If I lived in a steampunk world, I would get around in...
  An airship
  A steam car
A steampunky bike of some kind
  Some kind of motorcycle
  Whatever I could stea- I mean...Commandeer
  A horse driven cart
  On foot
  On horse back
A hot air baloon just big enough for me and my stuff
Do I have to choose just one? D:

ok, I'm getting some cash soon. I want to spend it on some steampunk stuff (or materials to make my own steampunk stuff) I need to decide on what to get.

So far I'm thinking about getting something like my avi has. A duster coat, steampunky boots, gloves, straps, etc etc. (though I want more complex goggles) And some more odds and ends.

What do you think? Think I should do that or go for the swallow tail tux and top hat look? Or something post-apocalyptic maybe?

Just toss any sugestions and pics you have out there and I'll see what I like. thanks :3

(also, bonus pole just for the fun of it)

I think you should look for things like you have on your avi. That's already an example of your personal style, and it's more unique that simply the swallow tail tux and top hat. A top hat is a good accessory to have, though, because it can be added to a lot of different Steampunk outfits.

Yea, I'd say a top hat is good because it can go with pretty much any look. Just look at my current avi. It fits right in with a more rugged western look but can also work with more formal clothes. You might want to do some shopping at the local hardware store for neat odds-and-ends that would look good stuck together. I'm always on the lookout for something that I can convert into a new pair of goggles.

Also, suspenders. That is all.

Hmm, I'll just recount my own plans and see if anything good comes of it. Once I get some money, I'm getting some colored spectacles (hopefully some shades with circular green lenses), and some cheap goggles. I'm currently debating whether to get the cheap motorcycle/aviator style goggles (with the flat, angular lenses), or the raver/welder style goggles (with round lenses and curved eyecups). I want some cheap mass-produced ones that I can modify and wear around, since I doubt they'll be SO cheap that I can't actually wear them. There's also a really nice compacting telescope with a leather case on the Gentleman's Emporium (cough). Now that I think of it, there are a few more items there I'd like to pick up soon...

As for stuff to make for myself, I plan to get some cheap leather, either by itself or off some cheap old clothes. And a few cheap magnifying glasses. And then I'm making my OWN goggles, which likely will be too fragile to put to practical use (ie mainly decorative). I have everything else needed to make goggles, like spraypaint, sewing stuff, even some punch-based metal snaps, just need leather and some lenses -- the magnifying lenses won't be the actual goggle lenses, they'll be attached on little arms. I'm also planning to get a decent soldering kit so that I might make some gadgety-looking stuff.

I already have a pocketwatch and a compass that I bought recently... All of the clothes I want are online, I'm not really willing to spend so much for clothes I can't try on beforehand. I don't trust my meager sewing sills enough to try and make non-costume clothing without a sewing machine, so making clothes myself is, at the moment, not an option. I'm also in the market for a cheap, worn top-hat and a cheap vest, but again that's something I'd have to go out and by in person, which would require I get a friend to drive me around and pay for gas while searching for thrift stores...

Hopefully there's some sensible suggestions up there!
