Previously:
In the dead of night, wind whipped though the dense forest, tearing at the trees and making a terrible screeching noise. Trees fell, crushing anything unlucky enough to be below them. Tonight was a kalona night, and the demon creatures were out like there was no tomorrow, which for some soquili, was the fate they would succumb to. One mare, whose luck had not yet been determined, was pelting through the undergrowth, while a particularly vicious kalona jeered at her from the sky. Her hard breathing stung her lungs, as air roared in and out. Her horn shone in the moonlight, but against a kalona's claws would be hardly an asset. Her eyes rolling with terror, the unicorn stumbled, and fell.
The kalona swooped down for the kill, when a dark shape cut the air like a knife and barreled into the kalona's side. Wings raised, and teeth barred, a young wind soquili with strange wings tussled mid air with the kalona, and the two fell to the ground, making a large thump. The wind soquili tore frantically at the kalona's unprotected underbelly, while the unicorn, much recovered and now eager to help her friend, tore at the kalona's armored sides with her horn. The kalona made a few choking sounds in the back of its throat, and the wind soquili ceased ripping at its underbelly. He tugged the female unicorn's mane with his teeth, and finally she stopped as well. The kalona lay there, its life's blood staining the surrounding earth. Shakily, it stood, fangs barred. Then, realizing defeat, the foul creature took to the skies, blood raining down from its many open wounds. Left in the forest were the wind stallion and the unicorn mare...

Blood. Red, freshly spilled blood, droplets upon droplets of it being rained down by the departing foe only a few moments before. The dark red liquid contrasted strangely with the startling whiteness of the snow. Droplets upon droplets of it, littering the ground like crinsom petals left by the wild wind. The stench of it filled the air, creeping into the mare's nostrils as her caramel brown eyes stared at it as if in a trance. She was trembling slightly. Though the winged foe had departed, the terror still lingered in her heart. She couldn't seem to draw her eyes from the sight of the blood as the salty odor continued to play around with her senses. Her golden mane that shone in the moonlight was splattered with blood as well, making streaks of crinsom in the strands of gold. Her horn too sparkled with the fresh shed blood. Blood, the stench of death still hung in the air as the fierce wind ripped through the trees.
The attack, the chase, the rescue...Everything had gone soon fast that Alianna had little time to anticipate it all. Her heart still pounded as she took sharp breaths like those of a rasping ghost, trying to calm herself. It wasn't that she was still here paralyzed by the sight of the kalona. True, the winged beast had indeed been extremely frightening and that this experience wouldn't be one that she would likely repeat anytime in the future. It was the feeling that she had, the longing, almost joy of tearing at the beast with her horn. Tearing it to little pieces until it could no longer terror the world with its claws. The joy upon seeing it suffer, the joy upon watching blood spill from its veins. Acapello had to tear her off the kalona to make her let it go. Blood, she had spilled blood. Without any regret, but instead with a sense of joy. Joy, at seeing a fellow beast being torn, bleeding. Her senses reveled at the thought. That was disgusting, disgusting to wish death upon a fellow creature. It was ironic. That a unicorn were blessed with the power of healing, while here Alianna had just used her horn to spill blood. How ironic...
Blood. The droplets continued to swim before her eyes as the mare’s vision grew blurrier and blurrier. Soon enough, the tears had managed to create a small stream down her face. It was silly to cry for something like this, silly, wasn’t it? To be crying for hurting a beast that had been seeking her death, to be regretting spilling the foe’s blood. That was silly, wasn’t it? But why was she still crying? Why were those drops of salt water still coming out of her eyes? The flood of tears increased, the droplets of water mingled with the ones of blood, splattering the white ground. This was stupid, stupid. Why couldn’t the tears just stop…? Why? ((For the stat counter: Here's the link to my teepee. Thought it might be hard to find behind all those pages. ;; And none of my soquilis aside from Theia has had their stats updated even though they have more rps and months than her. ^^; So yeah, hope you will look into that if you aren't too busy? Thank you. <3 ))

Hot sticky air steamed in the frigid night air as Acapello breathed heavily in and out. His heart was racing, blood pumping, adrenaline rushing through every fiber of his being. The fury of the battle had not yet released its clutches on him, and he felt weighed down, as if something heavy was dragging him down into the earth below. Acapello closed his eyelids, relishing the sudden darkness, and concentrated on steadily breathing, in...out...in...out... He could think more clearly now, and struggled to get a grasp on the situation. Moving very methodically, he checked himself over for any wounds. His body felt numb, but he knew an unattended wound would cause much more trouble if not dealt with now. Nothing serious, but he had a good scratch accross his chest, and his wings were missing a few primary feathers, which were scattered across the blood soaked earth, fluttering in the wind.
Acapello opened his eyes, and nearly jumped out of his skin when he saw Alianna standing next to him. He had completly forgotten that she had been standing next to him. Still thinking very methodically, he scrutinized her, and saw nothing terrible but the blood spattered across her lovely golden hair and sienna brown coat. He wasn't sure if it belonged to her, but one sniff told him it was the rancid blood of that filthy kalona. Acapello barred his teeth in a silent snarl, and looked to the skies to be sure that the beast had left. He heard a faint huffing next to him, and noticed Alianna was crying.
He shuffled over to her, his hooves dragging heavily on the ground, and said in a rasping voice, "Are you hurt?" There was a troubled look in his eyes. There was nothing visible on the surface of Alianna's skin causing her pain that he could see, but perhapes the kalona had rammed into her hard enough that she had damage on the inside. He felt a few tears of his own run down his cheeks, washing the blood away from his face only slightly. He sighed once, and kept a nervous eye on the sky, and one eye on Alianna.

The mare gave a start at the voice. She had quite forgotten the stallion standing beside her. She turned her tear-stained face towards him slowly, tears still making their way out of her eyes and shook her head. She was fine, not hurt. Perfectly fine, she reassured herself. But why were these tears still falling from her face? Alianna shook her head, trying to clear away the droplets of water so she could see better. The clearing was empty aside from herself and Acapello as far as she was concerned. Yet her body was still tense in the off chance that the winged foe might return. It was scary to think that such beasts roamed the sky, so terrible, so vicious. She shivered slightly.
She turned her head towards the stallion. He had saved her life. So valiant, so brave, just like a knight from one of those fairytale stories. She should thank him, but the words seemed to be clogged in her throat. Terror still dwelled in her heart, sealing her mouth shut. Finally, after amount of hard determination, she finally managed to force a few words out, "Thank you, thank you for saving me." They sounded strangely quiet and empty in the still darkness.

Acapello was relieved that Alianna was not hurt anywhere. Then his brow furrowed, why was she crying? Was it perhapes in shock? Acapello was confused and worried, what could he do now? He asked in a quiet voice, "Why then, Alianna, do you cry?" He lay a wing gently on her back, trying to tell her that he would not leave her. Everything seemed to slow down, and it was just them, and the blood spattered clearing. Every now and then his eyes flitted nervously to the skies, still not sure that the kalona was gone for good. Kalona's didn't usually hunt together, but what if another was hunting in the area. Acapello was unsure that he could fight off another, he had never been trained in the art of battle.
His attention drew back to Alianna, and he bobbed his head humbley as she thanked him. His cheeks grew red, and he said, "Kalona's are a threat to us all, and no soquili or two legger deserves to die at their claws." He could feel her still trembling under his wing, the poor mare, that kalona must have scared her out of her skin. He made a soft hmming noise in the back of his throat, trying to distract her from the horror that had just occurred.

Alianna bit her lip. It would sound stupid, ironic if she was to voice her thoughts now. She would be spoiled, self-centered. There was no need to worry Acapello over nothing. Her shaking steadied somewhat as a soft humming noise washed over her. She couldn't explain how it had calmed her, it just did as if it was in her nature. Strange how it was expressed in words, perhaps the tranquility wasn't supposed to be expressed in words after all. It was just some unseen force washing over her, calming her, letting her mind drift slightly away from the horrible winged beast.
After a few moments when she felt she was calm enough to talk again, she shook the tears out of her eyes and forced on a small smile,"I'm okay, really. It was nothing." Well, that wasn't the truth, but she couldn't bear the thought of being laughed at by him for her stupid thoughts. In some way, she knew that if she expressed her thoughts, he wouldn't laugh...but still, she didn't want to sound spoiled, stupid.

Acapello felt her steady under his wing, the trembling ceased, and she seemed to have her thoughts in order. He knew something was bothering her, something that she did not want him to know. His brow furrowed, he wanted to help, but he couldn't. Not without knowing what the problem was. He sighed heavily, and pushed the worry away. Acapello couldn't help Alianna unless he was calm and rational himself. He felt the chill of the night air replaced by a warm wind, that ruffled his wing tips, promising a glorious day ahead. But dawn was not for many hours still.
Acapello raised an eyebrow as Alianna said she was okay, with the forced smile on her face. He didn't believe her, and he knew she didn't believe herself. At least she had stopped crying, that meant she was feeling better, right? Acapello said, with a slight humorous tone in his voice, "I don't believe you are fine." A smile of his own warmed his face.

Alianna laughed as she heard the slightly humorous tone in the stallion's voice. A real smile blossomed on her face in spite of her predicament,"Am I really that easy to read?" She paused. Well, there was no use hiding her thoughts since Acapello already seemed to know that she wasn't fine. But was it really any use letting him worry over such a silly matter? "This is going to sound really silly." She looked at the ground, rather embarrassed,"You remember the last time we met? You said that unicorn horns could be used for healing and that there's nothing better than to heal everybody in the world. I just find it really stupid that I, an unicorn, use my horn to attack another soquili, kalona or not. You know, for a moment there, I just had this feeling of bloodlust, that I wanted to rip the creature limb from limb. If you hadn't stopped me...I don't know what would have happened." That was it, it sounded stupid, just plain stupid and foolish. Stupid.

Acapello chuckled, and said, "No, you are not very easy to read at all. Unicorns are harder than other breeds." He grinned, suddenly the night seemed much better despite of what had happened earlier, though a cold chill filled the air still. He desperately wanted to help Alianna, but he couldn't without knowing what was wrong. Obviously she had just had a very traumatic experience, but was there something else? She caught his attention as she began to speak, and slowly it dawned on Acapello what was wrong. He looked at her with warmth in his eyes, and feeling much wiser than his age allowed, he began, "Alianna, horns are used for healing, but a creature like a kalona is far too gone from this world to be healed. You used the tools at hand to protect yourself. Its not like you purposfully went out to use your horn to butcher something. That could also apply to me, because my wings are meant only for flying, yet I used them to smack that Kalona upside its head." He smiled, "And everyone gets a deranged feeling in their head when they draw blood from another creature, yours was more potent than most, you were panicked, and scared, and didn't want to feel like that again." Hesitantly, he leaned over and gave Alianna a comforting nuzzle.

Alianna listened intently, her eyes unable to keep still as she absorbed his words. After a few moments she simply nodded, getting out probably the most she could from what he spoke. Comforted by the nuzzle she looked around, her heavy heart becoming much more light and fluffy again. "Sooo... now what?" She asked sheepishly, looking down at her hooves as she shuffled them neatly.
It was comforting having the stallion beside her. Acapello seemed to make her feel...safe? Protected? Cared for? She didn't exactly know what, but the feeling was good. His words warmed her and a smile crept back on her face,"Thank you." She muttered, a little embarrassed that that was all she could say.

Acapello raised a wing and gently rested it on Alianna's back. He said quietly, "How about we leave this decrepit old forest, hm?" He wanted to get Alianna away from the place where the attack had happened. Blood still pooled on the forest floor, and there was a chance it could attract other... predators. She seemed to be acting fine, but she had already had one scare. She didn't need another.
He looked at her, "I'm not going to leave you. Nothing is going to harm you while I'm still standing here." He smiled warmly. It felt good to be standing next to someone he trusted, and he was pretty sure Alianna felt the same.

Alianna’s body tensed as she felt something soft on her back until noticing it was just Acapello’s wing, she relaxed. Slowly she nodded. It would be good to get out of this place for awhile and get the sour piercing smell of blood off of her mind. The wet sticky mess on the forest floor still sickened her and she made sure to not look at it.
The mare smiled, ”I don’t know how to thank you. I probably wouldn’t be alive and breathing now if it wasn’t for you…” The deep sickening sensation of blood and death came back to her and she shook her mane, trying to it out of her mind. That was over, over and gone. She was safe now. Safe at Acapello’s side. Safe.
