Serenity: High noon and the winter light was at it's brightest as the sun glared across the ice frozen ground of the mountain, it was of course her play time and as such she had wandered down the side of the mountain in the place where Tewa would frequently go to collect her stacks of woods. Tewa knew these mountains well, she knew the paths to take to avoid danger as well as where to go to gather the right herbs and food. As such in the last week she'd taken with her Serenity to the safer areas letting the filly run wild and free, and giving her a sense of the area where they lived. She had felt it was best for the filly to know her land, since they were so very far up in the mountains, so very far away from the village of their people, and the filly like her was alone and would need to know safe lands as she grew.
This was how Serenity knew this one spot, she knew it was safe of the skinwalkers that frequented the mountain ranges, because her two legger had taught her this, that and she couldn't smell any of them there, in this foresty part of the mountain. Not to say there wasn't any other dangers but for the most she was as safe as she could expect to be, wolves didn't come around at high noon, most of the mountain beast hunted in a different location, Snakes were ab out the one thing she had to fear in this location, that and the odd bird or two that didn't like one in it's area.
Snakes didn't come out in the snow much though, so she was safe, and unafraid. Gently she rolled in the snow feeling it crunch under her weight. She both hated and loved the snow, but the sensations, aside from the cold, that snow gave her were for the most part plesent. After a bit of rolling she came to stand back up on all fours and with a puff of air through her nose she headed towards the nearby stream to get a drink, she was thirsty. That's when she saw him... He was the blackest Soquili she'd ever seen. She froze in her tracks as she looked at him, not thinking for a second he could see her. Who was he what was he doing here?

The snow had been quite cold indeed. But Nikolai had been born into the cold. And being born in the colder months of the year just seemed to give him a bit more resistance to the icy touch of the frozen water.
He didn't know why he had come to this place. Perhaps that small tinge of adventure and wander lust had led him here. But it just all seemed so...peaceful. So quiet. And serious change from the busy plains of the world. The young stallion could actually here himself think. Though there wasn't much he was really thinking about in the first place.
Occasionally the thought of his brothers would come. As well as the thought of his father. Nikolai didn't really think much of his mother, she'd never really played that big of a part in his life in the first place. Some would think that he would of held a grudge against her for that. But Niko had never held a grudge in his life. He knew she cared for him and his brothers, but the world just called to her more it seemed. She had her own life to live after all.
The stallions nose scrunched up lightly as the faint sound of trickling water came to his ears. Ah good, he was in the mood for something to drink. And luckily it sounded as if this little stream that he quickly came upon hadn't frozen over, or perhaps it had and was just melting at the months grew warmer. Either way.
Leaning his head down to drink, unkempt hair falling over gray eyes. His ear twitched causing the feather behind it to flutter lightly. But when he lifted his head to glance around there was something different. Something small was standing near by. For a brief moment he just watched the filly, letting his long white tail flick back and forth a few times before a small smile came to his lips. "Well hello there. I hadn't expected anyone to be out and about round here. You lost or somethin'?" Nikolai gave a small, brief glance around. Usually when there was a foal about an adult was nearby as well. But so far he hadn't seen any around that might be the parents of this one.

Serenity: *She might be naive, and young, but she had an eye for beautiful things, and to her this stranger was most definitely beautiful. Those dual colored hues flittered along his frame as she took him in for a moment more, still unnoticed. It was like in her mind she had the need to etch this beautiful strangers image and having never been taught that staring so boldly could be considered rude she did so very openly. It lasted, this moment for the briefest of time, and then he lifted his gaze and dual colored hues locked with those of the stranger.
Ears flicked forward as she listened to his voice, it was a kind voice, but one that seemed oddly to her to hold a sadness in it. Though she was much too young to actually understand such feelings she couldn't help but step forward one step, then two, it was as if she had the need to comfort him, but she remembered for a second that he was a stranger, and she stayed her ground moving no closer.
A few moments pasted until she finally responded to his words. Her voice soft, like a gentle breeze, but warm.* I live here. *It was a simple thing to say, but for one so young and alone to say such with out pause could only mean one thing, she spoke the truth. And should he try to catch scent of other soquili he would find none to be found.
She refrained from moving forward, closer to him, but felt no need to move away either. If the warm tone in her voice hadn't said as much her body language would speak were words failed, this little filly had no fear of the stranger of her mist. She knew from the look of him that he was not one of the skin walkers her Tewa had told her of, nor did he have that scent she'd caught off of some in her few times in the valley which made her nervous.
Finally she gave a smile to him, it was warm, inviting, and again that soft voice of hers spoke.* I am called Serenity.

To say the least, Nikolai was a bit surprised by the filly's boldness to come towards him. Most foals, or at least from his own experience of foal hood, would be a bit more cautious. But she seemed to have quite the lion's heart. Which was perhaps a good and bad trait.
Good in a sense that she didn't run away from others. Bad for the fact that she might approach the wrong kind of Soquili one day and end up hurt. It worried him a bit. Though what came next from the young filly's mouth made him worry just a little bit more.
Taking a few, casual steps towards her. Keeping his body language and movements calm and non threatening. Nikolai closed the distance between them, stopping a few feet away from her. Her duel colored eyes were a most striking feature and was quite a rare one to see indeed. But then again he should always expect the unexpected. All the Soquili of these lands had striking features in one shape or form. "All by yourself?" He lowered his head just a bit so that he was at a more eye level with her. "Do you not have any parents?" The thought made him frown internally, but the expression never made an appearance on his face.
The smile stuck. And as she spoke of her name it only grew. "That's a lovely name you've got, Serenity. My name is Nikolai."

Serenity: *She may seem the sort to have a lions heart but in truth she just didn't believe bad would happen to her from this one before her. So stepping forward as she had, while with out thought, wasn't something done from bravery but rather something done from absence of fear, for anyone knows in order to be brave you have to face a fear. That said she thought nothing of it when he moved towards her, and his body languaged matched her own expectations.
For some reason, unknown to her, the few times, the rare times that any have met her on her mountain they'd always approached her in a way as to not frighten her, she was beginning to think that was how it was suppose to be done. However she'd never met an adult that had gotten as close as he was with his face, it was unexpected and instincts almost had her backing up but this time she stood her ground in a brave manner, ears flickered at his next words and she instantly responded, her voice shifting from calm to something mixed between playful and happy.* No, Silly
*She grinned* I have Tewa and her family that I live with. *She of course didn't fill in who exactly Tewa and their family was but it was apparent that Serenity if nothing more, considered them to be family, and ignorantly thought everyone knew of them, so was amused that someone would think she was COMPLETELY alone. Though alone is what she was right now, as she had been let out to have her play time, her grazing time, by a very trusting human who like her soquili didn't think anything bad would happen to Serenity in the area serenity was now wandering. Such absence of fear for the two legger of course installed the same feeling in the young one, and she felt no fear in this location.
At his comment of parents she actually paused. She had heard that word a lot and though it had taken time to realize it, having thought for a long while that Tewa was her mother, she eventually discovered in her own way that while Tewa was like a mother to her, as much as any human could be, Tewa was not her mother, and she had no father.
It wasn't something she missed, how could one miss what they never knew? But at the same time she had been so frequently reminded that she had no parents by the wandering ones both in the valley and up here in her mountain that she realized having no parents made her an oddity of sorts, at least that's how she had started to feel about herself when ever the strange topic would come up. As such those beautiful, unique, eyes averted his gaze for the briefest of moments.
She didn't like that she was so different from others and couldn't do anything to change it, but she really didn't want this new beautiful one to see her in such a light. She wasn't sure why she didn't want him to see her and think sad thoughts but she just really didn't, however she was not a liar, it was not in her nature to be such, a nature she unknowingly inherited from both of her parents.* I have no parents.
*She said it as quickly as she could and then just as quickly changed the subject not wanting to give her new friend the time to linger on the negatives about her.* I think your name is lovely too Nikolai. *She grinned now, it was a slightly forced grin but there was still a warmth to it, he'd called her name lovely that helped a bit, though she wasn't sure why.*
