And they should. He's always been an alpha. They just couldn't see it. Now they will. Zahra kept her thoughts to herself as she cleared away and headed towards Louis, again, rubbing against him, just because she could. Also, because he was fluffy, and it was bliss to be against his soft pelt. Besides, he was a provider, so she could get away with her affection couldn't she? It didn't seem to bother him, and she hadn't noticed anyone else alarmed, so, she could continue. She nipped at him playfully, waiting for all the people to end their endless strings of congratulations. it was a pack meeting, she knew this, but goodness, it didn't make her anxiety go away. Instead, she stopped acting like a puppy, and looked around for a minute or two. Where was Chloe? The last she'd heard from the younger blonde was a warning when she'd been running out. Who had gone to get her? Had she gotten home before she shifted? Was another pack member with her, or was she lost somewhere? had someone seen her shift? Paranoia ran thick through Zahra, just as if it were her own flesh and blood. Pack was family. Family didn't get left behind, or forgotten, under any circumstances. Where was Chloe?
Snapped from her thoughts, Osiris announced the start of the hunt. With the order to move out, Zahra pranced off into the forest. This was what packs were meant to do. Run together. Hunt together. A succession of furry bodies rubbing against one another in pursuit of a similar goal. And Zahra was more then ready to get that show on the road. Dylan made an appearance, but as soon as he was spotted, he was gone again from her view. Zahra gave small pause, wondering if she should follow the Delta or not. Pepper grasped her attention, drawing close. Zahra let her gaze fall to her friend, listening to what the alpha had to say. It was a thank you, followed by a gentle nudge. The white fae couldn't help but give a gentle giggle. The more Pepper spoke, Zahra's anger diminished. Not that there had been much in the first place. Though, if there had been any residue resentment, surely it had vanished. "Don't worry about me, Alpha. I'll be okay. Things won't...things can't be the same, but between us, there won't be a difference of feelings. You're still my bestie. He's still my. My Da. And you've... She paused a moment, thinking how to put it respectfully. "You've both been my alpha's, you know. So, there really isn't a big difference.. except that now, everyone knows.. and you're together... Don't worry about me Pepper, okay? I mean no disrespect when I say it... but, if I were you, and going to worry about someone. I'd worry about Chloe. Me? I'll be okay. I'm not all that important. I have bigger things going on. No sense in getting mad at two people I care about, and care about me."
Prancing about again, Zahra made sure to keep by Pepper, on the off chance that the alpha had something more to say. It turned out to be a good judgement. Pepper instructed Zahra to tail her as they approached the prey they had found to get one of the first shots. The white far let her tail wag energetically, as her excitement surged through her. She couldn't believe the gift that b]Pepper was giving her. Tail up and waging frantically, Zahra kept her body close, even as Dylan returned, signalling to the clearing that held the first sighting of Prey. It appeared ti be something good, as pepper came upon it. Zahra hung back, waiting to see what the alpha had seen, rather then making additional noise in the movement that would come with following the Alpha like a shadow. When Pepper announced that a Bull Elk was the prey of choice, Zahra's tail began it's rapid pace of wagging once more. It seemed that was the end of words, as Pepper's lithe form struck low to the ground. Zahra slunk after her slowly, keeping her eyes alert and her pawsteps gentle as possible. her nose took in the scent of elk, and she heard a last warning from Pepper before the alphaess herself struck out at the animal.

Zahra saw Pepper's strike. Inhaled the scent of the elk's blood, and lunged, following her alphaess, just as she had been instructed. The scent of blood pounding in her nose, Zahra went for the elk's throat. Ambitious, with a desire to prove herself and make a good hit. She was focused on the hit, and the knowledge of the pack watching. She didn't think about the elk's reaction, if it would be more then a simply baying, or if it would make move against the wolf that had bitten into it's flank. Zahra just wanted a good hit. She lunged fro the throat of the beast that would feed the pack, and met the head of the elk. Antlers and all, with a force that knocked the wind out of her. She wasn't exactly sure what had happened. Once minute, she'd been lunging for the elk's throat, the next, she was back a few feet from it, having failed in her attack. The blow from the elk had been enough to throw her back landing incorrectly on a paw, and she whined gently, not putting pressure on it. She curled up, trying to make herself scarce in the brush she'd managed herself into. Not only was she injured, but she'd failed to nail a hit. She'd been blown completely out of the line of her target. With horror, she stood up again, not willing to let anyone see her down for more then a few seconds. She didn't put any weight on her haw paw, but she pulled herself out of the clearing the elk was still stuck in, given the rest of the pack. the less people that saw her down and out, the better. She wasn't about to look weak, when she had been trying to hard to make herself look strong. Everything seemed to be going wrong today. Why had she thought that this would be any different?

It was god awful cold and early. The alarm going off had already gotten its fifteen minutes of snooze, which mean that she had to get up. Blonde hair, puffed up from sleep was all that could be seen, aside from the mass of pillows and blankets that were in disarray on the bed itself. A pale skinned arm reached out and smacked the offending clock, which had gone into a higher pitch at a louder volume. No. That was so not going to make anyone’s morning better. And she was totally getting a new alarm clock. She didn’t care if it had been Osiris’ idea to get one that was so damn annoying, she’d break it, and go buy herself her own. With a groan, she pushed her torso up off the bed, looking down at the pillows and sighing. She uncurled her body, bringing her feet out from under the blankets, and set them on the ground, giving a short shriek as she felt the cold of the floorboards. She looked to her window, and was grateful that she had shut it last night, as the pane seemed to be frosted with the cold, which would only get worse. The town always got colder before it got warmer. She’d learned that when she moved her with the Cheveyo Pack. Now that there really was no more reason to delay the inevitable, she forced herself to move from the bed, going to her closet to pick out something that would keep her warm during the day. It was a school day after all, and despite how ugly the day was, there would be no skipping. That’s just how it worked when your father was a teacher at your high school. The minute you weren’t in class was the minute he knew you skipped, and the minute he decided to punish you for being stupid. No. Zahra had no plans of pissing off Osiris today. She’d be good. For once.
Heading to the bathroom, she jumped into the shower, and noted the lukewarm feel of it. She was not happy. She wanted the searing heat of a hot shower on a morning like this, and not getting it was only going to make her grumpy. At least it was warm instead of freezing. That was a small mercy. She knew the only reason it wasn’t hot, was because there was someone else using a shower, or at least, gearing up for one. She could only guess who the culprits were. No. Not even a guess. She knew who the culprits were, in their room, doing whatever they wanted in the shower, and Zahra shut off the thought there. She was so not going to think about what Pepper and Osiris were doing in their shower, like they did every morning because they could. The two alphas were still in their “madly in love” phase, which meant rampant sex whenever they could get it. It made Zahra sick to think about it, so she avoided it at all costs. Her father was a grown man, just as Pepper was a grown woman who could make her own decisions. They were both adults, and while Zahra respected them both, there was still something odd about her best friend getting with her father. She didn’t say anything, but obviously, that was a huge rift in their relationship. Zahra had simply started looking to Pepper as a respected leader and adult, rather than the best friend she had clung to for so long. Things change, and Zahra knew it, she just hadn’t wanted to admit it. Change wasn’t something that thrilled her. Especially when it meant getting closer to aging another year. Zahra’s own birthday was coming up soon, and the mark of sixteen meant that she only had one more year to prove that she was worthy to hold a position in the pack, as well as be an active part of it. Shutting off the water, she focused on the tasks at hand. Getting ready for school.
Heading back to her room, she pulled on a pair of jeans, and began layering from there. Long sleeved shirt, a cute cardigan, boots, thick socks, and then the jewelry. She pulled her hair up in a messy bun and added a gently ribbon of crystals around it, making it look chic. It only took a few minutes, but once she was finished, she was satisfied with how she looked and grabbed her bag, tossing it over her shoulder and headed downstairs. There was still no sign of anyone really, hanging out, so she started breakfast for herself and Osiris. She was betting, by checking the time on the microwave, that he was going to run late, and not be able to eat, so she would be nice, and make him breakfast to go. No arguments with that, right? She set to work on toasting and flipping out eggs, making everything to perfection, so that Osiris would actually eat what she made. It was no deterrent to Zahra herself, because she liked cooking. She just wanted people to eat what she cooked when she cooked it. When she was finished, she had a croissant sandwich with eggs, cheese, and ham tucked safely inside. She wrapped it carefully in foil, threw it in a brown bag, and added a few napkins as well as a bottle of water. Then she turned back to her own breakfast, making much the same thing, only without eggs. She was nibbling on her own, out of the kitchen when she heard footsteps coming down the stairs. She knew, before she saw him, exactly who it was.
When Osiris shouted for her to hurry up, she heard the tell-tale sign of the fridge opening, and scarfed down the last few bites of her sandwich. Making sure that she had nothing on her face and everything else was in alignment as far as her clothing and hair, she picked up her bag, and the brown bag and headed out to the car. Swinging herself in, she put the bag next to him. ”Breakfast.” And that was pretty much the extent of their conversation. As they drove, Zahra took note of the terrible white weather that was outside, and drew her cardigan tighter around herself. She couldn’t imagine being at school all day in this weather, and he looked to Osiris for some kind of answer that would tell her they would get to go home. She would never admit it, but she had work to do, and not just the training variety. She was procrastinating on a paper, and she needed more time to sit down and actually write it out, before her father found out that she wasn’t actually working on what she was supposed to be. But she would never tell.
When they parked, Zahra slid out of the vehicle quickly, and busied herself by blending into the crowd. Word was that school was going to close due to the snow. She shook her head, talking with the couple of people that she managed to hold a decent relationship with. If that was the case, then she was going to need to get a ride back home, and she was betting that Osiris might be a little more impatient about getting home then he had been with going to school. She sighed, and continued talking with the few acquaintances she had while she waited for the teacher in the front of the room to start lecturing. After all, she was already at school, there was no real reason to continue to sit around and wait for someone to send her home. It would be a waste. And while she was here, she should pay attention. So she turned towards the front of the room, and watched as the teacher started writing some things on the board. She’d pay attention, and get through these classes, and then she’d be home free. She just hoped that it would end a little faster than usual. There was no shame in that, right?

She was running. Racing towards something, but she wasn’t sure yet what it was. The ground was escaping beneath her paws and the grass was high, tickling her belly as she ran. There was a briny scent in the air and she tilted her nose towards it. How nice it was to be back. To be in her childhood home. With rolling green grass and Irish breezes perfumed with wild heather. The world was spots of color, and the sun was high in the sky. Somewhere ahead, she heard soft singing. The lilting Irish lyrics were sung by a voice she knew very well. Mum. Her heart picked up the pace, wanting this to be real. Wanting this to be more than a fantasy. She hadn’t seen her mum since she was eight, and the red-head was kissing her and putting her on a boat to go where ‘she’d be safe’. That was almost half her life ago. She forced herself to pick up the pace. She wanted to be faster. wanted to get to that voice. There, on the cliff. Meters ahead, over the crest of a hill. If she could just get there. The sun was so bright! It was starting to envelope everything. her mum, fading into the light, just a banner of flame from her hair. Something inside of her warned her that it would be over soon. That she wasn’t going to make it. She opened her mouth, trying to call out to her mum but the world was breaking, falling from under her feet, and she was falling...into darkness…..
Her furred body curled tighter to the plush form surrounding her as she slept. It moved around her and she started to pull herself awake. She gave a soft whine, which she’d be mortified came from her maw if she was actually all there and fully awake in her mind. Instead, she tilted her snout up and gave a gentle kiss to the form pulling away from her body. The one that smelled like what she knew was home now. Soon, it was leaving her, allowing her to smell the other scents that were filtering into the large huddle of bodies where the pack had fallen asleep. Her Da was gone and as Bryn stretched her legs, cracking some of the bones, she began shifting back into her human form. It hurt still. Her muscles cramped in her legs, making her bite her lip as it formed; paw pads turning into twisted fingers as she grunted softly, coming out of her wolf body, and returning to her human gize. When she was finally up and standing, she was completely naked. She didn’t much care who saw her. It wasn’t as if they hadn’t seen her already. Some of the older women were more carefully, shading or hiding their bodies as they got up, but Bryn didn’t care. She was fourteen and nothing mattered to her other than her role in the pack, her dear old Da and maybe her best friends Joseph and his constant tagalong Gema.
Just to make sure she wasn’t causing too much trouble, she passed through the jumble of clothing that had been discarded the night before until she pulled out a tank top and a pair of shorts. She didn’t need shoes, and it wasn’t as if they were readily available to her. She turned her nose to the sky, and found that above the scent of bodies was the smell of cooking food. that meant someone was up to cook the mess of smells. She smiled when she smelled bacon. She really did love good, crispy bacon, and she hoped that whoever was cooking it had burned a few pieces. Her granny used to burn bacon on purpose, just so they could eat it together. It was really the only way to eat it. Raw, gelatinous pig was disgusting. Bryn shrugged, looking around at the still sleeping bodies to see if Joseph was still around. there were a lot of wolves, and she recognized most of them, but Joseph was not amongst them. She frowned and picked her way across the sleeping forms draped close to one another. Where had her Da gone off to?
Rolling her shoulders, keeping her footing light. Maybe, if she was really lucky, she’d be able to make a jump on him and show him just how ready she was for her ceremony. Her birthday was tomorrow. She’d been really good lately, trying not to get into too many fights. She wouldn’t shame her Da or her pack by giving them a reason to think she was a loose cannon that couldn’t be restrained when necessary. She just may have had a different definition of necessary than the rest of the pack did. She really was trying to be better, but there were just so many reasons to fight off the stupid yearlings of her age that she couldn’t always explain to the adults. Padding towards the kitchen, Bryn planned on snatching a couple of pieces of bacon when she saw the oafish yearling Tyler getting awfully close to Joseph Bryn didn’t know exactly what was going on until she saw Tyler move to take a swing. Rushing forward, the brunette was too late to stop the first punch, but not the second. She shoved the other yearling away from her best friend and growled. Tyler laughed, pointed at Joseph and commenting on his size and how easily he fell over. He also looked at bryn once the amusement had run out and jabbed his finger back in Joseph’s direction to accuse him of being a deserter. How the curr had found out, Bryn didn’t know. She fumed and started her own yelling. ”Yer a manky dog Tyler. Trasna ort féin! Pick on someone yer own size yuh damn curr.” Bryn went to swing on him then but she was jerked back, hard by the collar of her shirt. Angry still, and only seeing Tyler’s face, she cursed him again. ”Briseadh agus brú ar do chnámha!”
Bryn was still fuming when the second shake came and she had to look at who was holding them. The beta. Jon. A growl built in Bryn’s throat and fire was in her eyes, even as he threatened another of his training sessions. She passed a glance at Tyler and felt satisfaction at his paling. But her attention was right back on Beta Sterven and she had a retort burning on her tongue until movement beyond him caught her eyes. Her Da. She culled her own tongue real quick and looked down, giving a huff to silence her growl and the rage she felt blooming beneath her skin. She wasn't suicidal. She wasn’t strong enough to beat the beta and she knew it, but more importantly than that, she didn’t want to embarrass her Da, and she didn’t want to be banned from seeing Joseph. she crossed her arms over her chest, looking once more to the beta in anger when he told her to apologize. She hadn’t done anything wrong. She hadn’t even got a swing in on the manky dog. She ground her teeth, listening as Tyler gave her a snarky apology. She did the same, reluctantly, as if the words burned her tongue. Then she turned away from the beta and watched Tyler go running off like the pup he was.
Bryn lingered only for the fact that she wanted to make sure that Joseph was okay. That was when her dear old Da came over. She looked at him, uncertain if she was going to face trouble, or if he was going to tell her something else. When his thumbs up came, she felt a breath of relief leave her. So he wasn’t going to punish her. especially the day before her birthday. His punishment could have been a variety of things, but what she feared, was him taking away or pushing back her ceremony to prove she was ready to join the ranks of the pack. She was ready. She wanted to make him proud. Plus, she had a feeling when she passed, she’d get something really special. Her Da’s gifts were always special, but this one would be good. She knew it. And he’d been really good about hiding it this year. Although he birthday hadn’t hit yet, she still had time. When he praised her, Bryn returned his greeting and smiled up at him. The tension from before melting away into pride for doing something he approved of. She smiled at the flick to her cheek and moved to snap at his finger in return before pressing her cheek to his arm for a second. Then he mentioned bacon in the war room and her stomach grumbled. Normally, they, meaning the yearlings and pups were told not to go in, but given her Da’s invitation, she smiled. Maybe this was something to do with her birthday? ”Sumthin’ else in there too Da? Secret mission? Birthday present? A gun?” She beamed up at him, showing hope before turning back to Joseph. ”Be right in, Da. Gotta check on Jojo ferst. Least the ol’ Beta can’na git mad at me fer honorin’ muh pack brother.” She murmured it softly and moved to check on Joseph. Gema still hadn’t made an appearance, but certainly there was only a few places the alpha’s pup could be this early in the morning. If she and Joseph hadn’t caught up yet, then she was most likely still sleeping with her own mum or da. Yet, Bryn had a sneaking suspicion the pup was somewhere else at the moment. She did wonder if the pup had shifted back yet. It would probably be surprising how much it would hurt and she didn’t want Gema to be alone after her first shift.
She padded up to the blonde boy and looked at him carefully. ”Jojo….Im really sorry I was’na here to make sure the arse did’na hit yuh. I hope yer okay. But I can make it up to yuh. I o’rreheard some of the pack members talkin’ ‘bout a secret way to see wha’s goin’ on in the war room. I t’hot we could go an’ find it?” She beamed at him, and her slight show of genius and snooping skills. One day, she would know all the Ukufa pack’s secrets. She wanted to be just like her Da and take over as guardian of the pack. Gema would be the alpha eventually, and then Joseph would be beta. They’d all be just like their parents, even though Joseph had dreams of leaving, Bryn wasn’t going to let him. He had to stay with the pack. He just hadn’t realized that it was a mandatory thing yet. But soon he would. Maybe once he took his yearling trial he would realize it.
The brunette went to turn and lead her best friend, who was suspiciously absent of their normal pup tail towards the secret entrance she had yet to find when a blur of color came bolting at them. Bryn found Gema dressed adorably. She smiled gently, unable to help herself. The pup was really cute, and she looked really happy, almost infectiously so. Bryn couldn’t help herself. She smiled and moved towards the house quietly. By the storage cellar, there was a window that would most likely lead into the basement, if it wasn’t something that was more. The Irish lass bent down and moved the screen and window and shimmied her body into the small space. She smirked when she found it to be much roomier once she was inside. It was almost as if the house was insulated with a second wall, so that sneaking around would be much easier. She popped her head out of the window to beckon both Gema and joseph in with her. If she was going to get busted, they all might as well face the punishment together. Which meant, they would all get off, because short of the Silver Alpha, no one was going to get gema in trouble unless it was to save her life. Them finding a secret entry way, when their parents were elites? Probably not a huge problem unless they used it later. In which case, the elites would probably rig the entrance so they couldn’t get in again.
Instead of waiting forever, when she knew eventually Joseph and Gema would answer her taunting call, she moved ahead. Her hands extended to either side of her, keeping fingers on the walls around her so that she would remember which direction she had moved, and how to get back. She found a flashlight at the entry way and picked it up, turning it on the dimmest setting so they could make their way through the passage easier. She moved slowly, not wanting to make too much noise in case the older members were listening. She didn’t want them to be discovered before they could have some real fun and see just where these tunnels could take them. At certain points, the tunnels branched off, but Bryn made her way towards the noise. After all, everyone was going to be in the war room, right? She moved faster, her heart racing in anticipation of finding what secrets were ahead. when she heard voices, she stopped, leaning against the wall. She gently patted at the wall, feeling it for any movement. She felt a strange cloth like piece in the dark and pulled at it. A soft sound like velcro detaching came from the movement, but she continued anyways. When it lifted, she could see into the war room. There were a lot of people inside. Some of the wolves weren’t recognizable. Some of them were big, big brutes. She frowned, looking beyond to where she found her Da, slumped in his chair, unmoving. Her eyes moved quickly, taking in the sight of Beta Jon, the Silver Alpha, and Twitchy Zeta all in the same position. Something was definitely wrong.
The strange people were starting to filter out of the room. Bryn’s heart picked up in speed and she looked back towards Joseph and Gema. She shook her head. ”Jojo…. somet’in’s wrong. Da...and yer Da...and tuh Silver Alpha...somet’in’s wrong…” Worry creased her voice, but she didn’t cry. Instead, she looked after the strange dark haired female. She looked like she had been here before, but Bryn didn’t remember. Instead, she moved through the wall as quietly and quickly as she could until she found another patch of material. She moved it quickly and found that it was one of the living rooms. A few of the lady members were in the room, including a dark skinned woman named Mama Nattie. Bryn had always called the woman that. Mama Nattie had been the first person outside her father that the girl had trusted when she’d showed up on the Ukufa pack’s doorstep when she was eight. The woman had been around to help her become more of a woman as she got older. She’d even tried braiding her hair once or twice, while painstakingly, Bryn had had to sit still. The braids had come out almost moments later while the woman had scorned her.
A shaky looking girl (Rose), one of the strangers walked up to the older, dark skinned woman. Taking her head in her hands, quickly, it was almost as if the strange girl (Rose) had meant to treat Mama Nattie like a puppet. There was a loud crack, and Mama Nattie fell to the floor. The strange girl (Rose) said something in a language that Bryn didn’t understand and then looked at the dark haired girl (Alex) and muttered something about it being a good idea. What was a good idea? Bryn’s heart heaved in her chest. her eyes glued to the two strange woman, head ears open for their muted words. There was a pounding in her ears, even as she began to understand what the shaky girl (Rose) had done. When she said “Not Hale” Bryn knew that was what was wrong. These wolves were not the hale pack. Not here on official business, or on business dealing with her yearling trial. They were imposters! They had killed Nattie. That meant, in the war room, the big brutes, the slacked bodies. Bryn bit her lip so she wouldn’t scream and turned to find Joseph, moving back through the hall quickly, but as quietly as possible. When she found her best friend, her heart pounded in her chest, and she was on the verge of hysterics.
”J...Jo..Jojo… get Gema… we gotta go...we gotta go tell tuh big pack… tuh...tuh hale people…..t’ere are enemies in t’ere. T’ey killed….t’ey got her… we gotta get Gema to safety! She has tuh be tuh alpha!” The sorrow melted away as she pushed it back and focused on getting Joseph and Gema to safety. Something told her this was not a test. They needed to run. They couldn’t take anything. They had to run now. She ran her hands through her hair and pushed aroudn the other two to head for the window. She’d scout it first, like a guardian, to make sure the big brutes wouldn’t see them. ”Now Jojo. We gotta go now! I’ll scout it. But grab Gema. We gotta go!”
