This roleplay is one of the requirements to Apply for Sergeant - you cannot post in this roleplay with your character until you have submitted an application. Alister Shields | Calla Bianchi | Jeremiah Philips | Mirisua Cisan
--- Karayan sat behind his large wooden desk, one that he had used ever since his promotion to Lieutenant alongside Shizuka White, and one that he would soon have to leave behind. But the change would not be bittersweet, rather a welcomed retirement, for he was well past his prime and ready to allow the new generation to take control of the patrol.
A glance to the side as he watched Riya, seated beside him, flip through a small pile of papers in a folder. Karayan had no doubts that the young Lieutenant would be a very good commander, for she had been raised by none other than Shizuak and had shown a natural leadership ability. But she was still young and fresh to the position, and it would take another month or two before she settled into her newfound authority. To have so much pressure thrown onto her shoulders so unexpectedly...
Riya looked up as she felt a pair of eyes boring into her head, raising an eyebrow at the Captain's steady gaze. Then he turned away to filter through the files on his desk and she returned to the one she had taken, though her mind was racing.
The two of them had decided on a group interview for every potential candidate for Sergeant - all of whom had sent in their applications a week ago. After looking through all the applications, they (along with Shizuka) had picked out the few that they deemed worthy of promotion, but any final decisions would be made after a personal interview. They were quite familiar with everyone in the patrol, but a group interview would provide an interesting environment that would no doubt reveal the ones who would do well in command...
Karayan and Riya glanced up as the door opened.

The door didn't just open, the door flew open and nearly broke off its hinges from the sheer force of the intruder's kick. One could not miss, despite their feverous praying, the wide, frighteningly malevolent smile that crossed the new arrival's face. Once could also not help fear from crawling up their spine as soon as they realized the identity of the person: Shizuka.
"I'M HERE!!!" Shizuka announced as she threw open her arms, unfortunately not up because of the extra weight from the large bags in hanging off both arms which might have killed some of the dramatic impact, and stood there as though waiting for applause. It took her a moment to realize the applicants had not arrived yet and slowly her arms were lowered and a she frowned. Her depression was short lived, as always.
"Oh! Little Riya's here and even Captain K!" a smile appeared on her face. "I brought snacks~" She sing happily while holding up her bags to show them. "I figured someone would either get hungry or need to be tortured sometimes during this nice little gathering so I'm well prepared!" She handed both a sandwich with suspicious green substance oozing out from the side before setting a chair next to Riya and sitting down with a sandwich of her own in hand. She took a thoughtful bite out of her food. "Hm… Feral was right. It does need more salt."

Calla stood before the mirror one final time, brushing off her white uniform and noticing the buttons were off. With a sigh she fixed this and looked herself over again. Straitening her pants and sliding on her boots she ran her hand through her short hair quickly and nodded. Squaring her shoulders she slipped out of the barrack with a smile on her face and an air of confidence. Today was going to be good, that’s what she kept telling herself. She knew she had to approach this with a positive attitude or it wouldn’t go well at all. So what if she was probably newer to White Shadow than anyone else applying, she still had ten years of experience under her belt. She also had a multitude of cards to play.
Making her way towards the office at a pace comparable to a swagger Calla waved cheerfully to anyone she passed. Forcing herself to note only good things around her as she approached the office and slipped inside. Navigating the hallways with ease as she followed Shizuka’s voice she soon found the door, still open, and peeked in. Karayan, Riya, and Shizuka were all already present but it seemed no one else had appeared yet. Taking a deep breath she checked herself over one more time and exhaled as she walked through the door and took a seat, stretching herself out comfortably.
“So I’m the first one here?” She asked conversationally, “I had assumed I was going to be late.” She added on, making sure to keep her tone polite. These were her superiors after all, and from what she could tell White Shadow was a tad more uptight about formalities than New Eve had been. Unless she got promoted she’d have be keep her regular pistol-waving as restrained as she possibly could, a task she’d given to WoodWhisp.

A lazy flick of his hand through the crimson tipped gold locks ruffled them for a moment before they settled back into the faint wave about his shoulders. Everything was in order, he was as presentable as he was ever going to be so it made no sense for him to stall any longer. A brief glance behind him revealed the black wolf sprawled in the den staring intently at him in what could only be amusement. There was something else hidden beneath that quiet amusement though he didn't bother to question what it was. Whatever it was...would no doubt make itself known when he got back considering right now he was no doubt late, and being late for such a meeting really wasn't the best way to make a good impression.
Taking one step away from the mirror and then another before he stopped long enough to trail a hand lightly through the wolf's fur. Quiet reassurance. Even if he didn't get the promotion he'd still have Twilight which in itself was more than enough of an honor. Still...straightening with a final nod to the wolf, a promotion would be a good thing. Turning on his heel, he marched out of his room and down the hall. It was several long moments before he arrived at his destination and gave himself one final check over before knocking lightly on the door, which from the slight creak it gave seemed to be rather abused.
The room seemed rather empty, save for his superiors...and one other. The other inhabitant of the room made him bite his tongue lest he say something he'd regret later on, instead he saluted not taking a seat as yet. "Terribly sorry for being late." A rare nugget of truth considering he hadn't meant to be late, assuming he was, it had merely been a matter of actually extracting himself from the warm, and surprisingly comfortable nest he'd set up next to Twilight the night before. Not that his own bed wasn't comfortable...he just preferred the added warmth of the wolf.

Unfortunately for the Alphariders, the first person who slammed open the door was not who they had thought (or hoped) it to be. There stood the former Captain in all her glory and with a basket that made both Karayan and Riya cringe in suspicion. Sure, they had invited the woman to attend the interview, but hadn't actually thought she would come...
Karayan grinned at the new nickname - it sure beat being called Lulu. But his face fell as she produced her 'snacks,' and the color clearly drained from his now pale face as he gulped, wondering if it was too late to run out and leave Riya to interview the candidates alone. But he managed a polite though hesitant "Thank you" as a sandwich was set down before him.
Riya had to keep a straight face as Shizuka sat down beside her, taking out her own sandwich and taking a bite into the all to familiar green blob. An involuntary shiver slid down her spine at the sight, watching with horror as Shizuka made a casual comment about its flavor. Riya tried to avoid looking at the one that was now in front of her...
Both were rescued from any polite gesture of eating the provided sandwich when an unfamiliar woman slipped into the door. They looked up, watching as Calla casually spoke up and took a seat.
Riya narrowed her eyes at the lack of formalities shown from the New Eve transfer - from one of Damien's subordinates, she had expected at least a salute. But before anyone else could speak up, the young Lieutenant said in a tone that did not hide her annoyance, "Clearly, they do not teach you any manners at New Eve. How you even managed to graduate from the Academy is beyond me."
But any further cold comments from the young woman were silenced by a second arrival, the familiar face of Alister who was the reason why the other applicant was seated before them. The Alphariders knew why Calla had wanted to transfer here, but they also had their doubts of how well the two would work together as Sergeants. Whether they could put the patrol before each other was the challenge, one that may have to be tested.
"Right on time," Karayan answered with a curt nod of acknowledgement, gesturing to one of the empty chairs for Alister to take a seat. And indeed, the first two applications were right on time - anyone who arrived now would be late and looked upon disfavorably.

Miri had been walking down the hall to the door she had long hoped to enter. Now was her chance, and she was quite scared. She could sense Darkwind's mind, who kept trying to tell her something and stopped, something about Dark trying not to intervene and this was a good experience, etc. Miri had prepared for the day, though she couldn't do much with the uniform. She had washed it, and ironed it (ooc: I don't know if they had irons, sorry), and she had tied her hair back into a long ponytail.
So here she was, too late, but there was a slight chance that she still had a chance of becoming a sergeant. She knocked three times on the door frame, since the door was already open, walked through into the room, and gave a small salute before saying, "I'm soo sorry I'm late."
(ooc:Sorry, my post was saved on my dad's laptop and then my brother installed something there and the thing he installed had a virus... so I couldn't get to it, really really sorry)

Calla quickly corrected herself as Riya spoke. “My deepest apologies Captain Karayan, Lieutenant Riya, ” Calla stood and saluted the each in turn as she spoke, “I was greatly mistaken in believing my great respect and gratitude I have for the two of you was assumed. Please forgive this mistake, it won't happen again.” She took her seat again just as her superior’s attention was drawn away to a new arrival. Calla struggled to prevent grinning at him in the most malicious way possible, she had already been informed that he was going to be here. WoodWhisp had heard from Twilight. And from the look on his face he hadn’t a clue that Calla was going to be here. “Alister.” She said, her tone was conversational as she nodded at him politely, but beneath that there was a familiar mocking tone that she was sure Alister would pick up on. She doubted the Captain or Lieutenant would though, they didn’t know her THAT well yet. Yes, she realized it was probably too early to apply for Sergeant considering she had transferred so recently, but it was worth the risk. Only good could come, her Superior’s getting to know her better or an actual promotion. Either worked for her. “Mirisua.” Again her tone was polite, but lacking the mocking undertone she had used with Alister. She nodded to the girl standing behind him with a smile. Calla had made a point of quickly memorizing every name she came across, acquainting herself with the fort as quickly as possible. Considering soon Winter would be over and she would be fighting with these people, it wouldn’t be the same squad she was used to.

Shizuka was quietly folding a napkin over her unfinished sandwich while Riya, quite amusingly, insulted both the first little girl applicant and Damien in one hit. The retired captain was always happy when her 'lessons' of intimidation paid off. However, she was also in no way pleased with the hopeful applicants that arrived in the room. One failed … generally every lesson of respect known to wolf-kind, the second failed to greet his superiors by rank, and the third wasn't even worthy of mention.
Shizuka glared at Miri after the women stopped blabbering. "Do you know how to read a clock, child?" The women rolled her eyes. "Don't even answer that; I fear the answer."
The retired captain then smiled coldly at the three idiots before her and sighed a long, sorrowful sigh as though the world would end right there and then. "It's so sad, Riya," The woman spoke clearly and mockingly, clearly insulting the hopeful applicants. She turned away from with a clearly disgusted expression as though she could no longer stand looking at them for an extended period of time.
Her attention drifted to Karayan. "Lulu, are they not required to address their superiors by rank anymore? Or is the fort just deteriorating as we speak? I thought we were suppose to be looking at promising individuals not …" her eyes flickered towards the unranked wolfriders. She stopped in mid-sentence as though it would just be a waste of breath to attempt to describe their stupidity aloud. She then smiled kindly; her point was made.

A slight nod, as he spared a glance at Miri from the corner of his eye before taking a seat. One away from Calla, which was as far as he could go given the limited number of chairs. Giving a brief nod of acknowledgement, Alister settled his gaze on the seated captins and lieutenant. There was really nothing that could be said for Shizuka's appearant...distaste for them really. Though the feeling of sitting before firing squad he knew was going to no doubt increase with the presence of the retired captin and if her earlier remarks were anything to go by, this firing squad was playing with loaded rifles. This...probably wasn't going to end well. Letting out a slow breath, he straightened, he'd applied and he'd gotten this far which meant he wasn't about to back down.

Karayan had to admit that he was disappointed by the two White Shadow patrons as they had both been under Shizuka's command before, and they should've known how a**l she was about addressing a superior by title. As for the New Eve transfer, he had always though they were stricter on formalities in the first fort, but he could be wrong. Then again, this process was no doubt a bundle of nerves, and he remembered his own interview - Shizuka had been more confident than the previous Alphariders, but he had been a nervous wreck.
"Ah, they just miss you so much, Lady Shizuka. The pain of not seeing you everyday has caused them to lose their minds... and manners," the Captain answered in a slightly playful but mostly serious tone, knowing the comment would probably appease Shizuka. But did she really have to call him Lulu again? He had been hoping the new Captain K nickname would become permanent...
Riya registered the urge to laugh, though it was a good save. But no need for more torment and she glanced over the applicants with a serious look. Her arms were folded neatly on the table, back straight and eyes alert as she studied each candidate carefully. They were three of the only four that had been deemed capable of taking up the rank of Sergeant, the last not present because of an illness. But none of the current three had made a good impression as of yet, still, they still had the opportunity to correct that.
"Now, I do believe we got off on the wrong foot," Riya said in a soft but threatening tone, her kind smile dripping with mockery as her eyes glinted with a deeper purpose. The Lieutenant was not pleased, but she believed in second chances when everyone had failed the first time around. "Why don't we start over? All of you should leave, then come back in and greet the three of us properly. And in case some of you never learned how to do that," she eyed all three of them with a cold look, "that means saluting, addressing us by our titles, and then stating your name and rank. Then you will wait to be acknowledged before sitting down or saying anything else."
A pause as Riya raised an annoyed eyebrow. "Go."

Mentally Calla kicked herself, wasn’t one wrong start enough? Growling at herself mentally she stood up and saluted Riya, “Yes Ma’am.” If once listened close they would have been able to hear the gratefulness and relief hiding beneath Calla’s tone. She was indeed thankful that the Lieutenant had decided to give them a second chance. As odd as it was She was slightly nervous about the whole affair on top of other things of varying levels of importance flitting about her mind. Slipping outside she leaned aginst the wall briefly to pull herself together before facing the room again. You’re capable of thinking aren’t you Calla? Captain Karayan, Lieutenant Riya, and…Shizuka? No, that couldn’t be right. What had she heard so far? Scary, antagonizing, ex-captain….Goddess? Yes, Goddess would do, and with any luck it would get her back on the mad woman’s good side. After a moment of getting her thoughts in order and a deep breath Calla turned back to the door, knocked on the frame as she entered, and saluted. “Captain Karayan, Lieutenant Riya, Goddess Shizuka. Private Calla Bianchi here for the Sergeant Interview.” She said, ignoring the fact that the blood was quickly rushing from her fingers and her hand was starting to tingle, forcing herself to stay at attention until she was properly acknowledged. Yes, things were certainly different around here, it would be rather interesting to see how much she would be able to get away with.

Miri nodded to soon-to-be lieutenant. She couldn't stand what the former captain, Shizuka had said, and after Calla had left, and Miri had soon followed her, her hands were still shaking uncontrollably, and she could still feel the burning feeling of being in such anger. She waited for her turn to make her intro. Even though she was mad, she had to keep under control, something she had to practice. Meanwhile, she had to think of some title for dear Shizuka, something that would hopefully please her, like, like, and with that, she got it. When Calla was done, Miri put on an impassive face and took a deep breath before entering the room once more.
Miri started my saluting the three who were higher rank than her. Then she addressed each one with a slight nod. "Greetings Captain Karayan, Lieutenant Riya, and oh mighty, great, queen-of-earth Shizuka. This is Private Mirisua Cisan for the sergeant interview." She then moved out of the way of the door.

"Ma'am." He was on his feet in an instant and saluting Riya before marching himself out the door. First he'd almost been late and now this little incident. Oh how this day didn't seem to be going well.
A steady knot of nerves was turning and dragging at his innards and he let out a steady slow breath to steady himself before he turned back to the door not yet entering. There was the question of how exactly to appease Shizuka. Something akin to flattery as much as it would make him mentally choke. The words that drifted through his brain didn't exactly seem suitable. With a sigh he trailed a weary hand through his hair before straightening and moving back through the door.
Drawing up beside the other two privates he pulled a salute, remaining at attention as the words flowed from his lips even as his mind tried to wrap around the concept of just what he was saying. "Captain Karayan, Lieutenant Riya, and your Highness Shizuka. Private Alister Shields here for the Sergeant Interview."

Shizuka glanced towards Karayan as he spoke then smiled in amusement. "I suppose you're right, Sir K. That would make the most sense." She sighed dramatically, looking thoughtful for a minute before continuing, unfortunately for the current captain, "The only solution is for me to attend more meetings, be around more. I expect to know about every gathering that happens from now on." She nodded, feeling better already, and turned her attention back towards whatever the other little people were up to.
She watched as the privates all obediently marched right back out the door with their little tails tucked neatly between their legs, as it should be. Truthfully, she had missed what Riya had said but thought little of it. 'Oh, they're leaving,' was really all that passed Shizuka's mind. In the meantime, she reached down to retrieve from her bag a small leather-covered notebook that looked fairly worn away with age. The retired-captain then looked up expectantly as the sounds of the first arriving private entered. 'Oh, people,' was the expression that passed over her facial expression and she sat up. It was actually very hard to tell whether or not she knew the same people were coming in again…
Goddess Shizuka? Now, she liked the sound of that. Shizuka put a mental check next to Calla. The next child to enter also offered a wonderful rank… a little long but still good. Mental check. Then the little boy entered. Highness? Now that was actually very accurate. And check.
Shizuka smiled at them then turned to Riya with almost childish excitement. "It's that nice, Riya? If only the first three were as charming." Hopefully, that was sarcastic.

Karayan and Riya turned their head towards Shizuka with carefully concealed looks of horror. Be around more? True, it would essentially be good for the patrol since the former Captain had a way of beating up on the little people. But it would turn out to be extremely stressful if not deadly for the current commanders. In fact, Karayan thought he may just die of a heart attack if she attended another round of interviews.
Riya subtly kicked Karayan's leg, rather hard, because his attempt to save those useless little people had ended up backfiring in their face. The Lieutenant would've thrown her chair at the three applicants if they had actually still been in the room. At least they were now obediently walking back in one by and one and addressing their superiors properly. Though she was quite amused by the creative titles they had for Shizuka.
"How fortunate for these three," the young woman responded with a brief glance at Shizuka, wondering if the former Captain was serious or not. But then Riya decided that she didn't really care. "At ease," she acknowledged the three as she motioned for them to take their seats.
"Now tell us, what do you think you can bring to this Fort?" Riya asked as she picked up a pen. The question was meant to be slightly vague as she wanted to see how each one answered - their responses would tell her quite a lot about each individual.
