Forever Marked Tien is given her mir'eshu tattoo.
Had this not been such an important part of their culture she might have considered pulling the goddess card. But she couldnt ask them to forego the ceremony on account of her irrational fear of needles. It wasn't something she had intentinally allowed to remain after she became the dominant soul, but it had happened none the less. She watched Ophidia as the old priestess sketched the tattoo would grace her skin, at least when she dealt with the Mir'eshu. "Am I allowed to ask what it looks like?"
"No." The woman looked at her over the top of the sketchpad.
Tien grinned and laughed. "Well, it was worth a try."
Ophidia cracked a smile. "If you didn't then I would have been surprised." She sketched a few more lines. "Almost done."
A few moments later she flipped the sketchpad where Tien could see it. A mask similar to the one she found on Aejiss, but it would not cover a whole face like the real version of it did. A serpent, not unlike Kaulu, would coil around around her arm similar to the way that the one on Enjiron's was except it wove through the eyeholes of the mask as well.
"It's beautiful."
"It is you." That is what Mir'eshu tattoos were about- who you were and what family you came from. "It goes to the shoulder, so this will take at least a day."
Tien cringed at first, but remembered what Enjiron said about the days when he had gotten his tattoo. This was less than that even. She could handle this. "When do we begin?"
"When you are ready."
"I am."
...
A day and a half later Tien lay on the ritual table with her arm throbbing from the fresh ink. At least it was done and over with and she had survived. A priestess walked over with a basin in her hands. "A salve to ease the pain." She dipped the cloth into the basin and ran it gently over Tien's tattoo. Almost instantly the throbbing eased, dying down to a dull ache.
"Thank you."
"You are welcome Eshu. Now get some rest, we will get you food once you wake."
