Chloe sat atop Shimmer's back, having finally found a comfortable spot just in front of her shell so she wouldn't be sitting on anything pointy. She was in a sort of side-saddle position, holding onto one of the rock-like spikes on her shell with one hand to keep herself balanced and holding a pair of binoculars up to her face with the other.
They were only a short ways off shore, in the shallow waters, lazily floating along. Or at least, Shimmer was lazily floating along, but Chloe was looking for something. She wasn't sure what, exactly, but she was supposed to be scouting, so she was scouting. Maybe somewhere around here there would be a decent place to start up a base, but it didn't look promising so far.

Early morning scouting was the worst, but it was the only way to avoid the Ghost Pokemon of the Howling Forest. The sun's rays burned them back into the darkened depths of the trees but made it easier for investigation through the thicket. Of course, like her other advances, Cetus was unsuccessful at finding the Mewtwo she had been tracking since the caravan expedition. Much to her chagrin, it seemed to up and vanish after the grasslands. Maybe the Rockets already got back their runaway? Even if, Cetus never stopped looking. To her, it was out there until she captured it.
Nearing the end of her search, she had hopped to the eight winds upon her Pidgeot, Deneb Algenubi, to make a quick round of the area before heading back to Carona Coast and the bile of her ex. Traveling low, the bird Pokemon skimmed over the body of the unnamed lake with a stiff Galactic Grunt on his back. He kept his speed a swift pace. Unfortunately, the wind torpedo could not hold up to the current obstacle in its way. A large, mauve Lapras seemed to be its wall and he showed no signs of letting up.
"Algenubi, hey, slow down!" Cetus warned as she tugged at his throat feathers. "Oi!"
The Pidgeot flapped his wings and cried a, "Geooot!" into the air. He grunted at the pain of pulled feathers and bucked before he made contact with the Lapras. Cetus lost her grip and made a harsh splash into the water right behind the larger Water Pokemon. The Pidgeot smiled grimly at his drenched owner threading water beneath him. Serves her right.
"You feathered flocker!" Cetus cursed in the water. "Arceus damn it-!" So much for getting back to base quickly. Even worse, someone was going to find her in uniform. Great.

With her focus on what was on the other end of her binoculars, Chloe didn't realize what was going on until she heard shouting. She barely had time to look before she was jostled roughly from the impact, causing her to slip a bit.
"Hey!" She cried in surprise and irritation, "Watch where you're going." She growled, trying to haul herself back onto Shimmer's back without getting any more wet. Unfortunately, she had ended up with her legs in the water almost up to her knees, and the splash from the other human falling in had gotten most of the rest of her a bit wet. "My shoes..." She grumbled as she finally managed to pull herself back into a reasonable sitting position behind Shimmer's neck, pulling them off with an unpleasant squelch and setting them between some shell spikes where they would hopefully stay put while they dried.
Shimmer glared indignantly at the bird who had so rudely run into her and Chloe. "That was just rude." She helped Chloe up a bit using her fin before turning to the other human and offering to help her onto her back as well using her other fin.
"You'd better have a good reason for running into us." She was speaking to the Pidgeot, of course, but she was looking at the human, waiting for her to climb on, if she was going to.

"On the contrary, you were in my path of travel. It most certainly is not my fault your hardened rock of a rump was my obstacle." The Pidgeot fluttered low circles around the three below, having not the wingspan to just flutter freely like a Ledian. "So, the rude one must be you, for being born so big."
Cetus coughed a little and gave the Lapras a neutral but clearly annoyed expression. It was an excellent creature for a Water type and had she been a Rocket, she would have snatched it up in a jiffy. Unfortunately, she fought for a different team and different time. There was an unlikely chance she'd make the change anytime soon.
"Tell that to him." the older woman sternly replied as she cocked her chin to the overhead, spiraling bird. "It's not my fault." The Galactic Grunt stayed immersed in the water, braving hope and bounds that the shallow tide hid her team's logo. It was still visible, though cut to a third by the lake's depths. "What are you doing out here anyway?" Cetus added. Of course, it wasn't odd to see random trainers out and about in the Zataon wastes watching the flora and fauna. There was nothing different about this one, but Cetus inquired nonetheless for a possible recruitment.

Chloe raised an eyebrow at the other woman, not sure if the bit of pattern she could see on her shirt was what she thought it was or not. Impossible to be sure, but best to just keep her cover up and see what happens.
"Oh, I did mean him." Chloe laughed innocently, "I certainly didn't think you were flying around on your own and running into people." She looked up at the Pidgeot and shook her head, "You should be careful, you know. You might hurt yourself doing that. Shimmer here has a pretty tough shell." She gave the rocky surface a pat, "Pointy too. You're lucky you didn't run into those bits." She giggled, turning back to face the woman in the water.
"My name is Chloe, in any case." She offered, "And I'm just out seeing the sights." She lied, at least somewhat. She wasn't JUST seeing the sights, but they really were something to look at. Even if she wasn't out here to scout, she might have spent some time looking anyway.
"Excuse me?" Shimmer gasped, "I was here first, my clumsy feathered friend." Her tone was icy, though not yet so icy that it would send an Ice Beam flying out. "And if you were paying attention, as all three of us have said." She nodded to both Chloe and the other woman, who she had stopped offering her fin to now that she was more concerned with this Pidgeot, "You wouldn't have run into me! The nerve..." She huffed, sending a light mist out of her nostrils without realizing it.
"And for your information, the way one was born can't possibly be considered rude." She rolled her eyes, "Unless, of course, you were born running into everyone carelessly."

Deneb Algenubi promptly became pissed off. Of course, a courageous gentleman only knows one way to respond to idiosyncratic attitudes and responses: a Hyper Beam to the face. His verdant eyes fell to narrow slits and he opened his mouth readily to vomit a fluid stream of energy onto the opposing Pokemon. Unfortunately, or rather, fortunately, his act was halted when a stern, "Deneb Algenubi," broke his concentration. He stopped swiftly and turned his gaze at his owner who was still threading water like a slowly decaying Tentacool. How funny she looked to be soaking wet . . .
The giggle was nauseating to the point where Cetus spat out a bit to the side. A parfait of lake water, swelling algae, and pond reeds was the current taste in her mouth. Since she wasn't a Water Pokemon, the tang was not favorable. With a sigh, she beckoned her Pidgeot downwards to retrieve her. Her legs were quite tired from needless stomps at the water's depths.
"Really." Her tone was flat and uninterested, quite common in her speech. "Well, I guess I'm just out and about seeing the sights too." The Pidgeot hovered above her with long, thick slaps of his wings. She caught onto his outstretched foot and was pulled upward. She than proceeded to climb up his abdomen, throw a leg behind his wings, and fix herself into a comfortable sitting position.
"The name's Claramay," It came out on a whim. She was Claramay this time, might be Julie the next, possibly Vivianne, perhaps Mei-Zhen or Nora. There was too many. What was her first name anyway? Ah, that's right, she couldn't lose the memory too soon. It was stuck with her just like the past- oh, the past . . .
"Smoke?" she offered and felt around her body for an untouched carton of cigarettes. Heck, she didn't know if the gal was even old enough for tobacco. Ah well, at least they were in good shape. It was the one good thing about Galactic uniform thermals. Not only do they keep you warm, they keep the good stuff dry. She lit it in a swift movement and breathe is out nice and slow. Really, where had the time gone?

"Oh, the NERVE!" Shimmer prepared herself for the attack that was forming within the beak of the Pidgeot, though fortunately it didn't come. She almost hoped he would have done it anyway, so she could justify blasting him with an Ice Beam, or even Blizzard if she was feeling particularly angry. Which she was.
"Nice to meet you." Chloe said with a smile, "And no thanks, I'll pass." She was more interested in that symbol on her top. Chloe was right, it was a Team Galactic symbol. Part of her wanted to order Shimmer to attack, and Shimmer didn't seem like she'd be opposed to that right now, but she figured laying low might be best. For now.
"Seen anything interesting?" She asked casually, "I'm kind of new around here. Any tips on good places to visit?" She deliberately avoided looking at 'Claramay' and her shirt for the moment, pretending to be busy trying to dry her legs off and remove the small bits of algae she'd managed to get on herself. Gross.
"Working in a pokemon center tends to get a little claustrophobic, you know?"
