The Kansas City Chiefs have found their starting quarterback. NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs completed a trade for New England Patriots QB Matt Cassel on Saturday.
The teams have agreed on compensation, according to Schefter, but no details of the deal were immediately available.
Cassel was designated as the Patriots’ franchise player on Feb. 5, guaranteeing him $14.65 million next season. The signed tender was officially submitted to the league earlier this week.
Cassel saw the first significant action of his career last season, taking over as the starter for the injured Tom Brady in Week 2 and starting 15 games, completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.
Cassel would see some familiar faces in Kansas City. Schefter also reports Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel wasin Kansas City on Friday undergoing a physical so that he can then be traded to the Chiefs. Vrabel later confirmed the trade in an email to The Boston Globe. Cassel and Vrabel would be playing for new Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, who was hired in January to oversee the team’s football operations after nine seasons in New England.
Pioli seems to want all his guys from NE lol, He now has Vrable and Castle. This move to get a great QB will deffinately keep Gonzales happy, the Chiefs may turn some heads this season.

No doubt a good move by the Patriots, Brady will definitely be ready and they clear a very substantial amount of Salary-cap by making this move. But they could have gotten way more for these two, bad move on that part.

Cassel and Vrabel go to the Kansas City Chiefs, and the New England Patriots get a 2009 second round draft pick.
This is a very good trade by both teams. Helps them just about equally.
The Chiefs were in need of a QB, and got a good one in Cassel. A strong and smart QB that can run the team, Cassel brings leadership and potential to the offense. Cassel will also work well with Pioli, like Warner did last season. Also, since the defense is young, Vrabel is a good linebacker addition, that could teach the others and add veteran leadership. I predict the Chiefs to select Aaron Curry with their third overall pick in the Draft, and he could learn a lot from Vrabel.
Since Tom Brady is projected to be completely healthy for the start of the season, the Patriots made a good trade. Vrabel is getting older, and New England wanted to make it's defense younger, especially at linebacker. The Patriots franchised Cassel earlier this month, and would have owed him a ton of money. With this move, the Patriots clear out a ton of salary cap space. Also, the Chiefs' second round pick in April is low (35th overall), so it's more like a late first rounder. The Patriots normally have good scouting, so they will make a lot out of this valuable pick.

It's a more brilliant move that it seems to be at face value. The reason was the lack of need for teams of Cassel's arm. Despite him being a high rung quarterback, not a lot of teams were prepared for his due salary (which was going to be Tom Brady levels).
Then by sending Vrabel in the package, they unloaded a linebacker that was declining and highly unlikely to return after the 2009 season.
This gave them their 4th pick in the first 2 rounds of this upcoming draft, freed a ton of cap space for long term or free agent signings, and gave Cassel a new home where he's guaranteed a starting role to lead the Chiefs to wins.
It's good for all.

Personally this move pisses me off. With bringing in Kellen Winslow II, the Buccaneers should have taken advantage of this and traded for Castle. I have faith ion McCown, but for this cheap of a price, they could have landed a great QB, and a old linebacker (which we could have traded to Kansas City xd )
I'm a little pissed that they didnt take advantage but oh well.
I'm hopin that my Bucs can maybee get TJ WhoseYoMama in the next few days.......and rey Lewis would always be nice biggrin but maybee i'm being a little greedy.

Yeah, the Bucs could have franchised Garcia, and sent him along with Brooks to the Patriots in exchange for Cassel, in virtually the same deal. xd ...Anyways, I don't see the Buccaneers getting either Houshmandzadeh or Lewis. TJ has just gone through hell with the Bengals, and wants to win quickly. The Ravens let Bart Scott go, so they'll do whatever it takes to keep Ray.

Rey Lewis for enough money could come to tampa and solve our LB problem so you never know.

Overall, I won't say it was a bad move for the Patriots, nor was it a good move, at best I would say it was risky.
This shows commitment to Tom Brady after talk of possible QB controversy in New England, but when last I heard Brady is still behind in his rehab. Even though Team Doctors say he's doing well, we still don't know if he will be ready and at 100% by the start of the regular season. And if he's not then the team needs a reliable backup to step in and start if that be the case. Maybe they can land a nice back up in the draft or free agency, but in the near future, we cannot say if this will work for or against the Patriots favor till the beginning of the season. This just in. A report states that the Patriots supposedly could have gotten a lot more for Cassel or Vrabel. A multiple team trade that could have involved Jay Cutler or higher draft picks was stated. Teams included in the report are the Patriots, Chiefs, Broncos, Buccaneers, and Lions.
...I hope that the NFL investigates this.
