You three don't understand the purpose of Gothicism. It isn't about what store you baught it from... Gothics are not punk...
Weeeelll... technically, since Goth is a development of punk (the dark/romantic side of punk, if you will), it is still about the same sense of individualism and non-norm that gave birth to punk.
Any subculture prides itself in NOT being popular, in not being conformist, in praising the individual.
Of course there is a sub-uniformity, there always is when one tries to belong to any group (think of the black as standard theme).
But this is not a sociology discussion, this is a question of style. We're not arguing whether or not buying off teh rack is acceptable and goth or not.
We're talking goth fashion for the sewing enthusiast.
And as such I'd like to say it is still my dream to create my own corset one day.
In my heydays of gothdom, I made most of my (non-PVC) clothes myself. My style was mostly medieval, with some roccoco and romance elements for beautiful frills.
To answer the initial question: my favourite elements of goth fashion are bondage (corsets, medieval cross-ribbons), lace (especially rich, spilling lace), choker collars, belts and buckles, and wide, flowy sleeves. But I've always been into the softer side of goth fashion.
