When the babies had arrived Hyde had become a very happy lion for the most part but as they grew he found himself lonely. After such a busy and happy time there absence was sorely missed, what he'd give to have little ones scurry all over him, climb up his mane and tug on his tail. The most depressing part... they weren't even his! They where his best buds... yes a mouse... and his misses mouse, and since those two had there little once he barely saw his best friend either.
Hyde often wondered how they where all doing, the entire family of mice, his best friend and sometimes even her.... Every time his mind shifted to her it was if she wore a halo and had an aura of purity around her fur, he could never find a fault with her and had well and truly been infatuated with her since the first day they met all those years ago.
Vintage....
The name he would never forget, his perfect example of a lioness that even though he would not admit to any passer by he longed to spend time with. It was so perfect too! Even there familiars and best friends had fallen in love, now why couldn't they? Because she was too good for him that was why and he knew it and so much younger too...
Sighing he rolled over draping a paw over his solemn face half out of pure dismay and half to block to blazing son from blinding him. It was such a dry heat, with flies buzzing about everywhere and as he snapped out of his depressing trail of thought just a peek around him indicated that this place was far from romantic "Hfrphm." This was far to sullen and he wasn't going to give into it today, oh no siree! Today was not the day he'd just lie there until he died of dehydration.....
Well... maybe not, didn't look like Hyde was moving for much currently, maybe he'd drift into a nice idealistic nap, who knew?

 With a small huff to blow her hair out of her eyes, the wind blowing about her in a gentle beeze. It was a comfortable but recently that's all her days have ever been. Comfortable... regular... mediocre. Stopping she sat down, and looked at the ground. She hated being by herself. She was one who needed to play, needed a friend... Vintage wanted Anca and her children to always stay with her but that just wasn't possible. Frowing she let her mind drift... She wanted Hyde.
Bringing a paw up to her face she wiped at her eyes. She hated being lonely... she'd been lonely all her life. Until she met Hyde ad his best friend Jekyll. Hyde had given Anca to her, Anca was her best friend... and best memory. But now she was alone, best friendless and bes memory-less... Shaking her head again she rose and moved.
It was the only way for her to keep a good attitude about her days. She had to move, see new places, go to places she had seen before. It was when she whacked her head on a branch that she realized she was here... her favorite place she was at with Hyde. A smile curled the edges of her mouth as she dipped her tail into the cool water of the small pool.

With the most ever slight breeze it was almost enough to give hope to the lion but instead of relishing it, Hyde simply rolled over and felt himself go limb. Urg this was bloody depressing, what had happened to the confident, goofy, playful lion he had once strived to be, the Lion that bagged two lionesses at the same time and even produced cubs... even if he didn't see them.
Tucked under the foliage of the closest bush Jekyll shook his head, how depressing, how had he and Anca found such happiness in each other and yet there two friends hadn't? It made no sense, he knew they liked each other so what was Hyde doing here all slumped, lazy lion! As his friend rolled over he found the perfect opportunity, darting out just enough to be seen the mouse then quickly darted back in and away.
Was that how he found himself feeling this way? A love story with no happy ending... children with no need for him.. and his best friend....
What?
Blinking he found himself lifting up on the spot, was that? "Jekyll?" He couldn't be sure but the red of his little friend mouse always did stick out and without thinking he was moving, forward and into the foliage. "Jekyll? Where are you going, is that even you?"
Yes it was and he had a plan, Jekyll never liked to admit seriously but he knew he was cleverer that Hyde, sure he'd jest but for this to work he couldn't be caught. All he needed was for Hyde to keep following, to catch a glimpse of him, and that took all his cunning, there was no doubt lions where the faster so he'd have to hide give him a glimpse then dash off. As hard as it was not to stop and see what was going on in the big oufs mind, catch up and give his purpose this seemed the only way.
Obliviously Hyde followed, confusion all over his face and panic setting in in his stride, was something wrong? Or was he crazy? he'd run straight and now he couldn't see anything, did he imagine it, had it just been a hallucination his cruel mind had conjured?
Here I am! With a smile to himself the little mouse showed a glimpse again and was off, silently and without being spotted more than from Hyde when he needed to be seen. This was working perfect, in fact this should do it, a few more minutes and they would finally meet, as if fate had thrown them together, both the uselessly depressed lions in his life.
Worry and craziness was truly starting to set in, yet when he saw the glimpse again he was off, following without a second thought, he really did miss his best friend and despite what they'd been through it looked like he'd always would. "Jekyll? Buddy C'mon, whats wrong? Am I talking to myself!" Growling a little he found himself picking up pace, and with a lack of response becoming determined to catch up and settle this.
After a few minutes he found himself panting, slowing down and looking about. Now as he walked he could feel the parched dry cling to his throat, it felt that any liquid left in his body was rolling down his face "Jekyll... Please I..." Hyde stopped, looking around he could spot no red mouse, not even a glimpse as before but this place.... this was. Taking in the scent his heart almost stopped, that scent... this place.. no it couldn't be? Hesitantly he moved through the thick tree leafs into the small clearing, it really was the place and it looked perfect with the breeze ruffling his mane and the water hole...
There she was.. "Vi...Vintage.....?" Whereas any other time they'd met this would of been game time, that could of been the perfect pounce but after the past what felt like eternity all he could do was stand there and look at her, his heart racing a million miles an hour and resist the urge to go over, to just touch and make sure this wasn't another cruel hallucination....

With a calming swish back and forth in the water, Vintage had cleared her mind. All her worries, her troubles, her dreams and ideas were gone. Vanished. That was the bliss of coming to this place. More then once in the past had she come here, hoping to meet her friend Hyde. At that time she only had games in her mind. She had been a cub when they met and as she grew old her had always been there for her. But what was this now? Great... the ideas and thoughts had come back. And so had the feeling of lonliness. Slapping her tail feathers on the water's surface she scoffed a bit as the water splashed up on her paws. She was useless, or so it seemed.
It was so hard to just sit here and watch! Anca's tail twitched as she cocked her head, listening for Jekyll. It had taken them quite a while to formulate this plan and she really didn't want to see it fall apart. Staring whistfully at her lioness she mentally sighed. It had been so long since she had seen a smile that lit up Vintage's eyes. "Hurry Jeky..." she thought desperately
What had brought her here? Of all the thoughts running through her head, that was the one that kept reaccuring. "Why?" She questioned out loud, her face screwed up with confusion. She knew she had been wandering aimlessly, but it was almost as if she had been led here. "That's impossible." She said in a clear state of denial. Rising she stretched her body a bit, enjoying the sunshine on her back. As she cleared her mind again she had apparently missed Hyde's stumbling and bumbling, even his panting as he came into the clearing. Sitting back down she looked at the water, her eyes drawn to her reflextion.
There! He was there! Anca nearly squeeked with joy as she saw Hyde's hard to miss pelt as he appeared in the clearing. Scanning the underbrush quickly she looked for her lover. Seeing him in his designated hiding spot she grinned and stared at her lioness. "Just turn... just turn..." she thought again, trying to put the thought into Vintage's head.
What was that noise? Has someone just said her name? Turning her head towards the other end of the clearing she saw him and her mouth fell open. "It can't be..." She said in disbelief, her eyes begining to brighten at his appearence. "Please tell me you're real..." She whispered, rising from her haunches. "Hyde...?" She questioned a little louder, her body a little hesitant to move.

Ta-da! Everything had gone to plan, just as they predicted they'd both ended up here, with a little help from there friends, and had met back up. Now they where both adults and it was their state of mind they where banking on, Anca and himself both knew they where lonely, and that it was each other they sought. Love at first sight, just as it had been with his beloved, just those foolish lion's where too stubborn to give into the wondrous feeling! Not this time, the two mice had set it up perfectly, they knew no-one else was around for quite a while, with this place and the time that had elapsed it could only go one way... or it better! Smiling he silently kept hidden but moved to his mate, rubbing cheeks lovingly and then turning to watch the events unfold.
He wanted so much to run up to her and make sure she was real, so very much but he was stuck like a statue, not blinking and it felt like not even breathing.
And then she spoke...
It was as if an Angel had just brushed against his ears, gently caressing his flakes and releasing the grip on his heart allowing him to start breathing again. Yet he still couldn't find any words but a single tear welled in his eye. Just to know that she was still alive, still here, and still just as perfect in every way that he remembered.
Standing in front of him as he had dreamed so many times, he felt his tail start to swish back and forth happily and finally he felt his tongue loosen after what felt like an eternity in the perfect moment had passed. "Vintage... I didn't, I mean I hoped but..." Shaking his head, sending his bright red mane side to side he took a deep breath and tried to collect himself, the moment was finally here and he was just as much a stupid ouf as always. "I think I'm real.. I mean I was last time I checked, please tell me you are too? This seems too much like a dream to be real...." Once he'd calmed himself the words just seemed to slip out before he thought of there true meaning, had he really just admitted to her that he dreamt of her? Urg, he was going to mess this up... and after so long she'd run and they wouldn't even be friends anymore!

Her heart was pounding, her ears perked up and forward, her need to catch his every word and sound was vital. It was almost difficult to hear because her heart was pounding so hard and fast. She closed her mouth, after having caught herself with it dangling open like an idiot, and stared. He was standing so oddly that she wasn't sure if -she- were dreaming again. Of course she dreamt of him! He was all she could think of, of course she spared a thought for her mice every once in a while but Hyde had always been in the forefront of her mind.
She was almost afraid to blink, but taking a chance she closed her eyes, listening to everything he said. He looked like Hyde. He sounded like Hyde. ... Could her dreams have come true? Wait a second... What was that last hing he said? Her eyes snapped open. This seems too much like a dream to be real.... Her thoughts exactly. But that only meant that a dream was dreaming about her... Did dreams dream? A smiled slowly spread across her face and she flung herself forward, "HYDE!!!"
Her heart was pounding in her ears and thumping on her chest but she didn't care. He was here!! He was really here!!

Hyde seemed to find himself in a spiral of depressing thoughts again, this was the moment, that everyone dreamt of having, the fairy tale meeting and he was going to mess it up. It was so typically him, he felt like gritting his teeth and running... wait... was she smiling?
Before he knew it she was in the air, had he been more aware he might of stood a chance but she had always been strong, even as a lioness and even though she was younger than him. Not that it mattered now, they where fully grown adults and he felt just how much of an adult she was as she landed with her full weight on him. However he didn't feel pain, instead he felt a blissful elation, he could feel her fur against his and that meant she was most defiantly real... and on top of him.
Without thinking he leant up with a smile that felt that after this long would crack his cheeks and licked her nose, now his heart was ringing in his ears and he felt that the angels where signing a song just for them. "Vintage, it really is you! It's been so long I didn't know what to.... Look at you, even more beautiful than I can remember!" It felt like his throat was being possessed, had he really just said that out loud again? Well she was on top of him... and he'd already licked her without thinking, he'd really thrown himself in for some embarrassment or... maybe... she felt the same?

Vintage was purring so loadly she was probably shaking the earth underneath them! Her heart was soaring, she was giggling madly and she leaned down and nuzzled him under his chin. Her tail was waving happily back and forth, a smile plasted on her face, and her eyes closed in bliss. He was here with her again! Everything was going to be good again. No. Not good... Fantastic!!
"Oh Hyde I've missed you..." She said softly, speaking at the same time he was. Her ears perked again when she caught his last statement. Beautiful...? Had she not had such a red coat he probably would have seen her blush. It wasn't until he licked her that she was stunned. She froze for a moment on top of him and just stared.
Anca squeeked happily and pounced her mate, obviously as happy as their gigantuian friends. "Oh Jeky! Jeky it worked!!!" She squeeked again, grinning from ear to ear and wiggling wildly. She was so excited she nearly ran out into the clearing and ran over the lions! Restraining herself she scrambled off Jekyll and darted through the bushes, wanting a closer look as the scene unfolded in front of them. As she drew closer she paused just a short distance from them. "Oh no... please don't run Vintage... this is all you've ever wanted...." She spoke, unaware that the lions could probably hear her.
Taking a deep breath she let it out slowly. Fur. Brushing. Him. His scent. His heart. Her heart. Beating together. "Hyde...." She said softly, her eyes coming open slowly. "What did you just say...?" Her voice was barely above a whisper. Her tail had stopped wagging and was laying over his. Her eyes were focused on his, her purr stopping. Ears perked forward, a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. Please... Please say that again... her mind raced.

There was no way Hyde would hear anything outside of the bubble of reality that had seemed to form around the two of them, he was completely caught up in it and it was both wonderful and daunting. Vintages words had only partially started to sink in when he found himself locked in her gaze, his heart felt about ready to jump out of his chest when there eyes had met and she spoke. Even as a whisper it echoed around him in surround sound, there was no going back not now, and as his eyes flicked away he felt himself draw back instantly.
The little male mouse had been watching willing them on, quietly confident the two made a great match just as Anca and himself did, who else would of thought of a plan so brilliant? And when she ran off he found himself following, his gaze desperately darting from the scene of the their lions back and forth to make sure he ended up in the same place. He was about to comment when he heard Vintage speak and instead found himself biting his tiny mouse lip and shifting closer to his mate. Come on buddy, don't mess this up, just say it already!
"I..." He faltered for a moment but just looking into those eyes, the pressure between the two of them at boiling point and the tone of her voice urging him on. "You're even more beautiful now, Vintage, you always have been!" Then her words sinked in fully, the tone, the gestures, the body contact all his dreams flashed before his eyes and as he leaned up close cheek to cheek and whispered back. "Words can't describe just how much I've missed you... I... I almost thought you where a dream... you're perfect to me Vintage."

"Oh Hyde..." she purred, her eyes closed once more. Leaning down she nuzzled him affectionately and licked his muzzle. She sat there for a moment, purring, thinking, loving. "I.... I love you Hyde." Her voice barely above a whisper once more. "You are all I have ever thought about... I feel so..... empty.... without you in my life." She kept her eyes closed, not wanting to break the moment by opening them and seeing his face contorted in denial. It was impossible... wasn't it? For them to love each other?
"Oh Jeky..." Anca was glowing with happiness, her tail circled her mate's as she leaned into him. "It has been too long..." She sighed blissfully, closing her eyes and grinning. "Do we give them more time? I want to see them so badly..." Although she wanted to see them, she would wait until it was the right time to appear to them.
Finally opening a single eye, Vintage eyed Hyde, her heart in her eyes and her purring ceasing.

Each of her words appeared as a rainbow of light to Hyde, it was as if he was high, which was entirely plausibly to be love. The adrenaline pumping through his veins, getting him this far in what was only a few moments seemed like the dream he'd had so often, over and over he still couldn't believe it but there he lay under Vintage and she'd just confirmed everything he felt and returned it.
"Make me the happiest Lion Vintage, please say we'll stay together? I love you so much... I can't live without you.... I won't! Not any more, you are my everything and life's not worth living without you in it." Hyde found himself starting gentle with his question but by his end statement he was firm and completely meant it. If this wasn't what life was worth living for then he couldn't do it any more, the happiest times in his life had been with her and if he couldn't keep and cherish them then well... he saw no point in carrying on with anything.
Smiling gently Jekyll leaned into his mate at the same time, turning, closing his eyes he nuzzled her gently letting his nose trail her fragile cheek bone. "Soon... just a few more moments my love, then we can all be together, finally" He had to stop himself laughing at his last word and found himself looking back at the lions and sighing.

Vintage opened both eyes wide as he spoke, a smile blossoming on her face. Her features were lit up with happiness and her head was pounding so hard she was sure that Hyde would have felt how strongly it was beating for him. "Your....mate? I would love to Hyde... I don't ever want to be away from you for so long again. It hurt so much, I was so lonely. Especially without Anca around..." She said with a sigh, relaxing into him, nuzzling her chin under his. "We have each other now... and forever Hyde." She purred lightly.
After a moment of lying in his embrace, Vintage rolled to the side, a look of pure bliss still plastered on her face. "Why were you gone so long?" She looked up at him, a look of slight confusion on her face. "I missed you so much..."

When she spoke he found his paws wrap around her gently but with purpose, she was his, finally and forever. He could feel his heart pounding and just assumed it was him in the moment without second guessing whether it was her's too, she sounded so confident just like always just another reason he loved her. So when she relaxed he firmed his grip protectively around her, he never wanted to let her go, at the mention of Anca his maw scrunched up in confusion itself.
"Anca? Jekyll hasn't been with me.. I thought they where with you?" As Vintage rolled to the side he found himself following her and rolling onto his side to keep a direct gaze, with his arm still under her. "Vintage.." He looked so dissapointed in himself but couldn't look away, he had to keep being honest "I was scared, you've always been too good for a goof like me. I never thought in a million sun sets that you could possibly feel the same way, well.. not outside a dream." Hyde found himself smiling now, he felt all the preasures of the world, his life and the situation melt away, Vintage was his mate..... His face lit up, that would never get old!

Catching herself purring continuously, Vintage blushed, only making the crimson color of her coat a bit darker. Knowing Hyde, he'd see it in an instant, which sent butterflies flitting through her chest and stomach. Boldly she wrapped her tail about his and nuzzled him lightly once more. Now that she knew that he was hers forever, she could nuzzle him and lick him and plain be around him without feeling odd or overly emotional.
"No, I thought they were with you Hyde... that's why I was so sad. Anca had disappeared along with Jeky and the babies. Well.. they arn't quiet babies anymore..." She said with a sigh and snuggled up closer to him. "You... really thought that? Why Hyde..." She said with a sound of distress mixed with delight. "I hadn't a single clue! I have loved you since I met you as a girl... I knew when I saw you I wanted to be around you forever. You are the only one who knew me as me, the goof. The goof that's perfect for this goof." She said with a lick to his muzzle. The butterflies went whirling again. Was it possible to die from too much love? If so... she must be dead and in heaven....

With a quick flick of his tail, slight n** at the edge of Anca's ear and a nod he gave the signal that it was safe for them to reveal themselves and join in the joyful occasion. Though Jekyll couldn't imagine his life without his mate he did remember the times before they met and the big lion before him had been his only companion for the longest of times. It had pained him to leave but his own life had to take presidents and as each of their litter grew and left their metaphorical nest neither of the adult mice could bare their big friends to live this way any more.
There was no missing that blush, not with such a direct and loving gaze. Why if he was to die right this instant he would be happy having seen their depths and being the receiver of her affection. "Can't deny it we are both complete goof balls." He chuckled, this was so comfortable, so easy with everything out in the open! Brining his paw up he gentle ran it across the warmth of her blush and savoured it for the coldest darkest nights and knew it would heat him no matter what was to come. "I did... You can't blame a lion though I mean... Vintage look at you and me, your so full of life and pretty I really... I really didn't think I stood a chance." Now it was his turn to blush and unfortunately for him his red was in completely the wrong places to even attempt to hide it. "Does this mean I have to go easy on you now?" He grinned playfully, would he have to be gentle with her just because they were mate? No he really didn't think so, and they would play again and every day for the rest of his lifes if they had their way he felt.
