So it's no secret that before Robert Jordan died he sold the rights of The Wheel of Time series to a movie company. My question is, what does everyone think about that?

Although I can't wait to see what they do with it. There will be some Jordian reality that I shall have to suspend in order to enjoy it. For example the agelessness of Aes Sedai might not be as apparrant. Likely if they do a Movie instead of a mini series it would be hard to follow as Jordan put a lot of detail and plot into those moments that one might not find cinematic and would probably be cut. Hollywood has however surprised me often of late with actor choices even if they do change the age for the common viewer to understand (much to the chagrin of the faithful fans) And of course the sword moves which I have personally tried are near impossible in the sequences Jordan puts forth. (although I'm getting better) But accurate swordplay if commonly overlooked by directors. IE the Fencing Sith in Star Wars chapter 5 that didn't fence as much as use a broadsword technique.
Still with all that I would go to see it.
I'm sorry did I answer your question?

Agreed in almost every way. As for star wars, it is interesting how much different the old ones(4-6) were from the new as far as combat. The old ones were based on actual Japanese swordsmanship.

Personally I don't want them to make a movie. I saw what happened to Lord of the Rings, and I don't want that again. These books are way to intense to make into a movie, and they'll lose their magic if made into a movie. Everyone will run around yelling "I love WoT!" when they can't even read Green Eggs and Ham D:

True. If they do, however, I'll gladly volunteer as an Aiel extra, as long as I keep the costume. xd

Course I'm also one of those people that believe that if I enjoy something everyone should have a chance to enjoy it too. So I guess no harm done as long as I remember why I liked it in the first place.

Quite true. I've read and watched the Lord of the Rings. It may not have been that close, but they could have messed it up much more. Have you ever seen an acurate version of Sigurd the Volsung (Don't know how to spell it). The myth with Fafnir.

I like people being able to enjoy what I enjoy too, which is why I suggest the series to everyone. If you don't want to take the time to read the series, I don't believe you should get the copout version of a movie that lets you claim to be a fan when you really don't know anything about the series besides the content in the movie.

I know there is no way they can make an accurate movie. They would need about 5-6 hours of footage to do so, and no one would bother; they'd rather botch it than spend that kind of cash. I'll watch it avidly and count the screw-ups. I'm sure I'll love it but I'll still be kinda mad at the company. By the way the company who bought the rights is called Red Eagle. Sound familiar anyone?

Sadly, no. I will admit that I probably will enjoy it, but be upset with it at the same time. Its just like with The Lord of the Rings movies, I hate the movies for the mistakes, but some of the parts were great. I did like the change to Helm's Deep, even though my favorite character in the series died in the movie there...poor Haldir.

I was not happy after The Lord of the Rings movies came out because it tainted my meaning on when I said I liked Lord of the Rings. Some people might be inspired to read the books if a Wheel of Time movie does come out, but for the most part people will think "12 books? They're crazy."
These books weren't written to be cut and pasted in a feature film; they were written to be read; however, Robert Jordan obviously wanted the movies to come out, so hopefully I'll be able to enjoy them.
I just don't see how it is doable without chopping up the book and using it as makeshift confetti.

Ok hopefully, they will do a good job. I know from his blog RJ turned down 2 scripts from Red Eagle and one post script treatment. I'm hoping this means that they finally presented one he liked. I fear he wanted a movie he was willing to accept anything at that point. I do not speak of of RJ, but I would understand if that were the case.

True. I'm glad he considered it though. Tolkien, on the other hand, openly said he did not want his stories to become movies. Then again, he really only wrote them for himself. A friend saw them, and encouraged him to publish them in the first place. The Hobbit was only written as a fairy tale for his kids, and to incorperate his language into.

Really? I didn't know that... but then again, the only Lord of The Rings book I read was The Hobbit. I just felt no urge to read the rest because I had already seen the movies. That might happen to the people who watch the WoT movie (and movies, if they do the whole series). They might feel no need to read the book.
