There were butterflies traipsing up her one crimson leg, little black insects with beautiful wings placed black on her red fur. Papillons. They had been there since her birth. She rather liked them.
But they were the only wings she had.
Akiilani longed for what she wasn't given. So many times she'd trotted proudly after her mother, admiring the raven-black feathers at her sides. So many times she'd played with Malta, who had feathers covered in stardust, or daydreamed with Astra, whose wings were coal black with long guard feathers. Her sisters were built to soar the skies, just like Carmine.
And Lani? She was built to roam the earth, just like Dad, even though her heart longed to be in the clouds.
Which is where her head was today.
Her tail was dark, fading down to a magenta hue, braided and beaded. The Indians in the Village did it when she was a weanling. Now it flicked back and forth, batting against her sides as she idly plodded down an unseen trail.
Life was so simple sometimes, she decided with a lazy smile.

Edel had what so many would love, and she never used them. Her wings were what made her stand out so boldly and yet she strode along the ground, keeping herself aware of anything around her.
She was never one for big dreams, all she'd expected in life was just to live through it. She didn't ask for anything but her own solitude. She enjoyed the soft sounds of the nature around her, listening to the animals that were smaller then her, and the insects that buzzed high above her head. One day, she might just join them.
Of course, one thing that also held her back, was her unfortunate luck. When she really wished to be alone, of course she'd be bothered. She could hear someone coming toward her on the barely visible trail.

Lani swung her hips from side to side, following the trail and listening to the music playing in her head. Not real music, but perhaps music that she made up? Or maybe no music at all. All that's for certain is that the mare was pretty much dancing as she walked.
As she reached the climax of the hill, she looked down the path, ears pricking up at an unfamiliar sight.
There was a big...blue...bug... She snorted, dancing to the side, then quickly trotted forwards. As she neared the little blue thing, she realized that it wasn't an insect at all but a horse with insect wings! Dragonfly wings! And, oddly enough, a blindfold across her eyes and a tail that looked barbed and deadly.
"Are you a mix breed of Kalona?" she asked curiously.

Edel watched her approaching stranger carefully, well she didn't actually watch, she merely paid close attention to her ever move. Every little shuffle, or twitch helped Edel establish some kind of personality for the ,obviously a female, Mare before her. She came to a slow stop when she heard a question asked about her. Even she didn't know her full extent of family.
"It's quite possible, though I think more of the flutter in me." She fluttered her huge wings just a bit, to send the Mare's attention from her tail, to her large, Dragon fly, wings. She treasured them as a part of her, but didn't exactly get much use out of them.
"But I'm not exactly the most exciting thing around here....but It's polite to introduce yourself you know. For example, I'm Edel and I'm not quite sure how excited I am to meet someone this far out on the path." Edel kept a straight face, she rarely smiled, and when she did t was always more of a smirk.
