'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome for he sought -- So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back.
"And has thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" He chortled in his joy.
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.
~ Jabberwocky, Lewis Carroll, 1872

heart heart heart heart heart
But in my world...the books would be nothing but pictures!
Cats and rabbits Would reside in fancy little houses, And be dressed in shoes and hats and trousers...
Within that world of my own...
There'd be new birds, Lots of nice and friendly howdy-doo birds! Everyone would have a dozen bluebirds....
Within that world of my own...
I could listen to a babbling brook, And hear a song that I can understand. I keep wishing it would be that way, Because then my world Would be a Wonderland.

I saw a movie called Jabberwocky once...it was really terrible. Since it was made by about half the people from Monty Python, I'd thought that it would be a pretty good movie. Boy was I wrong. The only part I actually liked about it was the end credits, because the music was a song I'd played before.

A few semesters ago, my unviersity choir actually sang the Jabberwocky poem. It was such a fun song to sing, too. Lots of chortling and other assorted fun noises. Callooh Callay!

Anything associated with Alice in Wonderland works for me...
I haven't seen Jabberwocky, the Pythonian version, but I hear that Ubernifty's right. Sad to say...sing most things Pythonian are muchly good.
Did ya get a recording of your choir, Blossom?

The version we sang was specially written for our choir sometime during the 80s, I think. We do a World Premiere Series in the spring in which we invite a guest artist to compose a song specially for us to sing first. It's quite fun actually, because they come and do the conducting for that song. Anyhoo, I digress...
Jiggy, yes I did happen to get a recording of that concert because it was the 20th or 25th anniversary of the World Premiere Series. So all the songs we sang (including "Jabberwocky" and "Maggie & Milly..." were all old World Premieres. Heck, there was even a song in that concert that had Welsh text. Quite yummy to sing... ^_^

That's so awesome...what's the likelihood that you could digitize a snippet?

That's awesome, Blossom! You should put a snip of it in your multimedia!

Ooh, that's a cool idea! But how the heck would I do that? I am probably one of the most technologically unadvanced people... I need help, cause I want my page to play music now!

I love Lewis Carol. When I'm bored at work I recite that poem so many times. My boss looks at me oddly now...I wonder why... 4laugh

We have that poem tacked up on the back of our classroom wall. I love it - one of my favourite poems ever written, I think.

Mine too, Jay. ^_^ I love the words he made up for the poem. Made-up words are definitely the best sometimes.
