New England and Indianapolis have gone at it over the years, and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick took his own subtle swipe at the Colts on Tuesday.

Check out this word-for-word exchange today between Boston-area reporters and Belichick — and notice the topic that Belichick comes back and hits voluntarily.

Q: What do you make of Peyton Manning so far, whose numbers aren’t what they have been in the past, but certainly he has had to battle a lot of injuries between himself, his offensive line and his skill players this year?

BB: I think he is a great player. I think he has done it all and I think he continues to do it — makes the throws, runs the team, makes good decisions, sees things well and gets the ball to his playmakers. So, I see the same player there — a real good one.

Q: This will be the fifth time you have played these guys about this time in November. Do you like having this game where it is in the season?

BB: Whenever they schedule them, we play them. I don’t really worry about it. Whenever they show up on the schedule then we try to get ready and play them. Honestly, I don’t even think about it. Let me just get back to [Peyton] Manning for a second. If I am not mistaken he hasn’t shown up on the injury report all year but maybe one day at the beginning of the season. I am not really sure what injuries you are taking about but he hasn’t been listed on the injury report all year.

Interesting points on Belichick’s part, especially considering that ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer suggested on air Tuesday that something might be wrong with Manning’s arm or hand, that the ball was not coming out the way it normally does. Replays of Monday night’s game backed up what Dilfer was saying. Now Belichick is raising the issue. And it bears watching.

Nobody can say for sure if he'll return to his old self. I hope he will be on his A game when he takes on the Pats. It wouldn't fun beating him with the way he's playing right now.

Hasn't Brady been injured all his career? Lol. Just something to point out. Manning is injured but not on the report, Brady isn't but he's on. Awesome.

Peyton Manning hasn't been his usual self, because of injury. Not just his own knee injury that limited him in the offseason, but also the players around him. His offensive line is a bit banged up, including Jeff Saturday. Addai is out, and not performing like his usual self. Clark wasn't 100% at the start of the season. Also, the Colts have injuries on the defensive side of the ball (Bob Sanders), which gives the offense less time to work and get the ball in good field positions.

...This matchup is a primetime game, and should still be a good one. At the beginning of the season, I was really excited to see this game on the schedule. A healthy Brady against a healthy Manning. Manning is in there yet not like his usual self, Brady is done for the season, and both teams have injuries. Tom Brady, Bob Sanders, Joseph Addai, Rodney Harrison, Laurence Maroney, Benjamin Watson, LaMont Jordan, Sammy Morris, and more. Injuries litter this game. I think that the game will be defensive-oriented, and I give a slight edge to the Colts because they're at home.

The complications with Manning's knee injuries are basically killing this year for him, so I'm not gonna say that he sucks now or whatever. Peyton is Peyton, expect to see him back 100% next season kicking a**, throwing 40 TD's.

What do you mean? Did you see the game last night? He played great, and just like his old self. He managed the game well. Two touchdowns, 260 yards, no turnovers. Classic Peyton Manning right there.

This might be the tide turning for the Colts this season.

No...I want to see Tony Dungy do well in his final couple of seasons in Indy. Anyways, I lost by a point or two this week in fantasy, so I'm not happy at all.

...But Bob Sanders and Addai returning for the Colts was a huge part of their win on Sunday night.

Patriots had a pretty chance of winning, but they messed up.

1st down on 4th and 1, but Timeout called right before the snap.
Thomas's penatly (I think it was his), the caused it to be 3rd and long (I think)
Cassel overthrowing Moss at the Colts 20, as time was running out and he could have made a TD, or caught it and stepped Out of Bounds for a Last Second Game winning Feild Goal.

Gaffney dropping a TD pass.

Yeah, the Patriots had their chances of winning that game. Some rare bad coaching by Bellichick, and some missed plays by New England players. But I'm impressed about how the Colts remained poised throughout the entire game.
