Animal Totems - The Rabbit
Written by Usako_Rouge

User Image

The Rabbit teaches you how to plan and helps in setting things in motion. Often timid and constantly on guard, the Rabbit wants us to learn how to face our fear and know when to defend our space or just walk away.

It is said those with this totem are sensitive, artistic, plan for possibilities, check things in motion in the present, move carefully in work or play, and takes advantage of brief chances available. With lessons to create joy and faithfulness within our friendships.

When working with good luck, the Rabbit is the perfect instrument of magic. Her path guides us to go forward with positive anticipation, for Rabbits bring success to all endeavors.

As of February 3rd 2011, it is also the beginning of the year of the Rabbit. Happy Chinese New Year's.

MYTHOLOGY

Mythology - The Wolf Fenrir (Fenris)

Written by AdramlKisser

User Image

Fenrir (or Fenris) is a gigantic and terrible monster in the shape of a wolf. He is the eldest child of Loki and the giantess Angrboda. The gods learned of a prophecy which stated that the wolf and his family would one day be responsible for the destruction of the world. They caught the wolf and locked him in a cage. Only the god of war, Tyr, dared to feed and take care of the wolf.

When he was still a pup they had nothing to fear, but when the gods saw one day how he had grown, they decided to render him harmless. However, none of the gods had enough courage to face the gigantic wolf. Instead, they tried to trick him. They said the wolf was weak and could never break free when he was chained. Fenrir accepted the challenge and let the gods chain him. Unfortunately, he was so immensely strong that he managed to break the strongest fetters as if they were cobwebs.

After that, the gods saw only one alternative left: a magic chain. They ordered the dwarves to make something so strong that it could hold the wolf. The result was a soft, thin ribbon: Gleipnir. It was incredibly strong, despite what its size and appearance might suggest. The ribbon was fashioned of six strange elements: the footstep of a cat; the roots of a mountain; a woman's beard; the breath of fishes; the sinews of a bear; and a bird's spittle.

The gods tried to trick the wolf again, only this time Fenrir was less eager to show his strength. He saw how thin the chain was, and said that was no pride in breaking such a weak chain. Eventually, though, he agreed, thinking that otherwise his strength and courage would be doubted. Suspecting treachery however, he in turn asked the gods for a token of good will: one of them had to put a hand between his jaws. The gods were not overly eager to do this, knowing what they could expect. Finally, only Tyr agreed, and the gods chained the wolf with Gleipnir. No matter how hard Fenrir struggled, he could not break free from this thin ribbon. In revenge, he bit off Tyr's hand.

Being very pleased with themselves, the gods carried Fenrir off and chained him to a rock (called Gioll) a mile down into the earth. They put a sword between his jaws to prevent him from biting. On the day of Ragnarok, Fenrir will break his chains and join the giants in their battle against the gods. He will seek out Odin and devour him. Vidar, Odin's son, will avenge his father by killing the wolf.

A little Mythology Histoy: It is a huge wolf (usual height 15 feet tall) with human-like intelligence, vast strength and the capacity to change its shape to that of a god or to change its size to that of a real wolf. Before it reached maturity, Fenris threatened Iduna, keeper of the gods' golden apples of immortality, and was banished to Varinheim by Haakun the Hunter. This incident later became the basis for the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood. No wonder the wolf in that story is so terrifying, if I was 12 I'd be terrified of a 15 foot wolf!!

Pagan Humor

WHY M&M'S ARE WICCAN:

MM = Merry Meet
Round shape for wheel of the year, cycle of seasons
Skins are different colors, but the inside is the same chocolate, because we are all related.
Associations with the colors: Red = South Green = West Dark Brown =
North Yellow = East Orange = For the Solar God Light Brown = For the
Earth Mother (Copper Woman)
Rotate the M & M:
M = 13th letter of alphabet, and there are 13 witches in a coven
3 = Triple Goddess, three phases of moon
W = Witchcraft, Wiccan
E = Enlightenment, Enchantment of chocolate
"Melt in your mouth, not in your hand"--God/dess's love must be experienced directly to appreciate. Also, God/dess will take care of you.
Sweetness to remind us of how sweet the love of the God and Goddess is!

Pagan Music - Faith and the Muse
Written by addicted to sin

User Image

Faith and The Muse is a Dark Pagan Rock band founded by Monica Richards and William Faith in 1993. Their music is an eclectic mix of Folk, Gothic, New Wave, and Neopagan rock. Monica's voice serves well to paint images of epic battles, and magick of the old. She is accompanied by William Faith, who makes anyone want to embark in a journey into an ancient world.

They first erupted into the music scene with their debut album Elyria. The album sets a mood that can be incorporated into any rituals easily and naturally, while poetic lyrics also paint fantastical tales of the past. By their 3rd album Evidence of Heaven they changed their sound along with their record company, to a more dark wave aesthetic but still keeping the sense of mystery intact.

Today they continue to perform. Faith has also been a vocal contributor to The Eden House, a collective music project. Their last album was Ankoku butoh and hopes of another to come soon are high. This duo has remained a mesmeric group and only have more wonder and mystery to show us in the future.
