I reread books because I want to reenter a familiar world. Another reason is because of Christmas. I love books and my parents know that and get me lots of them for christmas. So when it's only a few days till christmas I'll read something I've already read that way if I get something for christmas that I want to pick up right away I can set the book I've already read off to the side for a while and not have to think about what happens because I already know. I also like trying to find things that I've missed or forgotten since I've last read the book. I usually only reread the books that are my very favorites though.
Books I've Reread The Shadow Of The Wind The Giver Bud, Not Buddy Hatchet Poison
There's prolly more but I can't think of them at the moment.

The books that I usually re-read are those that have a deep emotional impact on me. I cannot sleep, rest, or think about anything else except that book. There have been only a few times when that has happened.
Eragon and Eldest. ~ I stayed up REALLY late at night to finish up Eldest. Mind you, it was a school night.
Garden of Angels~ Made me cry both times I read it. crying
Fruits Basket vol. 1~ My friend let me borrow this volume. I read it 14 times in one day. It was my first time reading manga, though I don't think that explains the reason why I read it so many times.

I re-read books all the time -- and I know I probably should read other things. Every time I go to the book store, I always tell myself that I have plenty of things at home that I haven't read yet...
BOOKS I'VE RE-READ All the Harry Potter books except DH First four Artemis Fowl books Taggerung Wicked Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy The 10th Kingdom (and I've probably seen the miniseries more times than is healthy) Fellowship of the Ring Two Towers The Hobbit (like seven times...) All the Series of Unfortunate Events books except 'The End'
...I guess that really isn't that many. 29 out of who knows how many books I've actually read total. I'm sure that list'll get bigger, though -- I want to go back and reread the Redwall series; I've forgotten so much about some of them.

I re-read any book that I have that I enjoyed. Mostly its because I don't have any new books or because I want to catch up on a series. But there are a few books that I can keep reading over and over.

Sometimes it is esentual to reread books, especially series that take a long time to finish. You may forget details in a book that become important in a later related story.
One book I tend to reread every few years is Watchers by Dean Koontz.

Lord of the Rings (I usually read this about once a year, and I usually notice something new each time)
Harry Potter series, initially because I wanted to make sure I remembered everything when a new book came out, and now for pure joy
Briar Rose by Janet Yolen. A great book but it's usually a couple of years between reads because it can be emotionally draining.
And anything else that I have enjoyed that sounds good at the time.
