My daughter is a Girl Scout, and they have to do the damnedest things. The latest thing is they have to make some kind of beauty product, like lotion or soap or shampoo, etc., out of household ingredients. Does anybody have a recipe for this? I can look on the internet and find something, but was hoping somebody here had something tried-and-true to recommend.

Fresnel,

Once I made flavored nail polish for a school project. It's quite simple. Just take a bottle of nail polish (I used clear) and add in some extract flavoring. I would not recommend lemon. That's what I used, and it made me literally sick to my stomach. I had made it as something that could help stop nail biting. It didn't really serve its purpose for that, but flavored nail polish (with the right taste, of course) could soon be all the rage!

I'd recommend coconut, vanilla, or almond extract. They'll probably work the best.

Flavored nail polish? eek

Genius! I have to try it! I wonder if you can make some that tastes like orange... o.o

I have a recipe your daughter can try, Fresnel.
It's a dry shampoo my grandma used to use on us kids when we were out camping and our hair would get greasy and smelly. Really simple: Just mix together 1 cup of ground oatmeal and 1 cup of baking soda. Rub it into your scalp for a few minutes and then brush it out.
My grandma says she got this off of a cooking show. xD

Oh god, Scouts. I quit that two years ago. I couldn't stand it..my leader was a b*tch and I couldn't stand her...

Anyway.... I'd say that if you have any aloe vera or peppermint use the aloe for a lotion and peppermint for a steam therapy.

I find that incredibly creepy.

I have no idea why...

They probably sell it after the kids make it. xd

They're doing a fashion badge, I guess. They also have to bring a picture of a vintage fashion and some other stuff. It's always something, though.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The dry shampoo is especially interesting if you are on a camping trip with no means to wash your hair.

No, not Little Miss World entrants, but they study various things to earn badges. They learn about different countries, plants, fashion, pets, first aid, and they do crafts, have get-togethers with other girls from other places, etc. My daughter likes it, but I have to say, I find it annoying. It costs quite a bit, and I always thought Girl Scouts was supposed to be more about camping, learning to live in the outdoors, etc., but this troop is more of a social club. They had a father-daughter "Princess Dance" last week, where they had to dress up like princesses. Gack. And since she basically has no viable father, this was awkward to say the least.

I'm a girl scout dropout!

I only lasted 2 years because I hated the troop leader. And I was too afraid to sleep over at Girl Scout Camp. hahaha

I was in Girl Scouts when I was in grade school.

I loved it! Some of my favorite childhood memories were made at Girl Scout Camp. I caught my first fish (and ended catching more than anyone else, even the Boy Scouts! >D ) I learned how to make a teepee, and I got some really cool badges in the process. Selling cookies was the best. I wish I could have stayed in the group through middle school, but sadly I had to move.
