You have a job waiting for you yeah? That's a nice thing to have. sweatdrop
There's a lot I miss about college, but being out of school after so long is nice too.

yeah, it is kind of sad, isn't it?
going to school on line i don't have any real physical friends to miss, but i already miss some of my old schoolmates anyway,
even moreso since many of them live in other countries and we shall never meet in person...

Lea Fealith You have a job waiting for you yeah? That's a nice thing to have. sweatdrop There's a lot I miss about college, but being out of school after so long is nice too. Yeah, I do. I'm lucky. But three years or study seems really short, so I wasn't sick of it yet. Aside from the people, I'm really going to miss the campus. It has the most beautiful old trees. They're huge. And some massive lawns which were really nice to sit on and have lunch. And I knew where all the good cafes were, I had my little hideaway in the library where all the teenage fiction books were that no one else seemed to know/care about, and where I could usually find a computer free... It was nice. sad

Here's my thing, and I could use some advice.
I have a valid 2 year degree.
I could get a job in Head Start, or at the prison, or as a classroom monitor (unofficial guard and goon) or where I'm at selling bait.
Or I can go back and get a 4 year degree which is mostly unwanted here unless I get into the school district which is doubtful.
But they need teachers and social workers and so on downstate
but I don't want to move.
And I am a month behind on my rent because of mild weather (less ice fishing)
So, what would you do?

Long time no see! Would you enjoy any of those jobs? Do they have any future/direction? Do they pay enough for you to live on? And what security prison is it? I don't think I'd like to work in a prison. I've visited a couple with school, and the guards all seemed to become very cynical. I wouldn't want to loose my empathy.

That's a really tough choice.
I would seriously consider the 4 year college if it meant you had more chances for a good job, but I personally do not have a problem with moving, and if that's a big deal to you I can see why you'd hesitate about bringing on more student debt.
If you can look at moving to a new place positively in anyway, I'd suggest broadening your search.

We have a medium security place near here.
The guys (no ladies, they are elsewhere) are mostly thieves, or did some unpremeditated but serious harm such as winning a knife fight, or mostly were caught with more than one gram of drugs.
I know several of them, we went to school together, so it would not seem too strange to me.
You do have to check for weapons all the time, and know how to break up a fight without killing anybody (takedowns).
I would rather just take people fishing and hiking, especially since they might shut down the prison and consolidate everybody down at NYC to save money anyway.
But business is really slow, the economy you know. People with money no longer think they can afford to come up here.

Knowing the people in prison would make it even more stranger to me! xd
I don't know... if you really just want a job to pay the bills to tide you over until the economy and tourism picks back up, then maybe you should just try to get one of those jobs?

i could get a job at a convenience store here that would pay more than i make as a nanny
especially considering the travel
but i disdain it because they accept high school kids so it would be like saying my hard won college degree was worth nothing,
which i guess makes me a snob.
an underemployed snob, at that.
