Just now, Tony Gonzalez, long time tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, arguably the greatest tight end in the history of the game, has been traded to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2nd round draft pick in 2010.

Thoughts. Mine, great for Matt Ryan. Will help him greatly. Another good receiver.

Only a second round draft pick? In 2010? And NOW I don't understand why they fired Herm. This helps Matt Ryan, which is one of my favorite QBs, but what does this do for Matt Cassel? Did KC's staff just get high off of hash and listened to "I Am the Walrus" for a couple hours to help them make their decision?

I think it will help Atlanta out alot, another great option for Ryan to throw to.
Cheifs made a mistake trading him, but I think they'll live. Btw, Im glad Atlanta wasn't stupid enough to trade a 1st rounder. He's really not worth it IMO.

Yeah, but it also seems like a 2nd rounder is too little. To compare a fiftieth draft pick or so to an athlete of Tony Gonzalez's calibur seems odd.

I really wanted the Giants to trade for Tony Gonzalez...

Well at least he has a good fit in Atlanta, and he actually has a good chance to win a playoff game. Great deal for the Falcons. I know that Gonzo wanted to win now, but I don't know what the Chiefs were thinking.

Gonzalez is arguably the best tight end ever to play in the NFL, and he had a great career in Kansas City.

Tony Gonzalez is 33. That's a little old to be trading a first rounder.

Wow, this is a really good thing for the Falcons. All of the weapons we have now, Ryan, Turner, White, Gonzalez, and Jenkins! Absolutely tremendous of the Atlanta potential. As-long as they don't screw it up in the draft and decide to go offense (other than O-line) instead of defense we have a great shot at the NFC South, maybe even a championship run.

Good trade. Dont know how effective he will be in Atlanta with them running a different style of Offense, but the similarities are close enough he should do well enough

As much as I don't like seeing Tony leave KC, I can't blame him.

"I want to win the Superbowl" he stated. Tony isn't a young guy anymore, his career is winding down and time is running out.

SO even though I wouldn't say Atlanta is the Ideal team to go to if you want to win a Superbowl, his chances are better with the Falcons than with the Chiefs... as long as the Falcons don't turn out to be a one year fluke.

I know that was a bad choice from the chiefs, because matt cassel needed someone as good of a tight end as Tony Gonzalez, so i hope, the chiefs pick good or else?

Umm, no offense and dont want to burst any of you Falcons fans bubble, but if you look at the Falcons history, they are good one year and then have a down year the next. Now I dont know if that will truly happen with this QB, but you always have to be aware of the sophmore slump

Are you high... On meth?
I'm feeling like you're a Falcon hater. Also what does the up and down years of late have to do with now with a whole new system. Also the Falcons are a run first team, so it's not like Matt Ryan is going to have a great deal of pressure on his shoulders.

Not a Falcon hater. Just looking at it from a 3rd party view and also that history does tend to show through at all times until proven that it will be broken. Falcons have made all the right moves in the past and have been found wanting in the end. Last year showed they have tremendous potential, but they also showed they had severe drawbacks as well. I have schooled a die hard, and I mean like if he bleeds, he bleeds falcon blood die hard fan, with the info and history of the Falcons. Now dont get me wrong here, I do hope they do well, it is just so hard break out of the "curse" of the one on-one off Falcons. Once again, they have the pieces, so lets see what happens. But FYI, will not matter against Philly and NYG. Them two healthy and the refs are not boning them hard and constantly, they will be the only two in the NFC this year and the next.

Remember this though, NYG, Philly, NE and Pitt, the most overall successful teams this past decade, have all built their teams with long term aspirations instead of hear and now. Falcons have finally started that so if they conitinue to follow those teams' blueprints, they will have a nice run and continue to not have their on and off years.

As for that high comment? Yeah, I am. I am high on being a daddy to a beautiful baby girl who is only 14 months old and already knows how to speak select full sentences and can read a few simple words as well. So yeah, high on being a daddy. LMFAO!!

I was also taking this from a 3rd party perspective. I'm not a Falcons fan, and even stated that there is the possibility that the Falcons could be a 1 year fluke. But even if they are, I still say that the Falcons, who now has a young, progressive team with playoff experience, has better odds of going to and winning a superbowl than a Rebuilding franchise in the Chiefs.

To back my statement up, here is the current vegas odds for the 2009/2010 season for the two teams.

Atlanta Falcons- 30/1
Kansas City Chiefs- 100/1

Only teams with similar or worse odds than the Chiefs at this point are the Raiders, Rams, and Lions. Note, these odds are expected to change the closer we get to the start of the 2010 season.

... and one last thing mate, for the most part your right about the success of the NY Giants, Eagles, Patriots, and Steelers, but don't leave out the Colts. The Colts are at the very least just as successful in the past decade as any of those teams.
