since he first laid eyes on my person, was a day like any other. I always have to stay after school because I had to tutor the retards in my class, to think I actually volunteered myself to do the job as a freshman. God, I’m stupid. Seriously, who volunteers their time to help other people? I have a life, you know. Just kidding, I have no semblance of a social life in me. It was probably like, four or maybe five in the afternoon and already getting dark, everyone already evacuated the personal hell for the living named school. It was overcast, it was drizzling little pieces of rain water. <********,” I whispered to myself as I held the my goddamn math book about my head, because who cares about math, right? I was ready to run out and brave the drizzle, when it started pouring. Rain everywhere. Just my luck. I was stuck at the entrance until the rain subsided a bit.
“Stuck here, too?” a voice chimed beside me, I was taken aback. I didn’t think there was anyone else in this area of the school, but me. I turned to look to my side, and there he was, in all of his perfection, not even the statue of Adonis could compare to his beauty. Oh god, there goes my ovaries. His blonde hair was wet, and sticking in weird places on his head, but I would still make out with his face. He looked like he braved the weather too, except, he actually got caught in it, while I stood idly, and awkwardly trying to see why His Royal Hotness was even acknowledging my existence. He was talking to me! ‘Don’t be awk, don’t be awk, don’t be--’ I thought to myself, but suddenly, the words were meant for me alone escaped my lips.
“No, I’m just waiting for Jesus to show up and clear the weather for me,” I said with biting sarcasm. I wanted to slap my face so hard, I could have just said ‘yeah, I am,’ and introduced myself and then the rain would stop, and we would ride off into the sunset on my bicycle. But, I botched it up, and now I have destroyed my only chances of speaking with this amazing man. I snuck a glance in his direction and there he was, laughing silently to himself.
“You’re funny,” he pointed out, giving me a pat on the back. “You don’t really hear those replies everyday,” Mr. Perfect guffawed out loud.
“Ah, thanks?” I tried to look for the proper answer in my head, but I couldn’t. The sound of his laugh fried my brainwaves. In a few moments, the rain subsided back down to its drizzle form, and I waited for him to leave. He did eventually, after fishing his car keys out of his pocket.
“You want a ride, Peters?” He turned to me, blue eyes sparkling even without sun. I wanted to melt right there and then. He knew my surname. HE KNEW IT. My knees felt like jelly. I nodded because words would not leave my mouth for once. This memory happened over half a year ago. It was the beginning of the end.
On Valentine’s Day would be our first month together. I was excited. You see, we were casually hooking up before he popped the question, and popped my cherry along with it too. I was officially his girlfriend now, he wanted to show me off to his friends, but being the person I am, I refused. I already get enough contumely behind my back, I didn’t need it to my face as well.
I came home one day and was greeted by my house adorned with Valentine’s magic. It was all over the front door, ya know? The flowers and s**t. My mom was going to have a conniption when she saw this. The doorway leading to the inside of the house was covered in rose petals. I was getting so damn excited when I entered, I was greeted by the heavily perfumed scent of my hallway, so many scents of flowers intermingled and assaulted my nose. It almost made me want to puke. I followed it anyway, and there it was in my living room. It was now decorated lavishly, a heart in the middle made up of rose petals and surrounded by vanilla scented candles. I was so giddy, I could hardly contain a giggle.
In the middle of the heart, there were a bouquet of roses, white wine and chocolates, the wine I could do without, but everything was so beautifully made! I felt so lucky to have such a wonderful boyfriend. I could feel a smile spreading across my face. It felt so good having someone who cared enough to be so sweet.
Then, I noticed the faint glow from within the roses, so obviously, I ransacked the bouquet’s contents until I found the source of the light. It was a box. A very small one. I proceeded to open it and inside the box were little pink lights, which reflected off a small, silver, hard drive. Almost immediately, I jumped up, ran and fetched my laptop from my bedroom. I caught my breath after a moment and inserted the drive onto the USB port. It took a minute for the computer to process the contents and soon enough it was ready. I clicked the only file present, a video file. Probably something sweet from Mr. Perfect, I thought to myself as the movie started. It showed a zoomed in picture of his face on my screen, I couldn’t help but let out a giggle. He looked so weird so close to the camera like that, then he moved back and gave it a wink. Well, that was cute. I giggled again. Then, a few minutes of it playing, I realized that something was horribly wrong. It was the day that we copulated for the first time, and all caught on tape too! What?! A sex tape? I fast forwarded to the end, and his face was on the camera again.
“Hey, Peters, just so you know, I love you a lot,” He gave me his signature smile, and that mollified my frustration a little bit.
“You do know he’s just ******** with you right?” a voice piped, and here comes another gorgeous blonde on the screen. She was gorgeous too. Holy crap, and the way she wrapped her arms around his neck suggested there was some intimacy behind her grasp. “Like, literally. The school would love this,” the peppy blonde added, and the video ended.
I was shocked. So this was what the murmurs in the hallway were about? They were talking about how I’m a slut? Those good for nothing retards! I helped them move on to the next ******** grade and this is how they repay me? With a ******** prank that cost me my reputation? All those times I thought the stares were for my uber hot boyfriend--or pseudo boyfriend, and they were really because of my behavior. ********. ********. ********! They should all die.
So, yeah. That was the day when I snapped. I was deemed insane. Whatever. Because love is s**t, I took the liberty of ruining all of those kids’ lives too, except, they didn’t stay alive long enough to know what effect it would have on their reputations. Of course, I saved the best for last. His Royal Hotness, oh, you should have seen how he groveled, how he begged for me to forgive him. He knew I was coming. He knew that he was going to die. He knew it, I knew it, the world knew it. But, he didn’t know when. It was today, actually, a few moments ago. It took a week for me to obtain my vengeance, and I finally finished it. The bitches were all dead, obviously, I wouldn’t care if they found evidence to prove that it was my doing-- my own Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre. I really don’t care. I’m happy now anyway. Happier than I have ever been, actually. It seems all I needed was to get all of the anger off my chest by means of killing people right? Well, I told you before, Love is s**t. You don’t need it. Happy Valentine’s day to you, then. Whatever.
