Okay. Can anyone PLEASE tell me of occupations that require NO ALGEBRA OR DIFFICULT MATHEMATICS? I know I'm not gonna get a passing grade on it and I don't know if I want to go to college or not. >.< Maybe I'll just write a few stories and publish em..

Ashahis, contrary to what you may have heard, there are in fact very few jobs that do require algebra. Sometimes it's helpful to know it, but in general, when you are applying for a job, they want to know your experience, and whether you'll actually show up and stuff, and do not ask you to solve for x. Unless you want to be an astrophysicist or something. I'm guessing you don't ...

Well, it isn't really just algebra... whenever I complete a school year I just feel like I'm even less intelligent than I was at the start of that year. Is that normal?

It is my professional opinion... That so long as you know how to add, subtract, divide and multiply, you're set for life. Unless you want to pursue a career that revolves around complicated mathmatics (like an astronaut!) then Algebra is pretty pointless.
I never understood why you're supposed to take Geometry after Algebra, then Trig after Geometry. Geo and Alg are almost not related at all...

The wiser you get, the dumber you feel. I have a suspicion that you're just maturing. You would be surprised at how much you know that you don't know you know.

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend that you go to college. Even if you don't get too far in college, you still learn and you'll end up with some qualification to say that you went to college. Even if you didn't learn anything (which I certainly doubt) it'd look good on your CV, et cetera.
Whilst your doing that, you can publish your stories, but in case that doesn't go as well as you would wish, it's safe to have many a backup.]"`|

As a former CS major, I wanted to mention that the advantage of algebra (or chemistry or physics or calculus) is not that you need to know those things. But think of your thought processes like a human body. You can make them quick and limber and agile and flexible, like a gymnast. Or you can make them 300lbs and 4' tall and wholly sedentary. smile

Also, algebra is the fundamental, core foundation of programming. The ability to negotiate variables, use registers and declarations is really imparted by algebra. And, we're slowly going to get to a place, as a world, that if you don't know at least one higher order code language, you're going to be like people who don't know how to use a computer or the internet are nowadays...missing out on life. smile
