There were butterflies traipsing up her one crimson leg, little black insects with beautiful wings placed black on her red fur. Papillons. They had been there since her birth. She rather liked them. But they were the only wings she had. Akiilani longed for what she wasn't given. So many times she'd trotted proudly after her mother, admiring the raven-black feathers at her sides. So many times she'd played with Malta, who had feathers covered in stardust, or daydreamed with Astra, whose wings were coal black with long guard feathers. Her sisters were built to soar the skies, just like Carmine. And Lani? She was built to roam the earth, just like Dad, even though her heart longed to be in the clouds. Which is where her head was today. Her tail was dark, fading down to a magenta hue, braided and beaded. The Indians in the Village did it when she was a weanling. Now it flicked back and forth, batting against her sides as she idly plodded down an unseen trail. Life was so simple sometimes, she decided with a lazy smile.

It was quiet today, and for now Dominick enjoyed the silence of the world. He stood still as a statue in the center of a clearing. Every muscle in his body was tensed and bulging out. A soft breeze blew his long mane gently across his neck. He had recently left the two-leg village to have his mane and tail cleaned and re braided. He enjoyed making sure they were cleaned and kept tidy, although at the same time he didn't quiet obsess over it as some did. His icy eyes were closed for the moment so the white and faded red makeup looked thicker than it really was when they were open. His mind was a whirl, buzzing around like a swarm with millions of bees buzzing constantly between his ears. Dominick was so lost in thought that he didn't know what was going on around him, a kalona could have been sneaking up on him and he never would have known it until it was to late to do much of anything. He barely knew her ... how could he feel so deeply about her? He couldn't could he? Could anyone fall that quickly for another? The question just kept coming and he just kept trying to figure them out.

She moved easily, like a dancer might, each hoove leaving the ground and touching it again, but only briefly. As a bird squaked nearby, she tossed her head and danced to the side, breaking off the path and into the forest. Ah well.
She caught scent of him first, a rugged smell. It made the hair on the back of her neck rise and she paused, standing statuesque for a moment as she made out his black and pink figure, braided mane flowing wonderfully beautiful in the cool winter air.
She was...awestruck. What was such a beautiful stallion doing out here by himself. Surely he had a mate...
And if he didn't...
No. She snorted at herself. She didn't even know him. She didn't know his name. And he had no idea she was spying on him through the branches! Such a pitiful mare she was.
With a stamp of a hoof, she cantered into sight and made her way to him, nostrils flared as her heart gave a flip. He was even more handsome up close. "Heya, Pal. Daydreamin'?"

So lost was he that Dominick never heard her until she called out to him. His icy eyes snapped open and quickly focused on her. He blinked in surprise, mostly at him self for being so inattentive, then smiled just as kindly as he did for anybody. She was pretty, very pretty he had to admit but still his mind was far away on another mare whom had rattled him to the very core.
"I guess you could call it daydreaming," he had a somewhat deep voice with a thick Scottish accent.
He turned his hind end around quickly to face her completely and nodded his head in greeting "nice to meet you m'dear I'm Dominick, I hope this day finds you well" His icy eyes locked boldly on her mocha colored orbs. They were beautiful as the rest of her, sharp and bold. He wouldn't mind spending some time with her.
Instantly Inali popped right back into his head and he tried to shove her memory back down once more. He couldn't love her right? They were just friends weren't they? And really they weren't courting each other ... so why couldn't he enjoy the company of other mares too?

A grin rose on her lips as he turned towards her, his eyes wide before he offered her a smile. His eyes were beautiful, the color of ice and striking. Her tail flicked to one side before settling at her ankles once again.
So he -had- been daydreaming. "Knew it," she crowed joyfully. His accent made her ears p***k with interest. Was he not from around here, then? She'd only heard the accent once before, the voice of a little cart pony called Connell.
"I'm Akiilani. Lani by my friends. Okay, well, by everyone. I dunno anyone who calls me by my first name." Her words came out quickly, try as she might to slow them down. She scuffed a hoof against the hard earth, staring at him. "I do fancy your name. I'll call ya Dom, okay?"
Dom and Lani. Cute, she decided, then snorted once again. "You look...troubled? Wanna talk about it, pal?"

He smiled at her still and chuckled "yes, yes you did know it huh." He straightened himself up slightly and allowed his muscles to relax so that they flowed more gracefully under his satin-y coat. He flicked his long tail back and forth across his hind legs for a moment then let it hang once more behind him. He continued to watch her as he listened to her name, Akiilani ... an interesting name to match an interesting and beautiful mare.
He chuckled slightly "Well Akiilani, it is indeed a pleasure to meet you." He was still smiling that same charming, yet very kind smile "you're free to call me Dom if you please, it doesn't bother me in the least."
Even as she asked about his problems, which only made Inali pop once more into the forefront of his mind, he just chuckled and shook his head "No no Lani, I'm perfectly fine I assure you!"
He looked around them for a moment before focusing solely on her again "would you like to walk with me? I don't normally stand in one place for so long."

Lani's body trembled with energy as she stood there beside the handsome stallion. She, of course, wore a goofy grin on her face and she kept picking up her back feet and putting them down again, but she wanted to run and kick up her heels and be so happy! She was happy.
"Good. Dom it is then," she murmured softly, looking away for a moment before meeting his icy gaze once more. Even as he assured her that there was nothing on her mind, the little mare knew better. He looked so lost.
She opened her mouth to suggest something, perhaps a race, or SOMETHING to get them moving in the same direction and not stand here like two lumps on a log, when he spoke up again.
A walk. Yes! Yes, she'd love to walk with him. Her head bobbed up and she laughed. "I'd love to, Dom," she grinned, ears pricking forwards. "But...maybe you'd like a little run instead?"

Dom arched a silver brow over his makeup clad eyes, well a run did sound good, maybe it would get some of the tension out of his system and take his mind of her for a little while as well.
"I would love to go for a run with you Akii," he looked around trying to find a land mark to which they could bolt outfight for. Tossing his head slightly he threw his forelock out of his face with a Fabio style fluttering of hair. His eyes scanned the plains for a moment before spotting a large oak a good bit away and and pricked his ears in the direction. "First one to that oak wins?"
He looked back over at her waiting for the mare to answer.
His long tail flicked back and forth again, silky strands brushing gracefully across his rump and sides as he waited. The wind had stilled for the moment and so the world remained quiet and peaceful for the time being.
He closed his eyes for a moment letting the peaceful atmosphere sink into every pore of his body. Then he snapped them open again flexing his muscles in preparation for the run ahead.

He would love to run? Her heart gave a little clench, a grin plastered upon her face as she wiggled her bum in excitement. It took all her self-restraint to keep from dancing circles around the handsome swirled stallion. "Yes! Yes, of course!" she beamed, looking out to the large gnarled oak.
She pranced at his side, tossing her mane from side to side, though the bangs were always in her face. She lifted a hoof, then set it down, catching Dominick's icy blue gaze.
"Ready? Steady... Go!" she cried, biting at the bit to just bolt. But no, she would wait for him to show the first sign of movement! She would be polite... She grinned. Oh such fun!

Dominick softly pawed at the ground with one silver hoof. A slight grin played across his lips as he waited for her to start.
Ready ... steady .. go!
His muscles bunched as if he were gonna take off full speed, and he did leap forward a good distance but he quickly reined himself in while making it appear he was running full seed towards he oak. He wanted her to win their little race anyway. Flicking his tail he lifted it up so it waved behind him like a banner as he ran.
He chuckled to himself as they raced flying over the hard earth towards the gnarled oak before them.
The cold wind nipped at his nose, eyes, and ears making him slightly uncomfortable but he just kept on running
