I just want to see what you would have to say I'm gonna say

Steelers for AFC gotta go with my team and Troy Polamalu I mean this guy's amazing Anyone remember that interception against the Chargers at Heinz? And Jame's Harrison is a beast as well as the whole entire Steelers defensive unite.

Cowboys or Buc's for NFC
Demarcus Ware leader of sack's this year and Buc's always have a solid Defense.

...I'll rank the top four in each conference.

AFC
1. Steelers
2. Ravens
3. Titans

NFC
1. Buccaneers
2. Cowboys
3. Vikings

Lets look at this here. Look outside the box and with an open mind.

In the AFC it is undisputed that Pitt is the best. They rank first in almost every statistical category. The Ravens then the Titans are the closest behind them.

In the NFC, Only one team has ranked the about the same in each of the statistic categories. That is Philly. They are ranked 3 in the NFL behind the steelers and ravens. They are also ranked 3rd against the pass and 4 against the run. In the top 5 in sacks as well. So you cant really say anything about them being the best in the nfc. After them it would be Giants and either Vikings or Dallas.

If you have a better argument, I would be glad to listen

I'm looking forward to Ravens-Titans and Eagles-Giants next week. These should be two very solid defensive matchups.

That is the truth. I think that the top watched game will be the giant/eagles game. Both fan bases are among the top and they are probably the bitterest of rivals out of any team in the NFL. The two teams are so evenly matched up that this is a scary game that even I as a green blooded eagle fan from birth cannot even predict who will win this one. I am of course pulling for philly but it is hard. I can only bread down and look at this game from outside perspective and analyze the matchups.

Yeah, Im a Giants fan, and am really nervous about this game. I know we can beat the Eagles, but it will be tough. If both teams bring their A-game, then they can win. I just hope that the Giants' rushing attack can get going again, and I also hope that we can limit Westbrook (especially in the passing game).

The most mentioned players of the Steelers Defense are Harrison and Polamalu, but they also have other great players like Lamarr Woodley, hes a very quick player that can make pressure along with Harrison, The D-line is very heavy, starting with Casey Hampton, I mean, have you seen him? Brett Keisel and Aaron Smith should also be mentioned, I do miss Chris Hope as the FS, and hes now with another great defense, although I think the Ravens have a better defense.
What I like about Phily is that they never get tired of blitzing, I dont know a lot of them but it looks like a very strong Defense with strong LBs.
Im a bit surprised that the Giants Defense has not been mentioned a lot in the topic, Justin Tuck and Kiwanuka are probably the best DTs left in the playoffs, but then again thats subjective.

The Steelers also have a huge playmaker in Farrior. And I think that the Steelers have a slightly better defense than the Ravens.

And Tucks and Kiwanuka are DEs. But the Giants still have two very good DTs in Fred Robbing and Barry Cofield.

Another thing you have to think about is how young the entire Defense is. Every player but Dawkins on that defense has been picked in the draft after the 2000 season. The second oldest player on that defense is Sheldon Brown at the age of 29. That is a telling statistic. And all those strong and possibly great LB's are either in their third or second season's.

Well I think that the Eagles are a defensive tackle and inside linebacker away from being the most dominating defense in the NFC.

well if you look at the statistics, the only NFC team that is in front of Philly for defense is the Vikings. And that is only for rushing. the top 3 Defenses in the league were Pittsburgh, Baltimore and then Philadelphia. So that would make them the best defense in the NFC. Philly was number 4 against the rush, number 3 against the pass and number 3 overall. Number one in the NFC. But while I do kind of agree with your assessment of what they need, it is more they need the depth at their positions. Remember. The average years they defensive players have been in and starting are 2.75. The only three players who have started more than three years are Dawkins, Brown and Sheppard. And all the linebackers have been in the league for 3 years or less. There is only starting one linebacker who has been here for three years. The other two are second year players. That goes to show how well this defense has come along.

They have the best secondary in the NFC. Maybe even in the NFL. I'd most worry about Dawkins retiring in a few years.

His contract is up after this season is over. Plus he is 34. He may get offered a 1 or two year contract, but I don't know. As for the secondary, I don't agree. I think that they are number 2 or 3. But they are definitely up there no doubt.

Dawkins, Samuel, Brown, Sheppard, Mikell...I say they come pretty close.
