Tarot cards, how do they work?

I remember I wanted to have Tarot cards and I didn't had enough money to buy it. So my father gave me some.

I have a Rider-Waite deck. It's a classic deck, and many people are familiar with it's imagery, It's simple.

I have a little book with it, where all the meanings and combinations of the cards mean.

It doesn't look amazing compared to dragon or elf-decks. But I'd suggest this deck for beginners.

Could anyone suggest any layouts that could be good for beginners? I have a deck of my own, and was wondering if anyone had any spreads they like to use.
